Chapter 20

The tension in the air was thick, and neither of them spoke for a long moment.

Finally, Henry cleared his throat. "Amelia, I'm sorry," he said, his voice low and regretful. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I just want you back."

Amelia's eyes narrowed. "You want me back?" she spat. "After everything you've done? After the way you've betrayed me?"

Henry winced, looking down at the floor. "I know I messed up," he said. "But I love you, Amelia. I always have. And I'll do anything to make things right."

Amelia shook her head, her eyes flashing with anger. "You can't make things right, Henry," she said. "You can't unring the bell. You can't take back what has already been done."

Henry stepped forward, reaching out to touch her arm. Amelia jerked away from him, her jaw set stubbornly.

Amelia left the kitchen, her heart pounding in her chest. She could feel Henry's eyes on her back as she walked away, but she refused to turn around.
