Chaoter 4 - Regret

In an old house on the edge of town, Caroline lay on a carpet and thin blanket. She was forced to live in her grandmother's former house which she had left for a long time before she continued to his destination. Caroline decided to go by sea. Not because she couldn't afford to go by plane, but she was afraid that Dillbert would be able to track her whereabouts.

Caroline smiled sadly. Maybe she was too confident that Dillbert would really look for her, even though the man clearly didn't want her anymore.

Just Yesterday, she still remembered how Dillbert kicked her out when she was making a surprise for him, but it was Dillbert who gave her a surprise first by returning with his first love and saying he would marry her straight away. Since then, Caroline's heart felt like it had been stabbed by a thousand knives.

"Soon we will leave, my child. I won't let you near those people. They have been mean to us. They never wanted us."

Caroline whispered while stroking her stomach, remembering the pain Dillbert gave her and the insults from Mr. Dillbert's mother.

However, on the other hand, Caroline is still grateful because her fetus is no longer fussy, she no longer has nausea and vomiting. Maybe because her baby understands her current situation.

A week after Caroline left, Mr. Dillbert's condition is not good. Now he has become a cold and arrogant figure. Almost every day he wastes things on his desk when there is a problem. Now because of Caroline's departure he really can't control his emotions.

"Dillbert!"

Mrs. Jasmine came in when she heard a commotion in her only son's office. Mrs. Jasmine came with Sally, who had been ignored by Dillbert for a week.

"Can you knock on the door before entering ?" Dillbert asked his mother with an annoyed expression.

"I'm your mother, Dillbert. Don't you think you should be polite to me!" Mrs. Jasmine shook her head at the chaos that occurred in Dillbert's room, papers scattered around, broken flower vases scattered on the floor.

Meanwhile, Dillbert's new secretary looked down listlessly in the corner of the room.

"You can leave now!"

Mrs. Jasmine ordered Dillbert's new secretary to leave. The secretary quickly rushed out, she was shaking. she knew she hade made a mistake, but she didn't expect Mr. Dillbert to be so angry with her. After that, Mrs. Jasmine approached Dillbert, she rubbed her beloved son's shoulder. Dillbert has really changed now since Caroline left.

Afterward, Mrs. Jasmine knows that her son is like this because Caroline left, but she blames Caroline because she really hates him. Even though Dillbert's attitude has always been arrogant and stubborn, Caroline's arrival into Mr. Dillbert's life is what makes Dillbert better.

"Mom has decided that your marriage will go ahead and Sally doesn't mind."

Sally approached. She was a little shocked to see the mess that Dillbert had made. However, that did not cancel her intention to remain Dillbert's wife, because Sally needed a lot of money to pay off all her debts. His parents' wealth had run out and they lost big when gambling. Instead of winning, even their house and assets are not enough to cover their debts.

Sally stepped in front of Dillbert, Sally rubbed the man's jaw gently. Dillbert looked up, his head was very dizzy making his vision a little blurry.

"Caroline..." Mr. Dillbert whispered, he stretched out his hand, he held Sally's face because he thought Sally was Caroline.

Sally, who heard Dillbert's words, felt annoyed, but she had to pretend to be gentle. She had to convince Dillbert and his mother so that Dillbert would still marry her.

Five years have passed.

At a contractor company, Caroline was busy recapping the monthly report that she had to submit before lunch time.

Caroline has been working for this company for a year. Before that, she worked in a cafe on the beach. She had to do whatever it took to make a living with her only son.

"Caroline... today our new CEO will come, they say he is very handsome and very young." Caroline's friend Rose babbled.

Then Rose sat beside Caroline and helped Caroline put her report file into the folder.

"Aren't you dressed up?" he asked when he saw Caroline, who was used to appearing very plain and simple.

"Why should I?" Caroline asked back, she was still focused on her printer. There were still several files that she hadn't printed.

"To catch the eye of the new boss, of course..." Rose teased.

Caroline just smiled faintly. She wasn't interested at all.

Since Dillbert betrayed her, she has hated men. According to her, all men are the same, they whould only be nice when they wanted something from her.

"You guys, I already have children." Caroline answered lightly.

"Even though you already have children, who knows, he might still like you, Caroline. We never knows?"

Caroline shook her head slowly, then turned off the printer and placed the last file she had printed on the table.

Today the atmosphere in the company is very busy to welcome the new CEO. In the corner of the room, Caroline, who works in the administrative staff section, is busy examining the report she has printed out because she is afraid she will miss something. And it's true that there were documents that were missed.

Caroline rushed to the document room. Thankfully, because the workers had gathered on the 1st floor to welcome the new CEO, Caroline could freely export the place, and it didn't take long for her to find the document.

When Caroline returned to the first floor, the atmosphere was quiet without a crowd of employees visible. He looked to his right and left but everything looked as usual.

"Is the reception over? Very fast." She muttered as she walked towards the elevator.

When he returned to the third floor, his friends had returned to work as usual. Caroline also joined in, she wasn't even interested in asking about the new CEO because from the start she wasn't as enthusiastic as the others.

Now the time is exactly 12 o'clock. Caroline turned off her computer and was ready to go to lunch in the cafeteria.

"Rose, let's go to lunch." Invite him.

Rose turned to Caroline and she shook her head.

"I haven't finished my work yet, Caroline, you go ahead; I need to wrap this up first."

Caroline nodded, because she was very hungry because she didn't have time to eat breakfast at home this morning. She woke up late because Clayton, her son was sick so he didn't sleep almost all night.

While waiting for the elevator, Caroline caught a familiar scent. it reminded her of Dillbert's favorite expensive cologne. Not wanting to get lost in the painful memories of the past, She covered her nose and looked down deeply.

"Why are you covering your nose? Do I smell bad?"

The hoarse, heavy voice brushed against Caroline's ears, making her body to shake violently with fear.
