chapter six

After alpha duncan had taken both my son and me in,  we were later taken to a cottage very close to the pack house. Alpha Duncan said it was very dangerous for me to be living directly in the pack house considering the fact that wolves get angry easily and were very wild.

The cottage wasn't grand but it was comfortable and cozy.

"This is our new home now" I said to my son with a smile on my face.

**FIVE YEARS LATER**

"Kayden! Kayden!" I yelled at the top of my lungs

I was starting to panic even though I knew that he was obviously fine. A few minutes ago I had left him with Martha, only to come back with him gone and eighty years old Martha asleep in a rocking chair. I had just needed to get some groceries but I didn't want to take Kayden with me because he always threw tantrums when we got to the toy section, even if we were just walking past it.

"Have you seen Kayden?" I asked Tracy the pack doctor and my closest friend. She was in the pack hospital with a patient who was unconscious or maybe asleep.

"Yeah he was with alpha Duncan just now" she said absentmindedly while checking on her patient.

"Oh thank God" I said with a breath of relief

"I don't know why you're always worried when you know he's not gonna go missing. I mean the pack is a hundred percent secure" she said slowly taking off her gloves from each finger

Tracy is a very petite, dark haired  girl and her personality was almost like Mecca's, maybe that was why we were so close. She always seemed to have something to talk about and never ran out of gossip. I guess that's what you get for spending hours with sick wolves who are high on drugs and tend to spill their secrets.

"I know he's fine but I just can't help but worry." I said

"Motherhood is something I would never understand" she said with a fake irritated Expression

"Of course you will" she gave me a "really" look  "someday..... but not today" I added quickly

Tracy had always hated kids but Kayden was an exception, but at times she seemed to be irritated by him. She and her mate Henry had decided that they were not going to have kids and although I couldn't understand it, I still respected her decision.

"I'm gonna go get Kayden" I said leaving her alone to continue her work.

I walked to the pack house greeting everyone that I met on the way. Even though I didn't know every single person in the pack, they all knew who I was. Firstly because I was human and secondly because my son seemed to be a powerful wolf, and some wolves seemed to find it unbelievable that I, a human had given birth to him. I did receive weird stares sometimes and weird questions occasionally, but other than that the pack members were nice to me.

I got to the alpha's office and knocked on the door.

"Come in" said alpha duncan

I walked in and Kayden was seated on the alpha's lap while furiously tapping on an Ipad.

"Kayden your mother is here" said alpha duncan

Kayden looked up and when he saw me his face lit up, he squealed in excitement and ran to give me a hug.

"Mommy! Mommy!  look at what alpha Duncan got me!" He said excitedly while showing me the ipad

"He got this for you?" I asked while looking at alpha Duncan. Alpha Duncan seemed to love Kayden like a son and always got him gifts, but even though he seemed to have good intentions, I wasn't always comfortable with them.

"He said he wanted one " alpha Duncan said nonchalantly

"Thank you so much alpha Duncan but Kayden doesn't need an ipad. He spends too much time watching TV already" I said with a smile, trying to soften the refusal of the gift.

"It's okay with me, he can have it" he said

"Yay!!!" Kayden cheered with joy

"Kayden" I scolded

"Claire you know I'm not a stranger, so why don't you just let me spoil the little guy a little" he said while ruffling Kayden's jet black hair which needed a haircut badly.

"Please mommy can I have it? I promise I'll eat all my yucky vegetables" Kayden said with his eyes wide.

Kayden looked nothing like me, the only thing he seemed to have inherited from me were his eye colour. He had black hair while I had blonde, I didn't need to be a scientist to know that he must definitely look like his birth father. If only I knew who he was.

"Okay you can have it" I said "but alpha Duncan, I know you mean well but please ask me next time before getting him anything " I said with a pleading look

"I will don't worry" he said

Even though he promised, I knew he wasn't going to  do so next time. We've already been through this before. I carried Kayden up and nestled him on my hip and was about walking out of alpha Duncan's office when he stopped me.

"Oh and Claire?" He said

"Yes alpha Duncan" I said

"Tomorrow we are having a visitor, a very important and extremely powerful visitor so try to stay indoors okay" he said

I nodded my head in affirmation and walked out with Kayden.

When I had gotten to the pack, it was extremely hard to fit in with anyone. Everyone saw me as a miracle and my son was like a piece of golden sun that seemed impossible. Alpha Duncan said he didn't know how other wolf pack and the high ranking wolves would react if they ever found out that a human had given birth to a wolf without any complications and to top it off, my son seemed to be something impossible In the wolf world, he's a prodigy.

Alpha Duncan didn't want to take any chances with me and my son's safety, so whenever other pack wolves visited we always stayed hidden to make sure that they never found out about us. Tomorrow a powerful wolf would be visiting and once again we would stay indoors. Just for one day.
