chapter fourteen

I went to the bathroom to change and I opened the duffel bag to see a red floral dress and under wear.

Did he pick these out himself? Even the under wear?. I put them on and they were all surprisingly my size. How did he know my size so well?

"I'm ready" I announced as I walked out of the bathroom. The look I'm his eyes when he saw me, made me feel a certain way. He ran his eyes all over my body, stripping me naked with his eyes.

"You're so beautiful" he said almost breathlessly

"Thank you" I blushed. I cleared my throat " let's go"

It turns out the royal hospital was only five minutes away from Jacobi's mansion. We got to his house and I didn't even wait for him to get out of the car before I rushed into his mansion to see my son.

"Kayden!" I called out

"Mommy!" He squealed happily as he ran to meet me. I carried him in my arms as I swung him around.

"My baby boy, God I've missed you so much" I said with so much joy "

"I missed you more" he said

"I'm here now okay and I'm not going anywhere" I promised him

"I love you so much mommy" he hugged me tighter

"I love you most" I replied

"Daddy come join us" Kayden said as he stretched out his hand to pull Jacobi in for a hug. "I love you both" Kayden said

"We love you too" Jacobi said as he planted a kiss on Kayden's forehead and then on mine. He looked at me with a hint of a smile, and those butterflies resurfaced again.

"Mommy you need to see my room" Kayden said excitedly

"Did Daddy decorate it?" I asked, keeping up with his excitement

"Yeah, we both decorated it together. Come see" he dragged my hands and pulled me in the direction of his room.

Kayden opened the door and I gasped when I saw the decor of the room, it looked amazing. The room was painted blue with a paw patrol theme.

"This is incredible.You both did this yourselves" I asked in amazement

"Yes mommy, daddy painted the whole wall and I was his special assistant" Kayden said with so much pride

"And you were the best assistant in the world" Jacobi said to him. Kayden beamed happily at the compliment.

"Did you hear that mommy, I'm the best assistant in the world!" He started running around and Jacobi and I burst out in laughter.

I stayed with Kayden until he finally fell asleep in my arms. I layed him on the bed and watched him with a smile on my face. I walked out of Kayden's room leaving the door slightly open just in case.

There was something I needed to do first before going to bed. 

Jacobi was seated in his office with loads of papers in front of him. His nose was scrunched up as he read one of the papers. His office somehow reminded me of my father's office, it had the same cold and dark feeling with its dark grey painted walls.

"We need to talk" I said closing the door behind me.

"About?" He didn't look up from the paper he was holding.

"I need your attention" he raised an eyebrow " all your attention" I said crossing my arms over my chest.

He dropped the paper he was holding and stared at me with a gesture that said " I'm all ears"

"I know this might not be an appropriate question to ask but, who is Liliana?" I asked with a scowl

"She's no one" he said with a shrug

"She's definitely not no one." I said, getting a little bit worked up. Noticing my temper rising, I took a deep breath and continued. "If you have any more uh .....surprises in the cupboard, this is the right time to come clean and tell me about it"

"She's no one claire, unimportant" he said

"Dammit! Jacobi just tell me the truth okay" I had tried to not get worked up but this was getting on my nerves " I don't want a repeat of what happened. I need to know that I'm safe here. With you" my eyes were pleading, begging him to say the truth.

He got up from his chair and moved around the office desk.

"Look at me" he commanded but my eyes were moist with tears and I didn't want him to see.

He placed a finger under my chin and lightly pushed my head upward. His gaze softened when he saw the vulnerability in my eyes.

"Jacobi I almost died that day" I said slowly biting my lip to hold back the tears.

He was close enough for me to see how his jaw ticked, I took that as a sign that he was angry at something.

"No one would dare hurt a strand of hair on your head Claire. You are safe" he said in a voice that turned my knees to butter. What was more surprising was that I believed that he would actually keep me safe.

'thank you Jacobi.....I mean your majesty" I quickly corrected myself

"Jacobi is fine " he said with a sly grin " I like hearing my name from those lips" he stared at my lips to make his words more clear.

Such simple words he had uttered, yet a blush was slowly creeping up my cheeks.

"You tend to do that a lot and so easily" he said in amusement

"Do what?" I asked

"Blush" he said and I blushed even deeper " see what I mean?"

"It's cause I'm pale skinned that's why it shows, if not it's thesame for everyone" I said but in actual reality, I did blush easily. And I've been doing a lot of that since I met Jacobi.

He rubbed his thumb on my rosy cheek and I blushed harder. At this point I must look like an overripe tomato with white hair.

"You're beautiful Claire" he said softly "everything about you is beautiful. Even your red cheeks"

"Okay if you don't stop with the compliments I might as well turn into a red sock at this point" I said, trying not to blush which I was failing at.

He smirked at me with a playful glint in his black eyes. I studied him for a second before finally realizing something "You're enjoying this aren't you?" I said

His smirk grew wider and I rolled my eyes at him.

"Did you just roll your eyes at me?" He asked surprised

"What? No one has ever done that before?" I taunted with a playful laugh, but the look on his face said he was damn serious.

"Oh shit! O my gosh, you have to be kidding me. No one has ever rolled their eyes at you" I asked clearly notbelieving him

"No" he said with a stern voice

"That's a fucking lie. Why would no one roll their eyes at you, I haven't known you for up to a week and I've felt the need to want to smack your head more than once." I said

"No one has ever rolled their eyes at me nor even dared to smack my head before because they won't live to tell another soul" he said

I laughed really hard but stopped when I saw that he was serious. "You're not joking? You're serious" I said in shock.

He leaned forward and bent his head down to whisper in my ear.

"People are mostly too scared to open their mouths in front of me, much less even dare to roll their eyes at me. You're the first woman who has done so"

My words were stuck in my throat as my mouth hung open. My heart was beating fast as I realized I had called him a liar and also, did what no one had ever dared to do to him. It was such a simple thing, to roll my eyes at him. yet I couldn't help the inkling of fear that was slowly creeping in.

"Relax Claire I won't hurt you. I promised to protect you remember" he said sensing my body tense up.

I took a breath of relief I didn't know I was holding in. There are moments when he makes me feel safe and there are moments when I he makes me feel scared.

"Then you're welcome" I said with a mischievous smile on my face

"For what?" He asked confused

"For being your first" I said with a wink. I rushed out of his office before he could give me any reply
