A Familiar Face

On the ride back to the luxury apartment, the car was eerily quiet. Samuel said nothing to Ciara, and neither did Ciara, and in order to distract herself from feeling uncomfortable, especially with Samuel’s stone-cold face, she decided to look outside the window instead.

It was safer to look through the walls of Mexico City and its people walking about freely and going about what they wanted to do, which was contrary to the life that Ciara was trapped in than to continue to see Samuel’s face and live in the fear that he might reach out and strangle her any moment. Ciara was grateful that after Samuel’s conversation with Aunt Mary, he had not bothered to confront her like he would usually do. Ciara had been skeptical about returning to the ward after what she had heard, so she had feigned having a light headache, which had prompted Aunt Mary to urge Samuel to take Ciara home.
