chapter eight

The unmated wolves were fangirling over him but I didn't care. My son was my uttermost priority.

The hall became noisy again as they all tried to get his attention, I suddenly felt bad for Abigail, I had made her loose her opportunity but what else could I have done. I made a mental note to pay her back more than I should, as long it was about my son I would go to the ends of the world for him.

"I'll send the rest of paperwork to you" said an unfamiliar yet familiar voice. I felt a chill go through my spine at the  sound of the voice

"No problem your majesty." Said alpha Duncan

Your majesty? Was this person royalty? No wonder the unmated wolves wanted a piece of him. I didn't know everything about the wolf world but I've stayed long enough to know that there is a system of hierarchy that is way more strict than the human world.

The only set of wolves higher than an alpha is the royal family, they have lived for ages and unlike normal wolves, they do not age. The royal family are the first set of wolves the moon goddess ever made, their history goes way beyond civilization. They rule the wolf world with power and they are referred to as lycans, the current lycan king is Jacobi thoryan. The pack females love to gossip about him and daydream about being his mate.

He is the most feared and most powerful being in the wolf world, whenever his name is mentioned wolves quiver and shake in fear. I had never met him before but I knew enough to know that I was supposed to stay away from him if I wanted my son and me to survive the wolf world.

But that thought was already too late because there he was, a few feet away from me.

The entourage that had followed him were trying to keep the females from getting too close, but they didn't need to because his aura was screaming intimidating. I wasn't a wolf but I could feel it.

He was almost out the door, but then he stopped in his tracks. My heart started to beat really fast, but it wasn't because I was worried about Kayden. No' it was beating hard for another entirely different reason, a royal reason.

He turned around and took a whiff of the air. The females suddenly became excited, they were squealing with joy,  maybe he had found his mate amongst one of them. He took slow steps forward, towards......my direction! Oh God!

I bent my head down and prayed he would turn around. Please don't let Abigail find Kayden now, what if he saw him and decided to do something bad to him? Oh my God, my son!

I still hadn't seen his face yet but I could feel him get closer and closer, his aura was overwhelming even for a human. There was something about his cologne or maybe it was just him, but it made my insides turn to mush. I could've sworn it was very familiar, just like......... No no it's impossible. is it?

"Claire smith" his  voice sounded so majestic and yet it oozed power. Wait! How did he know my name?

I raised my head and when I saw his face, a loud gasp escaped my lips. It was him. I opened and closed my mouth in disbelief.

Everyone in the common room was staring at us with opened jaws. They were clearly surprised that the lycan king knew who I was. Alpha Duncan walked forward and stood in between us.

"Do you two know each other" he asked while putting a reassuring hand on my shoulder which only earned a growl from him. Alpha Duncan quickly removed his hand.

"You......what...." I couldn't seem to construct a coherent sentence because my brain was in shut down mode.

I stared at his eyes and I felt myself get absorbed in them. I didn't realize I had stood up until he touched my cheek lightly. He looked so much like Kayden, or Kayden looked so much like him rather.

" Where have you been" he whispered

"Mommy!" Kayden squealed while rushing towards me to give me a hug. I was suddenly thrown out of my trance and brought back to reality. I hugged my son with a sigh of relief.

" Mommy?" Jacobi said in surprise.

I gulped. Jacobi seemed surprised, and then angry.

"Is this your kid?" He asked with a hint of anger.

I stared at him with fear in my eyes. Could he tell that Kayden was his?

"Who's the father?" He asked in an almost growl. He seemed pissed off

"Your majesty please calm down" alpha Duncan said trying to ease the tension " this is not the place" he said while motioning to the crowd watching our exchange

"I couldn't give a fuck right now" he said through gritted.

"I asked a question Claire, Who's the father?"  The anger in his voice was more pronounced now

"Stay away from my mother!" Kayden growled while standing defensively in front of me. Even though he was a child, his voice seemed to intimidate most wolves.

Jacobi stared at him in shock, he couldn't believe what Kayden just did. He took a longer look at Kayden and his eyes widened in realization.

"Claire who is his father" he asked again but this time in a softer voice

I felt a tear roll down my cheek and Kayden turned around and gave me a hug.

"Mommy don't cry" Kayden said

Jacobi ran his hands through his hair exasperatedly. He stared at me with raised eyebrows and I only nodded my head in reply.

"Impossible" said alpha Duncan in disbelief " lycans cannot have children with humans"

Jacobi knelt down to Kayden's level, but even though he was kneeling, he was still way taller and bigger than my five years old son who was already at my waist level.

He stretched out his hand and Kayden was reluctant to take it. Kayden stared at him and then at me, I smiled to reassure him that everything was fine.

"It's okay Kayden" I said

He took his hand and gave him a bear hug. For a minute Jacobi was still, but then he hugged him back with a smile on his face

"My son" he whispered while hugging him for the first time.
