Elise sucked in a deep breath before she accepted the call. "Yes, Chief?"
"Elise, why haven't you updated me on the status of the investigation yet?" She heard a harsh voice from the other end and felt her blood boil in fury.
'It had barely been a few minutes since I arrived and this man was dying to get reports from me. How annoying!' She cursed under her breath and looked at her shoe, kicking away the broken piece of brick as though it was her Chief's head she was kicking.
"Chief, we are yet to investigate the matter completely. We have only begun." She tried but was interrupted by the shithead of a man.
"Elise, I do not want any excuses. Do your job well." He ordered and Elise felt her hand itching to give him a good beating. He was the only irritating person in her life, besides Kai of course. But she could tolerate Kai, not her Chief. Never.
"Yes, Chief." Elise suppressed her anger and looked at Kai who was already staring at her in... concern.
Elise frowned when she noticed the man's deep gaze on her. Since a few days, she had noticed his odd behavior. He was not himself at times and she had no idea what had happened to him. 'Maybe he is having mood swings.' She thought, giving a deaf ear to all that her Chief was saying. 'Should I buy him some ice cream to bring him back to normal?' She wondered.
Kai was known among her team mates as having a sweet tooth. He could go hours without having proper food. But couldn't stay away from any sweet stuff, especially ice creams. The man had a knack for having ice creams at least ten times a week and Elise shook her head as she imagined the sugar rush.
"Keep me updated, Elise. I do not like to be uninformed when it comes to work matters."
Elise pressed her forehead. 'I will throw a party if someone throws a bomb at my Chief.' She thought as she agreed to all that the man was saying before she ended the call.
"Was it the devil again?" Kai queried as he approached her when he noticed her ending the call.
"Who else can it be?" Elise sighed and kicked her leg against the debris in frustration again.
"What does he want?"
"What else? He is being a pain in the ass as usual."
"Why can't he lead the investigation if he is so worried?" Kai grumbled, his lips twitching in disgust.
"If only he had guts to lead an investigation." Elise sassed. "Do you think he is willing to take the risk when he knows that powerful people are involved in this matter? He just wants someone to push to the front if things were to go wrong, which will not be happening if he were to take the lead."
"Officer Winslow, Officer Anderson, may I have a word with you two?" Daniel hesitated as he looked at the two cautiously. "I'm sorry if I am disturbing you."
"Not at all, Office Blake. Please." Elise shook her head and smiled at him lightly. "Is something the matter?"
"Yes, Officer Winslow. Here is the primary investigation we did before we came here. You might be interested in it." Daniel handed the file to Elise and waited for her to go through it.
"We have narrowed down the list of people who might be our primary suspects."
"Anyone worthy of our attention?"
"Yes." Daniel dithered for a moment. "Craig Tyrell was having a tensed relationship with the Sepehr twins for the past few months."
"Do you think the Sepehr twins might have bombed the warehouse?" Elise's brows creased with worry. If they were involved in this matter, then the issue was more complicated than it previously was. Sepehr twins were a forced to be reckoned with and nobody in the country, or even the world was powerful enough to cross them.
"We are under assumptions. We do not have any evidence to support us." Daniel explained his problem and looked at Kai in anguish.
"I see. Is there anyone else we should watch out for?" Elise studied the file thoroughly before she handed it to Kai.
"Yes, there is another man who had become enemies with Craig recently. Rowen Andrews. Craig and Rowen were competing for a tender. Big profits and all. In the end, Craig won."
Rowen and Craig's matter was not hidden to Elise. The entire world had watched the news when Craig had won the tender and the stand off between the two men had ended with Rowen declaring his enmity with Craig blatantly, in front of everyone. He did not even give a damn that his words and actions were being recorded by the media and broadcasted to the world.
It was not hidden from her why Rowen had shown his fury openly. Craig had bribed the person in-charge of the tender and even if Rowen was a well-deserving candidate, he had lost to the cheater.
Elise pursed her lips and analyzed all the possibilities. Although Rowen seemed like someone who sought vengeance, the current attack did not seem to be his work. It looked more like from someone who did not give a damn about the world, more like the ...Sepehr twins.
"Have you tested the time bombs? Do you know where they came from?" Elise folded her hands, her right fingers tapping her left elbow as she thought about the matter.
"We are looking into it. However, it's difficult to deduce, considering that Craig's own company was into manufacturing weapons and this particular time bomb here," Daniel held out his hand and showed them a piece of time bomb, "is similar to the bombs his people made. There is a high possibility that this bomb was made in his warehouse."
"This is bad." Elise relented. "I'm sure with all that is happening, we will not be finding any answers soon. Craig is dead for sure, my gut feeling says it."
"I think so too. Otherwise, he should have been here by now." Daniel agreed. "His father is one of the people who exploded into smithereens here. He should've been here at least for him."
"Let me make a call, Officer Blake. I'll get back to you in a minute." Elise excused herself away from Kai and Daniel and searched for the one person who could provide her with the leads.
"Officer Elise, to what do I owe this pleasure of you calling me?" She heard the woman on the other side chirp.
"Rosy, I have something to ask of you."
"Please speak, Officer. I will give my reply once I find out what you want of me."
"Can you find out where Craig Tyrell is at this moment or was sometime ago?"
"Is it due to the explosion?" Rosy paused for a moment before she questioned her back.
"Yes. I need to locate him to find out who is behind this catastrophe."
"I'll not guarantee the result. But I'll try my best, Officer Elise. We are dealing with influential people and I might lose my life if they catch me." Rosy stated honestly.
"It's fine, Rosy. Just do your best."
"I'll get back to you in fifteen."
"I'll wait for your text."
Elise returned to the two men who were deep in discussion. "I apologize for that. I was seeking help from a trusted aid.""No problem, Officer. We were discussing what to do next." Daniel replied with a smile."This is going to be a long night," Kai mumbled, running a hand through his messy hair."It sure will be, considering the number of people who died here." Daniel agreed and closed the file in his hands."Sir," One of the policemen jogged towards them and interrupted their conversation. "I'm sorry for interrupting. But Officer Derek is looking for you. You are to handle the reporters.""Shit!" Daniel cursed under his breath and gnashed his teeth in annoyance. "Aren't we in a mess already? Why do we have to handle the reporters when we are yet to crack the case?" He grumbled, and Elise pitied the man for his state. It was one thing to handle the reporters when they had evidence with them and more or less knew who the culprit was. She warned and when she noticed that the threat had been registered by them, she stepped back again, allowing the two police officers to take over."Good job." Kia whispered the moment she was back to her place and Elise gave him a curt nod. Since the nuisance was gone, Daniel and Derek could handle the other reporters and Elise d
"We'd like to meet the owners of the club." Daniel and Derek flashed their IDs at the entrance of Black Opal as they waited for the bouncers to allow them inside.Elise and Kai stood behind them as they scrutinized the place. This time, they were more alert and careful as they waited behind the police officers. Although they were just assisting them in the investigation, it was still their duty to accompany them even if they'd be recognized by the people who worked in the club."May I know the reason?" One of the bouncers questioned and glanced behind him, signaling his companion to alert their Bosses."We're investigating a case and we have a few questions we wish to ask them," Derek replied as he looked inside the club from where he was. As expected of a club on a Friday night. The music was blasting off and the smell of smoke and booze filled the air. The crowd was unbearable and Elise felt sick just by looking at them."Follow me." The guard stated monotonously and Elise quirked
“Please take your seats.” Reuel pointed towards the two couches and everyone noticed that his eyes lingered more on Elise than anyone else. While the three men sat down, Elise stood still and watched the twins who were sitting like emperors on their throne-like chairs. She squinted her eyes when her eyes fell on Azael’s white sneakers. Unlike his twin who was dressed prim and proper in a suit, minus the jacket now, Azael instead was dressed casually. “Please take your seat as well, Elise.” Reuel gestured towards one of the chairs that was closer to them, forcing her to snap out of her thoughts. “No, thank you. I’m fine.” Elise smiled nonchalantly and moved her gaze away from the twins. Taking the sudden silence as their cue, the two police officers started their interrogation. “Mr. Azael, Mr. Reuel, Craig Tyrell was last seen in your club. Are we right?” Derek started. “It might be. After all, the club is open to the public.” Azael shrugged as though it was not uncommon for Crai
Other than Azael and Reuel, the three men jumped to their feet instantly. They were utterly spooked to find blood and immediately, their gaze turned to the twins.Oddly, the brothers were calm as they sat in their chairs. Their face was unfathomable and Elise couldn’t make out what was running in their minds. However, it didn’t matter to her. They may deny as much as they want. But eventually, their crimes would come to light one day. After all, karma was a bitch.“May I know whose blood this is?” Elise wasn’t as perturbed as her teammates. Instead, she continued to watch the twins as if she was not dealing with the two most dangerous men in the world but someone who she’d soon put behind bars.“That, Officer, is my blood.” Azael broke the tension in the air and Elise finally lost her composure.“Your blood?”“Yes. You see I was careless and injured my foot before you guys came.”“You got injured today?” Elise tone clearly depicted that she didn’t believe a word he said.“Yes.” Azael
"We understand. You may leave now." Reuel remained unfazed by Caleb's words and gestured with his wrist to leave.Although Caleb was surprised by the two men's reactions, he didn't dwell more upon it. "What do you think, Elise? Do you suspect the Sephyr twins?" Kai glanced at his friend who was staring outside the window as they drove back home. The silence was oddly unsettling, especially after the dreadful incident and the nightmarish meeting with the twins."I do. I definitely do. The Sephyr twins must be behind Craig's death.""Death?" Kai stepped on the brakes, forcing the car to come to a sudden stop and Elise jolted due to the sudden impact."Do you have a death wish, Kai? Spare me. I don't want to die yet." She glared at him as she looked behind to see if they had hindered anyone else on the road. Fortunately for them, the road was deserted and they were alone. Otherwise, horns would have brought out their functionality in the dead of the night, scaring all the sleeping creatures away."My bad, I apologize." Kai started driving again and this time, he was careful and alert. "Do you think Craig is dead?""I don't think, I'm damn sure about it," Elise stated with conviction.
Elise's eyes narrowed as she saw the two names at the bottom. Alarm bells went off in her mind and she pinched her thighs to clarify if she was dreaming.'This is not good. How did they find out?'
