Chapter 22: A friend to have

I woke up to the soft warm orange glow of light, night had fallen and it was now evening. The camp was a bit quieter as everyone was either eating dinner or settling down for bed. The dancing orange glow of fires outside were lit once more and scattered through the forest like fireflies.

I shifted a bit and a startling realisation gripped me that sent me flying up out of the bed in panic and patting the space beside me hysterically. Eion wasn't beside me, he was gone. The space beside me was empty and cold.

I had fallen asleep for Moon Goddess knows how long and I didn't even feel him being moved from beside me. Fear almost spilled my heart. I turned and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw him sitting on a chair in front of the table next to the bed with the lamp lit.
