CHAPTER HUNDRED-ONE: BODY IN A BOX

Simon’s POV

I could hardly breathe as I stood there, Alicia’s desperate gaze was pressing down on me. Her eyes were filled with confusion and hurt, and I knew I had to push her away, no matter how much I didn’t want to hurt her.

“Why are you pushing me away?” she asked, her voice trembling.

“I’m sorry,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “I can’t pretend anymore. It’s over, Alicia.”

“Why?” she demanded. “I did everything you asked. I went to her and I delivered the note.”

“I’m so sorry,” I repeated, though the words felt shallow.

She looked at me as if she had been slapped on the face. “So, you used me?” she said, her voice rose with anger. “You used me to get what you wanted and now you want to discard me?”

“You discarded me, Alicia,” I shot back, my frustration was spilling over. “You broke up with me.”

She looked pained. “I was wrong. I’m sorry.”

“It’s too late,” I said, feeling the resolve of my words. “You need to go.”
