Chapter 5

Isabella’s P.O.V

“It’s good to see you're okay.” He said with a warm smile at me and I did the same in order not to appear off and odd.

"Thank you for saving me back there.” I immediately appreciated him while my eyes hungrily scanned the table that was laden heavily with different delicacies even though it was only I and him available. My stomach rumbled hungrily as I salivated over the succulent food before us.

“Nothing to be overly grateful for. I'm glad you're okay though. You only need more rest and you should be okay after that.” He said and I nodded in agreement. He was right, I needed to cool down after the ordeal I had gone through.

“Why don’t we start eating, I can tell that you're very hungry.” He said with a chuckle, making me blush slightly and wondering how he could possibly tell what I wanted.

“Sure.” I answered before digging right into my food, I didn’t care if it was poisoned because after what had happened to me, I had absolutely nothing left to live for. I knew It was foolish to trust again but this man, this stranger was giving me no reason to be weary of him.

I took a bit of everything and piled up everything on my plate. I tasted everything and perhaps it was because of my hunger because everything tasted so good.

I learned back in my chair and let out a tired sigh. I stared back at the man who was still gently eating. One look at his composed figure and perfect posture and I felt ashamed of myself wishing the ground just opened and swallowed me.

“So tell me…” he said, gaining my attention as he pushed his food aside, an indication that he was done.

“Tell you what?” I inquired with my brows scrunched up.

“Who are you?” He asked in his calm and cool demeanour.

I slowly reached for the needle and clutched it tighter, hoping he wouldn’t try anything crazy. “I’m some lady you had found in danger and saved, you could have just left me right there and we wouldn't have had any issues explaining who I am.” I replied at the same time taking a sip of water with my eyes staring right at him.

“It’s only normal that I help you, but it’s curtsy to introduce yourself.” A smirk formed on his lips as he stared at me with more interest. I felt irritated by his demeanour even though he seemed cool and not much of a threat. I couldn’t help but just hate the existence of men because they tend to ruin everything they get their hands on.

“I’m a lone wolf.” I replied, folding my hands on my chest .

“If you’re not okay with that I can as well leave.” I said sternly.

“Sounds like I'm a threat to you even though I mean no harm to you.” A light chuckle escaped his lips as he lightly dabbed his lips and placed the serviette on the table.

“You've got an attitude huh? Let's see how far this attitude of yours will take you." He said, making my insides shake in fear but I dared not show it on the outside.

I won't give him any reason to look down on me so I maintained my composure. “I do not wish to answer your question.” I said sternly.

“That’s fine.” He said with a nod, his eyes were still fixated on me as if he was trying to read me, making me feel uncomfortable.

“It’s rude to stare at someone for too long, you know” I blurted out.

“I’m curious about something else.” He leaned forward with his hands clasped together and his eyes keen with interest.

“What’s that?” I questioned with furrowed brows while reaching out for the cup of juice sitting right in front of me.

“That scar on your neck.” He replied simply, his gaze now shifted to my neck.

I instinctively used my hand to cover it, I had forgotten that I still had my mating mark exposed and because of the nature of the dress, the mark was left bare. “ It's Just a ... .scar.” I told him shifting my gaze to the table trying hard not to think about the way Logan had hurt and betrayed me.

“It’s a scar that will constantly be a reminder to keep away from things that don't belong to me.” I smiled sadly.

“Care to share with me what you mean?” He seemed even more curious but I didn’t see the need to keep up with the conversation and wanted to be alone.

“None of your business.” I snapped at him losing control of myself, he didn’t seem fazed by my reaction and smiled warmly at me.

“I’m sorry for bombarding you with so many questions, it just seemed familiar.” He apologised, making me calm down regretting why I was overreacting when he hadn’t even done anything to hurt me.

Is he usually this calm and kind or was he just leading me into a rabbit hole? Was there more to this man's kindness than meets the eye? My head swam with questions.

“I…it’s fine.” I stuttered. “I apologise for my behaviour.” I stood up from the chair and stared back at him.

“We’re not done here, I’m being nice by bringing you to my home only for you to claim to be a rogue.” He said standing up from where he sat, my instincts heightened as I watched him walk towards me intimidatingly.

“What do you mean? I am not a rogue.” I said in an effort to reassure him.

“I do understand that Rogues are rascals but you? You were wearing a wedding dress when I found you… tell me what happened.” He demanded with his smile slowly fading away as his eyes darkened. I could feel the suffocating aura in the room slowly leaving me breathless.

“How can I let someone like you remain in my pack knowing you could pose a threat by not knowing your identity?”

“You can kick me out if you don’t believe me.” I snapped at him while contemplating if it was the right time to take out the needle I have hidden in my underwear to stab him.

Sweat slowly dripped down from my face as I was slowly becoming nervous. My hands started trembling with fear, I turned around nervously and was about to leave when I heard his heavy footsteps rush towards me.

As fast as I could, I wheeled around and quickly brought out the feeble needle I had chosen. I was ready to strike him, his jugular would be a perfect target but before I could even extend it towards him, he grabbed my hands with a superhuman strength that was alarming even for werewolves.

He effortlessly pinned my hands above my head while he leaned forward with blood red eyes and bare fangs. My heart jumped to my throat and my life flashed before my eyes as the man leaned forward...
