Chapter 22

Alpha Cage's P.O.V

"Good evening Alpha, one of the Black Pearl Pack members are awake. The doctor said I should inform you so you can see and speak to him." One of the guards I stationed in the room with the strangers informed me.

I quickly got into my car and drove to the hospital. Stone pack is very civilized and has more modern infrastructures than most packs.

I am the Alpha of Stone pack, one of the most peaceful packs in the land since time immemorial. Our reputation span across the cities and towns and nobody tries to go to war with us. Some have tried, but they got defeated even before they could come close to our grounds.

We have allies everywhere, and this is majorly because of the Khan family. Their family has an history of a child in each generation being born with extraordinary wisdom. Our pack is like a tourist attraction because of them as people of different packs and languages come from all around the world to seek solutions to their problems and mysteries.

All these and more are what made our pack a very loving community, so imagine my surprise when I got an SOS from a random number on my phone. I quickly phoned my Gamma, who got in contact with the warriors at the borders and instructed them to do a perimeter sweep.

They then reported that a loud bang was heard from the southern direction of the pack lands.Gamma Ariel sent 12 of our best men to the coordinates provided, and they returned with three men and a lady, all of whom looked like they were in their early twenties.

Two of the men and the lady were fatally injured, and had to be rushed to the pack hospital to get immediate treatment. The third man wasn't too injured so he regained consciousness few hours later, after which he explained their quest and the fact that their destination was indeed Stone Pack, but he was not able to provide concrete information on why they came here.

He mentioned that their alpha and beta were among the unconscious, and I really hope it's the alpha who gained consciousness. I can't wait to meet him and find out their reason for coming this far. Black Pearl pack is not exactly a next-door neighbour.

I went into the male ward where have been since they were brought in two days ago, and saw one of the men awake and seated on the bed, his piercing blue eyes regard me from head to toe. "Who are you? and where are we?" He asked, his strong commanding aura very evident despite his voice sounding really groggy from not speaking for days.

"This is an hospital" I replied him smartly, and saw him roll his eyes in response. "Hello, I'm Alpha Cage-"

"Of the stone pack?" He completed, in a questioning tone, l nodded.

"So, are you the Alpha?" He looked confused by my question, then attempted what looked like a smile and replied, "The Beta actually, my name is Maxwell."

"Oh, then it's the other man?" The man I pointed at looked ordinary though, there was nothing oozing royalty from him, and when he shook his head in the negative, i thought we had been played.

"One of you whom we rescued together told us there's an alpha and beta travelling with them, and now you're saying he's wrong?" I growled at him, my wolf felt disrespected. People bowed before us, and feared us despite our loving reputation, so who are these people to think they can lie to us.

He looked amused, "The lady, she's the Alpha, I'm the beta's son, and any other person you saw with us were pack warriors." I felt stupid for not adding that the alpha might be female to my list of possible outcomes.

Thankfully, Doctor Alvarez chose that moment to step in, he's one of our oldest doctors in practice. He bowed to me, and I slightly tipped my chin in recognition. He then faced the man asking him if he felt okay and all that. He nodded, his face twisting in pain despite being hooked up to all those tubes and the doctor continued with other minor checks.

"Um, I have good news" the Doctor spoke, with a smile on his face.

"Well, then spill it" Maxwell snapped at the doctor, who didn't seem to mind the disrespect.

"The lady is awake" On hearing the news, Maxwell attempted to get off the bed.

Keyword - Attempt, because he cried out in pain, the doctor rushing to his side to aid him, while calling for a nurse to bring over a wheelchair simultaneously.

When we entered the lady's room, the bed was empty. A little rustled, but empty still. "Where is she?" Maxwell asked.

"Perhaps in the bath, but she shouldn't be out of bed regardless, the wounds are not completely healed and could be easily triggered or infected. What is the lady's name?" He enunciated, directing the question at Maxwell.

"Laura", he responded nervously. "Please try to find her, she has to be somewhere nearby if she is as injured as you mentioned."

"She was waking up, when I came to your room. She wasn't even fully conscious then." Doctor Alvarez stated matter-of-factly.

"Nothing must happen to her, not even a scratch or you are sooo dead" Maxwell snapped at him in response

"I will not stand here and watch you disrespect and speak to him that way. He's a very respected doctor and elder in this pack. We will not tolerate any insults after nursing you back to health." I declared, my voice hung in the air like a challenge.

"Who's insulting?" A feminine voice asked from the hospital corridors, and seconds later, the speaker emerged, deep brown inquisitive eyes and long hair cascading all the way to her waist. She's wearing a blue hospital gown and I don't need a genius to tell me she is Laura.

"Um, Hi", she chuckled nervously, looking confused, and maintaining eye contact with me like I was the solution to her confusion.

"Laura" Maxwell said softly, his voice cracking with emotion and she broke eye contact with me, hugging him tightly, and muttering "He's alive" under her breaths repeatedly, only withdrawing when he whimpered in pain. "We thought you were missing", he added.

"I'm okay, perfectly fine. I took a short walk" She pulled her cheeks and twirled in front of him. His eyes crinkled in laughter.

Doctor Alvarez was majorly concerned about one thing though. "You should be in bed. You woke up few minutes ago and although werewolves have fast healing, this is still more advanced."

She perched on her bed, and smiled, "I've been dead before, I can't die anymore."

I stared at Doctor Alvarez till he got the memo, "In all my years of working, this is tantamount to a miracle. I'll leave you all to discuss, but I'll send in a nurse in few minutes to do a proper total check-up on you." He bowed to me, then left the room. I noticed Laura's eyes widen in realization of me being the alpha.

The atmosphere changed immediately the doctor stepped out. It was time to say the important things, I wanted to ask what exactly happened to them, but Laura beat me to it.

"How did you find us?" She questioned, genuinely curious.

"It wasn't that hard, you sent out an SOS..." I then explained all that happened leading up to that very point. "Now, what is your purpose in our pack?"
