Chapter 4

Max suddenly sat up, startling the staff from the organ donation agency around him.

He pulled off the white sheet covering his body, his face shifting between pale and flushed as if he couldn't believe the plan had unraveled so quickly. His expression was dark, frustrated, knowing full well that things were not going as smoothly as he had expected.

Rena, ever quick to react, rushed to his side, pulling Evan with her. They hurriedly stood in front of Max as if trying to shield him from further exposure.

"What's going on here? Doctor, could there have been an issue with the equipment?" she shouted, her voice loud enough to carry across the room.

Though her words were framed as a question, I, already aware of the truth, heard the veiled threat in her tone.

It was a simple ploy, one I knew all too well: push the blame onto a "technical mistake," turn a disaster into a minor incident, and make everything quietly disappear.
