Chapter 1: Broken Heart

Emelia's Pov

I stood still staring at the pictures on my phone screen. I still couldn’t believe what I was seeing. My heart beating heavily against my chest as if threatening to fall out.

Funny, how just a few pictures could.ruin what was supposed to be the happiest moment of my entire life.

My whole world was crumbling and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

I stood up in an instant,  grabbing  my car keys and headed towards my car.  I knew damn well I shouldn’t  be driving but I just couldn't care. There was no need, my life was already ruined

"Jeffrey can't be trusted, Emelia"

"But I love him and I trust him, that's all that matters right?"

"True, but those two things are never enough. You shouldn't trust someone like him this much. It'll only ruin you,"

My friend's words flashed across my mind and more than anything, I was hoping she was here for me to tell her that it did ruin me.

Jeffrey has finally ruined me.

I entered my car, before starting the car's engine. The voices in my head were telling me to go back inside and forget about it. It won't hurt to ignore the pictures and believe he's still the same man I fell in love with five years ago. But then...

'It won't hurt to confirm that the picture was fake'

I drove out of my compound, driving faster than I ever have in the last seven years since I've been driving.

After what felt like hours, I reached the front of the Royal Hotel. My hands holding tightly to the steering wheel, I contemplated driving off. But instead, I alighted from my car, handed my car key to the chauffeur and walked into the hotel.

The same hotel we met for the first time.

Not bothering to walk over to the receptionist, I headed to the room number that was sent alongside with the pictures.

That was the exact room he had proposed to me and asked me to be his legal wife.

Reaching the front of the room, I pushed the door open cause coincidentally, the room was open.

My lips curved into a sad smile as I walked into the room, welcomed with a sight that would  forever remain printed in my mind.

I stood still, watching him with a woman that wasn't me. The more I stood there, the more I felt like my heart had been completely  ripped out of her chest.

I felt  suffocated, I was losing it.

"Jeffrey..." I said, my voice barely a whisper. For the first time since we met, I felt nothing but hatred.

His eyes met mine, unaware of my presence in the room. The lady beside him pulled the duvet up to cover her naked chest, her lips pulled into a sly smile.

"What are you doing here, Emelia?" He asked surprisingly, brushing back his hair with his fingers.

"That's all you have to say?"

"What else do you expect me to say," he snapped . "You should be at home,. preparing for our wedding. So, I want to know what you are doing here exactly?"

"Are you kidding me, right now?" I was finding it hard to believe my ears and a part of me was hoping and wishing that this was nothing but a nightmare. A nightmare that'll soon come to an end. I just witnessed him having sex with another woman and instead of apologizing and trying to come up with an excuse to convince me that none of this is real. He's pissed because I'm here?!

"You don't expect me to apologize for this, do you?" He scoffed. "I'll be spending the rest of my life with you,the least I could do for myself is have some fun for the last time."

Shocked and confused, I took a step back.  What was he saying?

There's no way he's the same man that promised to love and protect me. And there's no way he's the Jeffrey I know.

"Jeffrey," I called, finding it more hard to believe that any of this was real. I turned my attention to the lady beside him and I watched as the smile on her face grew wider.

Turns out I have been a fool and I've been the only one blind enough to not see the red flags.

"I don't know how you found out but I'm damn sure you could have chosen to ignore it."

I bit my lips, trying so hard to stop the tears in my eyes from falling. Letting out a defeated breath, I walked towards the side of his bed, stood in front of him and slapped him hard across his face.

"Emelia!"

"We are done, Jeffrey." Four words... Funny how four words could end everything.

"There's no way you'll do that, Emelia."

"Watch me,"

I turned around and walked out of the room, ignoring his calls.

Instead of heading straight to my car, I walked towards the hotel bar. I needed something to calm me down, anything.

"Good evening ma," the bartender greeted and I nodded in response.

"Five shots of whiskey," I ordered, ignoring the curiosity in the bartender's eyes.

He nodded and turned around to get my order ready. After what felt like hours, he finally placed the five shots of whiskey on the bar table. And without thinking twice, I drank the five shots, ignoring the burning sensation in my throat. I just needed something to numb the pain for a while and that worked perfectly.

I left a few dollars on the counter, walking as fast as my legs could take me. I needed to be out of here... I needed to breathe because I felt suffocated and I felt really tired.

I entered my car and drove off. I was driving too fast but I just couldn't stop myself. My head was aching, because of the alcohol but I couldn't care less.

'Jeffrey can't be trusted'

'He'll only ruin you, Emelia'

'You deserve someone better'

'I'm happy for you but you shouldn't get married to a jerk like him'

The voices echoed in my head. They grew louder and louder, overwhelming me until I felt like I was losing control.

I closed my eyes, tears pouring out my. Suddenly, the tires screeched and a loud crash followed as my car hit something on the outside. Everything went quiet, eerily quiet except for the strange silence.

A silence that'll definitely haunt me if I survive this.
