Chapter 4: The Contract

Emelia's Pov

"Let's get into a  fake relationship, "

"Why?" I found myself asking even when I was the one that suggested it  in the first place.

But then he  had bluntly refused, so why the sudden change of  mind  and in the last few hours.

A long deafening silence took over and I would have thought he had ended the call but I could hear his breathing.

"But you rejected my proposal?" I reminded.

"And I'm agreeing to it now."

"So?"

" Leo will be at your place to pick you up first thing tomorrow" and with that he ended the call.

I stared at my phone blankly, thinking about every single thing that happened in the last few hours.

It all still seems like a dream and I was finding it hard to believe. I just ended my marriage with my supposed fiance for me to end up in a fake relationship with a business tycoon.

What's the chance that all this is nothing but a dream?

I placed my phone on the shelf,  I grabbed my towel and wrapped it around my body. I walked into my room and sat in front of the dresser, staring at my reflection in the mirror.

I sat still, trying to figure out what exactly he saw in the other woman that made him cheat on me but there was nothing I could think of. I was definitely more beautiful but it seems that wasn't enough to keep him.

My wedding to him was definitely over.

A part of me was afraid but a part of me was happy even though he cheated on me and the wedding was over.

I'd be getting into a relationship  and that too, with a business tycoon.  So, if any questions were asked. I'll tell them I fell in love with someone else instead.

A sad smile made its way to my lips, reminiscing about the past Jeffrey and I shared together. But it was over and I had to accept it and move on.

The next morning, I woke up earlier, packed my belongings and waited patiently for Leo. And when I was just starting to think Isaiah might have a change of mind, I received a message on my phone asking me.

I dragged my luggage out of my house, reaching downstairs to meet Leo standing in front of a car. A different model from the one I crashed into the other night.

"Good morning ma'am," he greeted, helping me with my luggage.

"Morning," I said softly, still feeling embarrassed that he had witnessed my breakdown the other night.

I seriously needed  to limit my alcohol intake but then again, it wasn't entirely my fault. That jerk is to be blamed for everything!

He nodded, putting my luggage in the boot then went ahead to open the door for me. I stood in front of the car, shocked to see Isaiah seated.

"You are here," I uttered, entering into the car.

"You are going to be my girlfriend, the least I could do is to be here to pick you up," he mused, his eyes fixed on the tab in his hand not bothering to spare me a glance.

"You are cute, I love that." I cooed lovingly, not missing the way Leo was trying to hold his laughter.

"I'm not cute, Emelia" he grunts, finally looking away from his tab, his green eyes staring into mine.

"But you look cute, you know?"

"I'm not a child!"

"Come on!  an adult can look cute too" I smiled, loving the way I was getting on his nerves. I know damn well that I should just keep  my mouth shut and sit quietly but then, he's going to be my boyfriend and the least I could do is to get to know him. I possibly can't leave the rest of my life staying in the shadows and not knowing even the slightest bit about  him.

Rather than responding, he returned his attention back to his tab like no one was talking. I leaned my car's back rest, staring into space. Since it's hard to force him to engage in a conversation with me. I might as well think about something else. Just that there wasn't anything I could think about except for the fact that I would have been on the aisle, next beside Jeffrey and probably saying our vows.

After rejecting him the other night, he sent hundreds of messages to me. Pleading and apologizing for cheating on me but I know too well than to believe that he was actually sorry. Followed by calls from both our mothers which means he must have told them about my decision to end the wedding.

"Let's talk about the contract," he said, drawing me out of my thoughts and I couldn't help but be happy. I was starting to think about the past Jeffrey and I shared together and that was the last thing I should be doing.

"Okay,"

"First, we can't interfere in each other's business." He stated coldly without sparing me a glance.

"What if there is a need to?" I asked, knowing too well that'll be hard to do.

"Then we have to make sure there won't,"

"Hmm," I hummed. It won't be easy to change his mind now but I can would still work on doing that later.

"Secondly, there'll be no mention of our past relationships. They stay and remain in the past like they should and thirdly..." He paused for a while. "You can never demand intimate moments between us. No mention of love and affection cause tha is   something I cannot give to you,"

"But what if one of us ends up having feelings? What about that ?" I asked. I had no intention of falling in love with him so it wasn't a problem but I was just curious.

"Then we end the contract and go our separate ways, Emelia," he replied, his voice cold and firm.
