Aurora's pov

I threw off the covers and got out of bed, feeling a mix of relief and exhaustion. I stumbled to the bathroom to start my morning routine, hoping that a hot shower and some fresh clothes would help me shake off the lingering unease from the night before.

As I dressed and made my way to the kitchen, I couldn't help but think about the alpha and the beta. What was going on between them, and why did they both seem so interested in me?

I pushed the thoughts aside and focused on making some breakfast. As I ate, I noticed that the guard was already waiting for me outside my door.

"Good morning, ma'am," he said, nodding at me. "I'll be escorting you to work today."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief that I wouldn't have to navigate the city on my own. As we walked to the store, I couldn't help but notice the way the guard seemed to be scanning the crowds, his eyes watchful and alert.

"Is everything okay?" I asked him, writing on my notepad.

The guard nodded. "Yes, ma'am. Just being cautious. There have been some... incidents in the city lately."

I raised an eyebrow, curious. "What kind of incidents?"

The guard hesitated, then leaned in close. "Let's just say that there are some people in the city who aren't too happy about your presence here."

I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized that I might be in more danger than I had thought.

"But so far, the people have been helpful and kind," I wrote, looking confused.

The guard nodded. "Yes, but you can't expect everyone to like you. And besides, your sudden business success has been on everyone's lips around the city, so you shouldn't expect more."

I wanted to write something in response, but the guard held my pen. "No more questions," he said. "Come on, a young girl who is mute - pardon me, not even spending a month here - has already started establishing herself. Let it not bother you. Just consider it a... trend in the city."

The guard's words were cryptic, and I couldn't help but feel that there was more to the story. But before I could press him for more information, he gestured for me to follow him, and we continued on our way to the store.

As we walked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The guard's words had left me with more questions than answers, and I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something going on in the city that I wasn't aware of.

When we arrived at the store, I was relieved to see that it was already bustling with customers. I threw myself into my work, trying to distract myself from the nagging feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach.

But despite my best efforts, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. I kept looking over my shoulder, expecting to see the beta or the alpha lurking in the shadows. But every time, there was no one there.

As the day wore on, the feeling of unease only grew stronger. I began to wonder if I had made a mistake by coming to this city. Was I really safe here, or was I just pretending to be?

Just as I was starting to feel like I couldn't take it anymore, the guard appeared at my side. "Time to close up shop, ma'am," he said, his voice firm but gentle.

I nodded, relieved to be leaving the store behind. But as we walked back to my apartment, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being pulled deeper into a web of secrets and lies. And I had no idea how to escape.

As we walked, the guard seemed to sense my unease. He placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder, his eyes scanning the crowds around us.

When we arrived at my apartment, the guard hesitated outside the door. "Ma'am, I need to tell you something," he said, his voice low and serious.

I looked up at him, my heart racing with anticipation. What could he possibly want to tell me?

The guard glanced around nervously, as if he was worried about being overheard. "I don't think you should trust the alpha," he whispered. "He's not what he seems."

I felt a jolt of surprise, my mind racing with questions. What did the guard mean? What secrets was the alpha hiding?

But before I could ask any questions, the guard turned and quickly disappeared into the night, leaving me alone and confused.

But before I could ask any questions, the guard turned and quickly disappeared into the night, leaving me alone and confused.

I slowly got out of bed and approached the window, my heart pounding in my chest. As I reached the window, I saw a piece of paper stuck to the glass. I carefully removed it and examined it.

It was a note, written in hasty handwriting. "Meet me at the old warehouse on the outskirts of town at midnight. Come alone." The note was unsigned, but it seemed to be from someone who knew me.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I read the note. Who could be sending me such a mysterious message? And what did they want from me?

I looked around the room, feeling a sense of unease. I was alone in the apartment, and the guard was nowhere to be seen. I felt vulnerable and exposed.

Despite my reservations, I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity. Who was behind the note, and what did they want from me? I decided to take a chance and go to the meeting.

I waited until midnight, my heart racing with anticipation. I snuck out of the apartment, trying not to make a sound. The streets were deserted, and the only sound was the wind rustling through the trees.

I made my way to the old warehouse, my senses on high alert. As I approached the building, I saw a figure waiting for me in the shadows...

"So, before they increase in population, deceiving people and also brainwashing my citizens to start a war against me, I had to fish them out and do what has to be done."I looked at him, trying to see some signs of deceit or lies, but there were none. All I could see was the truth, which made me even more confused. Was it possible that the alpha was telling the truth, and that Ryder had indeed been a traitor? Or was the alpha just a skilled manipulator, able to make me believe whatever he wanted? He smiled, but it seemed forced."Oh, I sent him on a mission, but you don't need to bother yourself. He would be back soon," the alpha said.I raised an eyebrow, confused and at the same time scared. "What type of mission?" I wrote, looking confused. The alpha chuckled. "Come on, it's nothing much. He just went to secure our Eastern border," he said, but his tone seemed unconvincing.I narrowed my eyes, sensing that the alpha was hiding something. Securing the Eastern border sounded like a vague excuse, and I couldn't wrap the feeling that there was more to the story.I wrote another question on my notepad, "How long will he be gone?"The alpha's smile faltered for a moment before he regained his composure. "What did she say?" he asked, as I hung up the phone.I shook my head and said. "She wants me to drop the investigation into Sophia's activities. She says that Sophia is carrying my baby and that we can't afford to upset her."My guard eyes widened in shock. "But that's not true, is it?" he asked.
