Chapter 64

Alessa faked sickness to get out of the date and work. Then she went straight home to find John walking around their living room trying to calm Matthew down.

“Alessa, how are you? I was hoping to see you on this trip!” John exclaimed while adding shush towards Matthew.

“Hi John,” Alessa glumly greets.

“What’s wrong?” He asked putting Matthew down on a bouncy chair and strapping him in.

“I ran into your brother this morning,” Alessa said, taking a seat on the floor right in front of Matthew rattling a toy to cajol him.

“You did?” John asked, joining her.

“Madison’s right. He’s moved on. From me, from his wife.” Alessa sighed.

“Is that what it looks like?” John bitterly asked. “He is Kyle after all. He’ll suffer in silence. He did when you broke his heart, and he is doing it now when he is trying to protect you. Every time I come to see Madison, he wonders if I’ve gotten a glimpse of you. He wants to know how you are every hour of the day, but he can’t—“
