Chapter 27

"Amelia? Are you okay?"

She turned to see Alexander standing in the doorway, concern etched on his face. His piercing blue eyes searched hers, looking for any sign of distress.

Amelia's heart raced as she tried to compose herself. "I-I'm fine," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.

Alexander raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "Are you sure? You seem a little off."

Amelia shook her head, forcing a smile. "It's nothing, really. Just lost in thought, I guess."

Alexander studied her for a moment longer before nodding. "Okay. Well, I actually came to see Andrew. I have some documents to give him now that he's awake."

Amelia felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Oh, of course. He's upstairs, if you want to go see him."

"Thanks," Alexander said with a smile. "How has he been doing?"

"He's doing okay, I guess. He's just been... there, you know? Sometimes I don't just understand him."

Alexander nodded sympathetically. "It must be tough. But you'll get used to it."
