CHAPTER NINETY-NINE: SUCIDE NOTE

Catherine’s POV

The bell above the bookstore door chimed softly as I stepped inside. She was striking—her dark, wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, her tailored dress displaying her sophistication. She moved about the shelves with such confidence. She seemed to know what she was looking for but the way she scanned the shelves with a deliberate slowness suggested otherwise.

I was straightening a display of hardcovers when she approached, her heels snapping lightly on the wooden floor. I tried to keep my expression welcoming and professional. “Good afternoon! Welcome to the bookstore. Is there anything I can help you with?”

She turned, offering a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Yes, actually. I’m looking for something in the suspense romance genre.”

“Oh, absolutely!” I said, my enthusiasm genuine. She was a suspense romance lover like myself. “We have a great selection. Follow me, and I’ll show you a few options.”
