CHAPTER NINETY-FIVE: HOT TUB

Catherine’s POV

I stared at the steam curling from the water in the tub, trying to shake off the remnants of the night. Alexander with his head tipped back against the tub’s edge, looked as drained as I felt. I couldn't get the images of those female clothes I discovered in the closet while wandering out of my head. They’d been scattered in the closet—dresses, blouses, and skirts that weren't mine. The suspicion and confusion had gnawed at me all morning.

“Where is Simon?” I said, breaking the silence. I needed a distraction, something to cling to other than the tangled mess of my thoughts.

He sighed, the sound blending with the splash of the water. “Simon’s in jail where he belongs and he’ll be in there for a really long time.” He said without letting up his head or opening his eyes.

There was a little silence and then his voice came harshly. “Do you feel sorry for him?” He looked at me.

I frowned. “No. I just think he is a lawyer. It won’t be hard for him to get out.”
