Brielle’s POV
The kiss seemed to ignite a special kind of fire in my body. I closed my eyes fearing it was one of those really realistic dreams people had and that I would soon wake up from it. But I was soon snapped back to reality when I felt myself being lowered down. It’s real! It’s fucking real! I felt his hands tug at my panties from under my dress but my thoughts were too fuzzy to think about caring. My eyes tore open in shock when I noticed his large hand wrap around my neck; “Where are you guys?” Zane called out. Snapping both of us out of the moment. “How… what… how?” Lucien stuttered. He seemed confused by what had just happened. I was lost too because I didn't understand anything that was going on. “Zane, one moment!” Lucien ran towards his brother's voice while he dressed. I sat on the floor half-naked, lost in thought about what just went down. “I'm I this damaged?” I asked myself. At that moment, I had no control over my impulses or my emotions. I just fell into his lap like a sex freak. “Brielle! Are you coming or what?” Zane shouted out to me. I snapped out of my thought cycle and got dressed. “Where are we going?” I asked when I caught up with the brothers. “Our final destination, we are not that far from our home,” Zane responded. I turned to Lucien, to get some clearance from his expression. But, he turned away. “Let's go,” He muttered without even lifting his head. We walked in silence towards the Great Wall, as they called it. I knew of how safeguarded packs were but I had never seen a security force as tough as that. “Alpha Lucien,” A guard who seemed to be stationed at the top of a tall tree voiced. “Can you come down here?”Zane responded. And in an instant, a tall man stood in front of us. “Sirs!”He saluted. Zane responded with a nod but Lucien appeared to still be uncomfortable by what had happened earlier. “What happened here and where is the rest of the force?”Zane asked. I detected a strong stench of blood coming from all over the forest and it sent out a scary aura that immediately enveloped the entire region. “Savages from the North stormed our defenses. We were able to send them back but we took a heavy blow,” The soldier announced with his head bowed. “I'm sorry Alpha Lucien,” “Don't be sorry. You came out of it with your life and body parts intact. I'm proud,” Lucien commended the soldier whose face beamed up. “We can't allow these savages to raid us anytime they want, brother. They must be stopped!”Zane voiced angrily. “Agreed,” Lucien muttered with a thinking pose. He looked like he was lost in his thoughts. “No worries Sir, we have this area secured. You can go in with your guest,” The Soldier said. The brothers smiled at him as we walked away from the spot. “What's with that smell?” I scoffed as the horrifying stench became too much to handle. “Savages’ blood. Their cursed blood infects wherever they drop,” Zane responded. Prince Zane's kindness melted my heart. I hoped his brother was more like him but we can't get everything we wish for. “Open the gates!” Lucien commanded as we got to the gate with an eclipse symbol on it. The huge gates sprung open and the scenery I was met with amazed me. I felt different like I was in a whole new universe packed with beautiful buildings and neatly tiled roads. “It's beautiful,” I muttered without thinking. “If you think this is nice, wait till you see the estate,” Zane said to me with a smile. The inhabitants bowed as we walked past them. I had the respect of royalty back with Chase but I lived like a cage animal. Never allowed to go more than his reach. “Go in,” Lucien commanded. His thick masculine voice snapped me out of the fantasy I had created in my mind. “Where are we going?” I asked, looking around like a lost puppy. “Home,” I got in and within a minute we arrived at the biggest estate I have ever seen. The gates were made of gold and the walls were as high as the city's. “Is this the Alpha’s estate?” I asked Zane with my head stretched out the window to soak in the beauty of the mansion. We arrived and the mansion and there were already maids waiting for them outside. “All hail the Supreme Alpha!” They all chorused with head bowed. I stood lifeless admiring how organized and respectful they were. “Don't be so wowed, act natural,” Zane whispered in my ears. His voice was smooth and calming. I smiled at his remark and turned to Lucien who walked to the center of his workers. He cleared his throat before starting “Thank you all for holding on to the mansion till we arrived. I appreciate you all and I hope I live up to your expectations,” And at the end, they all clapped joyfully. I didn't need to be told how awesome an alpha he is to his people and his workers. “They love you,” Zane said to Lucien who walked towards us with a wide smile on his face. A smile that faded away as soon as he turned to me. “Well, I'm not the only one they love,” Lucien pointed at some ladies who were admiring Zane from behind a car. “Come on Lucien, you know I can't hide my glow. I am who I am,” Zane responded. “Are you okay?” He asked with hands holding onto mine. I couldn't help but develop a liking for him. He was caring, sweet, patient, and thoughtful. I smiled in response, I felt really safe with him but for some unexplainable reason, my mind wouldn't let go of Lucien. I felt obsessed with him and with what had just happened in the woods. “You are back,” A lady said. She looked beautiful with a nice shape. She walked like a queen towards us, taking one step carefully before taking the next. “Yeah, we are back,” Lucien responded. And weirdly, with a smile. My body tinged as jealousy began setting in. “I missed you,” She said and hugged him. The hug might have been short but to me, it felt like years. I looked at them as rage boiled within. I know I shouldn't have been feeling that for someone I had just met and knew close to nothing about but I couldn't bear it. To worsen my situation, the lady turned to me and asked, “Where did you pick up this stray?” I growled in anger as I stared viciously at her.Brielle’s POVShe matched my glare looking unfazed, Zane stepped in front of me quickly keeping us apart."Angelina watch your tone" Zane spoke up defending me."I was just asking a question, she looks... terrible" she insulted unbothered."You will speak to Brielle with respect. She's Lucien's mate." Zane urged i could see his muscles tense behind me and it took a lot for him not to speak rudely."That's impossible!" the woman shrieked, her eyes widening as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "The Moon Goddess only grants one mate to a person! There's no way!"I kept my face as calm as I could wondering what her relationship with Lucien was?It hurt to believe my second chance mate already had a new woman, I snapped out of my delusion reminding myself I didn't belong here in the first place. The lady whose name I didn't even know, was throwing a full-blown tantrum now. Her cheeks flushed red, and her hands clenched into fists. I watched her in silent amusement, a small part
Lucien's POV. The day had been long and exhausting, but it wasn't over yet. My body ached from the recent things I had going on, and with everything stressing me out, all I wanted was a moment of peace. Instead, I found myself dealing with more drama. I looked at the papers for the budget for the rest of the year and noted how many meetings I had to be present for. Things were difficult here. I paced the floor of my study, trying to calm my racing thoughts. I couldn't stop thinking about Brielle. I was angry, yes, but in a way, I could understand. I hadn’t been present enough, and it must have been sort of strange for them. That was a lie. I was too selfish to do that, to understand where she was coming from, but how could I say that? It was a cruel twist of fate for me, and I didn't know how to handle it. A leader who couldn’t lead his thoughts. Zane walked in, looking hesitant as he saw the look on my face. I must have looked irritated. “Lucien, we need to talk about someth
Third Person's POV Brielle sat alone in her quarters, staring blankly at the flickering flames in the fireplace. Her thoughts were nothing but confusion and heartache. Lucien's harsh words echoed in her mind, and his rejection was not something she had enjoyed. She couldn't understand how things had spiraled out of control so quickly. One moment, she was trying to find her place in the pack, and the next, she was caught between two men who meant a lot of things to her. Her feelings for Lucien were complex. As her mate, there was an undeniable bond between them, one that should have brought them closer. But Lucien's distance and cold exterior made it impossible for her to feel secure or loved. On the other hand, Zane had been a pillar of support. His kindness and understanding had created a deep friendship between them, and recently, those feelings had begun to shift into something more. She was torn between the bond she was supposed to honor and the growing affection she had for Zan
Brielle's POVI woke up in a cold sweat, my heart pounding as if I had run a few miles. The nightmare that I had was so vivid, it felt real. I could still feel the rush of wind as I fell off the cliff, the ground rushing up to meet me. It was the same feeling I had experienced when running away from Alpha Chase. The memory still haunted me, leaving me shaken. Why can’t I just have a bit of rest? Things had finally been going good for me, and now this! After that night, the nightmares didn't stop. They became more frequent and even more intense. Almost every night, I would wake up gasping for breath, my body trembling with fear. The panic attacks started soon after. I would find myself struggling to breathe, my mind racing with images of falling and dying. The fear and anxiety were overwhelming, and I didn't know how to cope. Zane noticed the change in me. He saw must have seen how anxious I looked, and the worry was always on my face. Maybe it was the way my hands shook when I th
Brielle; I couldn’t take it anymore. The nightmares were tearing me apart, and the flashbacks during the day left me constantly on edge. That night was the first time that my nightmares had featured Zane. Zane tried his best to be there for me, although I hadn’t told him anything save for the fact that I had nightmares, but I needed something more. Someone who understood my fear. That was why in spite of our complicated relationship, I found myself running to Lucien. Somehow, I felt he might understand better. I found Lucien in his study, buried in his work as usual. His eyes met mine, and I saw that he looked concerned for a split second. “Brielle, how may I help you?” He asked, standing up. I hesitated, feeling a bit stupid. “I need your help, Lucien. I’ve been having nightmares, and they’re getting worse. I don’t know what to do.” His expression softened a bit. “Of course, I’ll help you. Tell me everything.” I told him about the nightmares, the hallucinations, an
Brielle; The old woman made us to step out of the room for tea while she excused herself to go back into the room. Lucien and I drank the tea in silence and my mind was on how complicated the situation was. Lucien looked out of the window like there was something important waiting for him out there. “Alright, you may come back in now, so we can begin the ritual.” The priestess said, walking away. When we got back, the curtains had been drawn, and the room was dimly lit by candles, casting flickering shadows on the walls. The air was thick with the scent of herbs and incense, like she was burning more than what I could initially smell. I sat nervously, watching the priestess as she prepared the summoning ritual to bring forth the spirit that was making me fearful and restless. Lucien stood beside me, his expression tense. It was like neither of us knew what to expect. The priestess placed a bowl filled with strange powders and herbs in the center of the room and held a bowl wit
Brielle's POV. Lucien and I returned to our regular lives, acting as though nothing important had happened. It was easier said than done, especially with the fact that the secret mission was not something to be taken lightly, and I, for one, had decided to keep Zane in the dark about everything. "Where have you been?" Zane asked when we finally saw him later that evening. He looked worried. "Oh, just running some errands." I said, trying to sound casual. "You know how it is. I had to take a walk." Lucien was right behind me. "How are you?" Lucien asked, completely disregarding the question, just like he had the tendency to do on a normal day. Zane looked at us both with suspicion in his eyes, but he didn't press the matter further. "Alright. Just glad you're back." The thrill of our secret mission and the deception added a layer of excitement to our daily interactions, Lucien and I. Lucien and I would exchange glances whenever we saw each other, all while trying t
Brielle. Despite my better judgment, I found myself unable to resist the magnetic pull between Lucien and me. It was like an invisible force drawing me to him, even though I knew it was wrong. The tension between us had become unbearable, and I knew something had to give. One evening, I went to Lucien’s office to return a file. The door was slightly ajar, and I could see him inside, sitting at his desk with a bottle of whiskey in front of him. He looked lost in thought, and it was rare to see that, considering the fact that his face was always unusually stoic. I hesitated for a moment before knocking softly on the door. “Lucien?” I said, stepping inside. He looked up, his eyes meeting mine. There was something in his eyes, the way he looked at me, that made my heart skip a beat. “Brielle.” He said. “Come in.” I closed the door behind me and walked over to his desk, placing the file down. “I brought this back. It’s the report you asked for.” “Thank you.” He said, but h
Brielle’s POVI stood by the window, my heart heavy with sorrow. The height below blurred through my tears as I looked down, eager to jump but afraid. Everything I had known, everything I had hoped for, was gone. My home, my father, even the child I had dreamed of was dead. There was nothing left for me, I felt. Seeing Lucien burst into the room shocked me, but it was the anger in his eyes that truly surprised me.I stood there frozen, my heart beating fast and my thoughts racing. I saw his furious stare pierce through me.I was so lost in my sorrow that when his voice cut through the silence, I was shocked and almost tripped. “Brielle, what are you doing? Get down from there!” he yelled, his voice echoing in the room.I didn’t respond. What could I say to him? He wouldn’t even understand. There was no way he would possibly understand the depth of my loss and my pain. If he even cared. I turned back and stared out the window, feeling the air on my face. Lucien’s presence behind me
Lucien’s POVSeeing the dead body lying there, my mind raced. I pulled out my phone I hard pocketed earlier and dialed for an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived, they quickly loaded the body onto a stretcher. I decided to follow them to the hospital, needing to get some answers. At the hospital, I waited anxiously while the doctors examined the body. Eventually, they came out to speak to the person who had found the body.I was met by one of the doctors, who immediately recognized me. “Are you the one who found the body, Alpha?” he asked.“Yes, yes. I found it just laying there in the middle of the road. Do you know who he is, Doctor?” I asked, trying to piece together the mystery as I stood to meet him.The doctor nodded gravely. ”He’s a member of the royal families. Came into town three weeks back and had been missing since.” He explained. His words sank in sadly. A royal family member dead and abandoned on the street? This was really bad especially how we were beginning to do b
Lucien’s POVI woke up to the sound of Zane’s heavy footsteps walking into my room. As I opened my eyes, his angry presence stood over me on the bed.Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I looked up to see his face formed with rage.“What the hell did you do?” he spat, his voice trembling with anger he could clearly barely contain.I frowned, genuinely confused. “What are you talking about?” I questioned, trying to sit up. “Alpha Rio is in the hospital. And I know you had something to do with it.”I sat up, guiltily feeling the accusation hit me like a punch to the stomach. “I didn’t do anything to Rio,” I denied, trying to keep my voice calm.“Don’t lie to me!” Zane shouted painfully. I stared at him, remaining silent, my blank expression only seeming to anger him more though.“Did you do it?” he demanded once again. “Do what?” I replied, knowing exactly what he was referring to, but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of a straight answer.“Don’t play dumb, Lucien. I know you
Lucien’s POVWe sat in the wardroom waiting for the doctor’s report and the doctor. I had never felt suspense like I did on that day. My heart ponded in my chest as I stared at Zane who paced back and forth the room in frustration.“Where is the damn doctor?!” he growled angrily.“I am here,” the doctor announced as he pushed open the door with a file in his arm. And behind him was two other doctors who looked like they had just seen a ghost. I know from experience that when doctors form a pack to deliver a news to someone, especially my family, it was never something pleasant.“Prince Zane, Lady Brielle…”“Let me cut you off there Doctor,” Brielle said with groans of pain as she sat up to look at them in the eyes. “I already know about your judicial crap, so deliver the bad news,”I sighed heavily and relaxed my back on the chair to listen to what he had to say.“Your scans and test result came in, and there was no forced entry in the vagina that we can use for a rape case, although
Brielle’s POV“Do you know what a pink wolfsbane do to our kind?” he asked as he concocted a pink elixir in a bottle.I passed out after he choked the air out of me and I woke up in a bedroom with my hands tied to the bed.“Rio? What are you doing?” I looked around in fright because I already had an idea of what he was about to do.“You know, growing up I was seen as a menace. A mess that affects everything in his path but that’s not it,” the way he spoke and walked around like a psychopath had my heartbeat hard against my chest. He leaned over, sniffing my face with drools dripping out from his mouth, “I am not a psycho, just misunderstood. No one ever tries to understand me,”“Rio, whatever you think you are doing is wrong. Okay? Its all wrong and you know it,”“Wrong, right, good, bad, black, white. Those are all human’s way of thinking and we are not humans, we are creatures that surpasses the imagination.” He said as he looked me in the eyes. With a deep sigh, he pried open my mo
Brielle’s POV. I went to sit in my room, super annoyed. Why Rio had just tried to do that didn’t stick out to me, and I was annoyed. He had been acting so well lately, but it was when I had finally told him that he was a good person that he decided to act out? What was it with men? I shook my head, proud of myself for pushing him away, and I started putting together the money I had. I’d leave the clothes here. I came here with nothing but my clothes, and I’d leave that way. It wasn’t like anything I was being offered here, I wouldn’t be able get it by asking Zane or Lucien to do it for me. All the ease of mind that this place had offered me suddenly went up, and I was ready to burst into tears at this moment. I should have known that something was up when he was throwing this party for me. You don’t throw parties for just anybody. I wasn’t interested in him, so I would never encourage him to like me like that. There was a soft knock on my door, and I knew who it was. “Don’t com
Brielle’s POV. A little over a week had passed since I had got here, and I was starting to feel comfortable, too comfortable. Staying here no longer felt like a vacation, but I felt like I was actually at home, which wasn’t something nice if one thought about it deeply, but that’s not the point here. I came out to see pretty lights, tents and decorations going up, and I was pleasantly surprised, because who doesn’t love a nice party? Especially when you could smell nice things cooking, and you think of the enjoyment in store for you if you attended. I wasn’t informed of any parties, and since I wasn’t a native here, I was as confused as a newborn mouse. I heard Rio shouting something to someone, and waited for him to finish with what he was doing. Soon, he walked up to me. “You’re finally up. I thought we’d have to send in a doctor.” He pulled me into a one armed hug from the side. “Yeah.” I friend as we pulled away, touching my belly. “I was really tired.” “You need as mu
Brielle’s POV. “No, no. It’s fine. I just want to be up for a while, actually.” I said, chuckling, and Rio shook his head. “Why? Aren’t you tired? Or do you need something?” Before I could answer, he continued. “Maybe I’ve been a bad host, but I’d like for you to tell me whatever it is that you might need, and it will be provided.” Well, that was odd. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that he saw me as the alpha of a powerful kingdom, and was trying to suck up to me. “No! You, everything you’ve done has been wonderful, believe me. I just like to stay up late sometimes.” He nodded. “So do I. Actually I stay up most nights, because sleep doesn’t come easy to me, so…” “I think I get it.” I said, walking in front of him, and the guards followed us closely. He lingered at the door of my assigned room before I chuckled slightly. “You can come in, we were having a conversation before I started coming here anyway.” I sighed as I settled down onto the bed, looking up. Who
Chapter Twenty.Brielle’s POV. I walked through the pack’s territory with a guard trailing a few steps behind me. For my security, Rio had told me, and I was actually grateful for that. After that terrifying attack, I didn’t want to be out on my own in a space I didn’t know, so I was hoping that the guard would help me. The space was big and beautiful, with tall trees swaying gently in the breeze and flowers in full bloom, and their pretty colours was a feast for the eyes. The pack members moved about with purpose, and some even waved at me, and I wondered just how nice these people could be with how good they were treating me when they didn’t even know me or anything. I wondered when I’d be cleared to go home too. What would Lucien and Zane think of my disappearance? Would they be worried? Angry? A pang of guilt hit me as I realised that I had thought about Lucien before Zane, but I quickly pushed it aside. I needed to focus on healing, both physically and emotionally and being
