Chapter 10

Aurora's pov 

"Is everything okay?" he asked, his voice low and calm. I was lost in thought, but he snapped his fingers in front of my face to get my attention. I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about the alpha's expression made me trust him. Maybe it was the kindness in his eyes, or maybe it was the way he seemed to genuinely care about my well-being.

I took a deep breath and decided to tell him the truth. But just as I was about to speak, he spoke again. "I understand you are still getting used to the city."

I breathed heavily in relief. It wasn't what I think I was expecting. I smiled back at him, trying to pretend everything was fine.

"So, in that case, how about you move around the city and try to get to know people?" the alpha asked.

I picked up my notepad from the bed and wrote, "I have already done that today, and your people are amazing and welcoming."

The alpha's face lit up with a smile. "Oh, really? Is that so? But tell me more about your experiences with them."

I wrote, "It wasn't everyone that was nice."

The alpha nodded understandingly. "I guess as much. You don't expect them to accept you like that. It takes time, judging from your condition. But you will love them. My people are lovely and are family."

I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards the alpha. I wrote, "But the good thing is, I met someone. One of your elders. She was really nice, and it was good talking to her."

The alpha's eyes lit up with curiosity. "Interesting. Which one?"

I wrote, "The one at the central market."

The alpha's face broke into a wide smile. "Oh, she is very nice. And you wouldn't believe it, but it was my late mother's friend. So, she is one of my trusted elders."

The alpha's expression turned regretful, and he seemed to be lost in thought for a moment. Then, he snapped back to attention and smiled at me.

"I'm glad you met her," he said. "She's a wonderful person. I'm sure she'll help you settle in and get to know the pack better."

I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards the alpha. He seemed genuinely interested in my well-being, and I found myself trusting him more and more.

The alpha stood up, his movements fluid and powerful. "I should get going," he said. "But I'll check in on you later, okay?"

I nodded, smiling, and the alpha smiled back at me. For a moment, I forgot about the danger and uncertainty that surrounded me, and I felt a sense of peace.

As the alpha left, I couldn't help but wonder what he would do if he found out about my pregnancy. Would he still be kind and understanding, or would he turn against me?

I pushed the thought aside and focused on the present moment. I had the alpha's trust, and I had the elder's support. For now, that was enough.

I lay down on my bed, feeling a sense of exhaustion. I closed my eyes, letting the softness of the bed envelop me, and drifted off to sleep.

It was the next morning already, and I wondered how long I had slept. It felt like just a blink of an eye, or maybe it was because I felt whole again, safe and secure.

I sat down on the bed, rubbing my tummy. Truly, the days were counting, and soon they would turn into months. My child would be brought into this world, and I had to have a plan in place for their arrival. Safety was guaranteed for both of us, but it wasn't the only thing my child needed. I couldn't allow the alpha to take care of me and my child, because he would know about my child. He might be welcoming now, because I had just entered the city, but it wouldn't last for long.

I stood up and went to grab my bag, searching it well and finding the money Nora had given me. "This should be enough for now to start something," I thought. "At least with this, I would be able to grow to some extent."

Just then, I heard a knock at my door. I walked over and opened it, finding the guard standing there.

"Good morning, ma," he said with a faded smile. "I just came to check on you and also ask if you would be going out today. You can just write it down, and I'll give you time to freshen up before coming to take you."

All I did was nod at him.

The guard nodded back and turned to leave. "I'll be back in an hour," he said. "If you need anything, just let me know."

I nodded again and closed the door behind him. I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of determination. I needed to start making plans for my future, and for the future of my child.

I walked over to the table and sat down, pulling out my notepad and pen. I began to write, making a list of all the things I needed to do. Find a way to support myself and my child. Find a safe place to live. Keep my pregnancy a secret from the alpha and the rest of the pack.

As I wrote, I felt a sense of clarity. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was determined to make a better life for myself and my child.

Just as I was finishing up my list, I heard a knock at the door. I got up to answer it, expecting it to be the guard again. But to my surprise, it was the elder from the market.

"Good morning, child," she said with a warm smile. "I hope I'm not disturbing you. I just wanted to check in and see how you're doing."

I smiled back at her, feeling a sense of gratitude. "I'm doing well, thank you," I wrote. "I appreciate your concern."

The elder nodded, her eyes twinkling with kindness. "I'm always here for you, child," she said. "Remember that."
