Chapter 5: Contract Luna

Evelyn’s POV

“B-buried alive?” Tristan cried, “What the hell are you talking about?!”

Leah sucked in a sharp breath and shrieked, “Don’t listen to her Tristan! She is crazy—”

“I didn’t mean to disappear!” I cut her off, “Your mistress forged your handwriting, lured me to the back hill, and buried me alive! If it weren’t for the heavy rain last night, I’d already be dead!”

“…What?” Tristan murmured.

All the elders gasped in shock, looking at Leah in horror.

A shadow flickered across Leah’s face before she burst into tears again:

“This is ridiculous! Tristan, you know I can’t even hurt a little bird. Evelyn… she’s clearly making this up!”

“We can go to the back hill right now! The pit you dug is still there!” I cried, my voice trembling. “And I still have the note from last night! Tristan, look at this! Did you write this?”

I pulled out the note and handed it to Tristan.

Leah struggled fiercely, desperately trying to stop me in a panic, but Tristan had already taken it.

“This is strange…” he muttered, looking at the note, confused. “I didn’t write anything like this.”

“Because Leah forged it! Wake up, Tristan! The woman standing next to you is a murderer!” I choked, struggling to continue, “And she told me that…I lost my unborn child because you put wolfsbane in my drink. Please…tell me that isn’t true, Tristan!”

Everyone’s eyes turned to Leah and Tristan, filled with doubt and fear.

Leah swayed on her feet. After a short silence, she let out a sob.

“…Why would you paint me like a heartless murder, Evelyn? Are you trying to get Tristan back to you? But he doesn’t love you anymore. Just let it go!” she sobbed with tears.

“This is not a lie—”

“You are the Luna. People will believe whatever you say about me…my life is ruined now… Maybe only death can prove my innocence!”

She suddenly dashed toward a pillar.

BANG!

She crashed into it, blood pouring from her head as she collapsed.

“LEAH!!” Tristan shouted, rushing to hold her.

She moaned and opened her tear-filled eyes, looking at him with sorrow. “Let me die, Tristan! That way, I can prove I’m not a murderer…”

“No one thinks you’re a murderer!” Tristan immediately said.

I gritted, “Crashing into a pillar won’t kill a werewolf! Don’t let her fool you again—”

“Enough!!!”

Tristan suddenly glared at me, his eyes filled with disappointment, “Leah wants to kill herself! Are you happy now? When do you become so heartless and cold?”

I looked at him in disbelief, “I’m cold? Are you serious?! She’s the one who killed my baby!”

Tristan growled, “You are crazy, Evelyn. I’m glad that baby wasn’t born! That way at least he won’t have a crazy woman as his mother!”

Cold disappointment overwhelmed me.

He admitted it.

My mate, my husband was glad that our child died.

An elder chimed in at this moment, “Luna Evelyn, since you’re back, you must pitch the project to Alpha Asher tonight. We need you!”

“You need me?” I let out a bitter laugh, “But I don’t need you anymore. I’m done with this pack, this project…everything.”

I turned to leave, heartbroken, my vision blurred by desperate tears.

“WAIT!”

Tristan abandoned Leah and rushed to grab my arm, “Where are you going?”

“Anywhere but here!” I said, trembling.

Tristan tightened his grip, “I really need you tonight. Please…stay.”

He looked at me intently, almost seemed that he still cared about me. And Leah was glaring at me as though she wanted to eat me alive.

“Please.” Tristan softened his voice, “Nobody can replace you.”

“I thought you want Leah to do it.”

Tristan replied without hesitation, “She’s not ready and will only make Alpha Asher angry. Leah agrees with me on this. Don’t you, Leah?”

Leah looked as though she wanted to smash something.

But slowly, she forced a fake smile and gritted, “I do. I still have a lot to learn from you, Evelyn.”

Having Leah admit that she’s not as good as me felt nice.

But I still didn’t want to help them.

What’s the point anyway? Tristan would still divorce me in the end and put Leah in charge. I would only be helping the enemy who killed my baby!

Just then, I felt the presence of a strong gaze behind my back.

I jerked around and saw Alpha Asher standing by the front door.

The grand chandelier painted his handsome profile with a golden hue. His soldiers surrounded him, blocking the other guests out. He looked like a mighty King assessable to no one.

His emerald eyes darkened when our eyes locked.

His gaze was dominant and straightforward, as if I were his prey, and he wanted to eat me alive.

My heartbeat quickened involuntarily.

“Luna Evelyn.”

He called my name in a deep, seductive voice and offered his hand to me, “Good to see you again.”

I quickly wiped my tears and took his hand.

“It’s been a long time, Alpha Asher.”

Our hands touched.

Suddenly, electricity shot through my body, nearly making me moan. I quickly bit my lips to stifle that. I even felt a tingling sensation between my legs.

“Can I have a word with you in private before the party begins?” he asked politely, unaware of the change of my body.

“Of course.” I quickly answered.

“Wait…” Tristan called behind my back unwillingly. He didn’t want me to leave with Asher.

But I ignored him and left in long strides.

Asher led me back to his suite and ordered the soldiers to close the door.

“Please sit.”

He sat on the sofa, gesturing to the seat across from him.

I walked over and sat down. His enticing scent filled my nostrils, making my body heat up. I quickly pressed my legs together.

This feeling was so strange… I almost wanted to run away.

“What do you want to talk about, Alpha Asher?” I cleared my throat, trying to maintain my composure. “Sorry about my absence this afternoon. I can explain—”

“It’s not about that.”

He pulled out a document and slid it across the table to me, his eyes still locked on mine.

Again, that intense, possessive gaze.

“This is a contract,” he said. “I want you to be my contract Luna for a year after your divorce from Tristan.”
