Chapter 20

Laura's P.O.V

It's been total 24 hours of bliss, as I haven't come across Xavier, and have heard no news of Alex since he sent those wretched flowers of his yesterday morning.

So yeah, blissful morning and I hope I didn't just jinx it. I thought back to all that has been happening since my parents died and the actions of the elders yesterday at the meeting. I can't believe this was what my parents had to go through as Alpha and Luna dealing with these corrupt elders in council.

I miss my parents so much. I sat at the edge of the bed, my head in my palms, recalling those sweet memories I had with them.

A knock on the door took me out of my reverie, I rubbed my face, moisture coating my fingers, and I wiped it off, I didn't even realize I was crying.

The knock sounded again, and I quickly looked in the mirror trying to be sure I look as normal as possible. I opened the door, to see Max's right hand raised up, about to continue knocking.

"Heyyyy" I greeted him shyly.

"Morning Laura," he replied, beaming brightly at me. "Do you mind?" He motioned to the door, I didn't even realize I was tightly squeezed between him and the door. I was too focused on his chiseled jaws.

I shook my head to get rid of the impending thoughts. "No, I don't. Please come in, I'm sorry I kept you waiting."

He just smiled and stepped into my room. It was my space, mum and dad let me decorate it however I deemed fit. I wonder what he thought of it, trying to decode the look on his face, he looked somewhat pleased though. I tried to see it through his eyes though.

My room wasn't much, It's just cozy and comfortable, there's a queen-sized bed with a sturdy headboard and a simple bed frame. Three other doors aside the one we came in through, which led to the closet, bathroom, and the balcony. Yes, I have my own personal balcony, I sometimes sit there to stare at the stars or rest on the railings and think.

A nightstand on the right side of the bed for holding lamps, books I'm currently reading, and personal items. My walls were painted beige colour with simple, patterned bedding and curtains also the same colour shade. My phone charger was on a small tray for jewelry and keys.

That's about all there was to my room, it wasn't much of a big deal like I said. "What do you think?" I asked looking to him for approval.

"It's very nice, suits you." He took a general look at the room again and nodded. "So, are you packed and ready for the trip?" He asked.

"Yes, I am, fully packed and ready to leave." I gestured to the suitcases on the bed. "Is every other person ready?"

He advanced towards the bed, and carried both suitcases, 'what the hell are in these boxes that are so heavy?' he muttered lowly, making me laugh out loud.

"What's so funny? He asked, and that was when I realized he wasn't aware I heard him.

I waved him off dismissively, "Just head downstairs and ensure everyone is packed and ready to go, I'll be down in a jiffy, I just need to touch up my face."

He left, and I joined them downstairs minutes later. The men Maxwell selected were by the cars and I carefully scrutinized them, giving them a once over as a final observation.

The council of elders were also present to send us off, alongside Sonia and Alex.

"Alright, since we're all present and ready, Get into the cars" I ordered, the men started getting into the cars, and I heard the last of them whisper to the one before him, "Imagine this little girl ordering us as she likes."

I paused in my discussion with Elder Magnus, and turned to their direction about to kick them both. Then I heard the other person reply, "Regardless, she's the Alpha and we should respect her." Okay, he's the wise one.

"Hey, you" I beckoned at him, they all turned to me. "Imagine this little girl ordering us as she likes, Ring a bell?" He paused, startled, but he quickly composed himself, acting oblivious like he had no idea what I was talking about. "That was what you said just now, No?"

He looked shocked, then probably realized there was no way out of it, he fell to his knees, apologizing profusely and groveling on the ground.

"What should we do to him alpha?" One of the guards guiding the packhouse asked, Two others went to lift him, awaiting my response.

"Let him go, we'll meet again." They let him drop to the ground like a sack of potatoes. "Alright elders, we leave the pack in your hands, we'll contact you when we get to Stone Pack." They all bowed and waved us goodbye.

Now that the warriors were reduced to five, two of them were in a car behind us, one was in the same car with us, and the other two were in the car in front of us. So we went with three cars in total.

The guard that went with us drove, while Max and I were seated at the back, devising plans to get the spectra. I want us to get the spectra quickly, so I can return to proving Elder Magnus, Sonia and others as being interested in the downfall of the pack.

When we turned a sharp bend, we realized the car behind us took longer than usual to show up, but none of us put it to mind. Suddenly, the car stopped moving, right there in the middle of the highway.

Max dialed the numbers of the guards in the car, but none of them picked up. "That's strange", he commented, "They know how high profile this journey is so, they can't possibly be lazing around, can they?" He added, asking.

"Well, I hope not, it's their lives and ours on the line if they are." I replied.

Maxwell checked GPS on his phone and it gave our location as very close to the Stone Pack border. "Since we're very close to the Stone pack and they've been informed of our arrival, I believe we're on safe lands."

He then called one of the guards in the car in front to stop driving, as they needed to check what was wrong with the car behind. Quickly, we all alighted and 2 of the warriors formed a perimeter around Maxwell and I as we approached the car with caution. When we were few metres away, the third warrior moved closer to the car, opened the door handle and the hands of the driver dropped out.

Unsure if he's dead or just unconscious, we were on high alerts and very wary of our surroundings. We could get attacked from anywhere, at anytime. I quickly sent an SOS to Alpha Cage of Stone pack. Now that we were in their territory and they knew we were coming, it's not considered offensive to do that.

As we advanced towards the body in the car, I head a very loud and deafeaning band, and felt my body thrown very far away like I was weightless. I tried to open my mouth to scream for help, but I couldn't. My eyelids drooped slowly and everything began blurring until they shut completely.
