Regan’s POV.

It was a little humiliating to know that I might have to get Lena’s ‘permission’ in the future in other to spend time with her dearest friend.

It was clear to see that Lena enjoyed having me ask for her permission.

Lena was like my little sister.

And I suddenly felt like I was in a relationship with my little sister’s dearest friend.

We walked peacefully around the familiar environment of the pack, knowing that we would barely come across anyone else since almost everyone was at the pack house for the evening meal.

Even though it was dark out, the full Moon gave a soft glow of light to illuminate out path and the cool breeze simply meant I could hold her closer.

I led her towards the edge of the pack, just outside the woods, knowing that no one, no matter how much they tried, would overhear whatever conversation we were about to have.

“Will tell me something about yourself now?” I asked, after a while.

She looked up at me with a beautiful smile.

“You have never been curious about me before”, she observed.

“Well, I did not want to believe I had feelings for you before”, I said with a teasing smile that made her laugh softly.

She turned back to the path ahead of us.

“What did you wish to know?” She asked.

“Everything”, I answered almost immediately and she gave me a smile.

“Well”, she began. “You already know my name”, she jested before going on. “I don’t remember much about my childhood but I know that I was born in the West”, she said.

I turned to look at her in surprise.

“You were born in the West?” I repeated in surprise.

She nodded.

“I remember that”, she said. “We lived in a small cabin in the woods. Me and my parents”, she told me as I tried not to think too much on her revelation yet.

I could ponder on it later.

“My father would shift to hunt for our meals and my mother would…” she suddenly trailed off and came to a stop.

I watched her struggle for a moment before she confided.

“I cannot remember what my mother did”, she said with a laugh of self mockery.

I pulled her into my arms when I saw her eyes begin to glisten with tears.

“I cannot remember what my mother did”, she repeated.

“There is no need to feel bad about that, my dear”, I told her. “I’m certain you have fond memories of her”, I said in an attempt to lighten her mood.

“That is just the thing”, she said as I released her. “I do remember her, but only in my dreams” she said. “I have dreams that I am not sure are dreams. I believe they are memories of my time with them. But each time they come, they turn into nightmares and I do not wish to believe that such horrible things actually happened”, she said.

I ran my hand up and down her arms when she shivered at the thought of her dreams.

“If you do not wish to think about it”, I said. “Why don’t you tell me of something else?” I suggested. “You could tell me something not much people know about you”.

She looked up at me with the uncertainty plain to see and I cursed myself for having to put her in such an uncomfortable situation.

But I had to know.

If what Nana said was to be believed and there might be a possibility that she midget ever be in danger, I needed to know all I could do I could help her in every way possible.

So I had to know.

“Well”, she said hesitantly and looked down. “I have a birthmark across my back that is more of a scar than a birthmark”, she said and immediately added. “I cannot show you now but maybe I will someday, sometime in the future”, she said as if afraid that I would get her to reveal it to me.

I smiled at her, lifting a hand to tuck away strands of hair that fell across her face back in place behind her ear.

“I will never make you do anything you’re not willing or ready to do”, I promised. “You have my word on that”.

She smiled at me and surprisingly leaned upwards on her toes to place a kiss beneath my jaw.

I stiffened momentarily in shock as she leaned back.

She had never once initiated any physical contact we had and though I was more than happy to initiate them, it pleased me that she was becoming bold enough to do so.

“Shall we continue our stroll?” She asked and I nodded wordlessly.

She took me hand as we resumed her stroll and I wrapped my much larger hand around her small one.

“If I am being completely honest”, she said as we walked. “The only fond memories I have that I can remember are the ones I made after coming here”, she said. “I have a lot of happy memories here”, she said.

But when I turned to look at her, she wasn’t smiling. Instead, the same worried expression I had seen earlier had once again made an appearance.

I pulled us both to a stop.

“I will never force you to share your thoughts when you do not wish to”, I told her, looking into her beautiful eyes to let her know how much I meant every word. “But I wish that you would trust me with your worries”, I said.

I watched as she thought about it before looking away from me.

“It is not something I should worry about”, she said.

“Yet it is clear that it worries you”, I told her before lifting a hand to take her chin and turn her face back to mine. “Tell me”, I urged.

“I am worried”, she said. “That not everyone in the pack approves of our relationship”, she finally confided.

I felt a frown pull my eyebrows together.

She was worried that my pack did not approve of us?

“Why does it worry you?” I asked and she looked away once more.

I had noticed she did that a lot when she did not want to disclose something.

I turned her gaze back to mine.

“Why does it worry you?” I repeated firm, needing to know.

“Because”, she began, her voice trailing into a whisper with every word she spoke. “I can see it in their eyes that they do not believe I deserve you”, she said. “And I know it too”, she said and let her eyes fall as she continued. “You are an Alpha of one of the most powerful packs here in the East. You are respected and feared. It is only good that whatever she-wolf you have at your side, however temporary, live up to who you are. Or has a wolf at the very least”, she finishes with self depreciating smile that had Rage growling in anger.

It was his anger that made me realize that I was angry as well.

Before I could accidentally hurt her, I took my hand off her and moved away to put a good distance between us.

She watched me move away with an expression that was a mixture of hurt and confusion before her expression settled into acceptance.

It only made me more angry.

It angered me that she thought that way. That she believed she did not deserve me and it took everything in me to restrain myself from walking over and shaking such thoughts out of her.

Instead I settled for standing where I was with my fists clenched tightly at my sides as I spoke.

“Look at me”, I ordered. “I knew I sounded harsh but I needed her to understand how serious the words I wanted to say were.

She looked at me, a hint of fear that she tried to hide from me visible for me to see.

“Listen to me carefully”, I told her. “I will not repeat myself”, when I was sure she was focused on what I wanted to say, I continued. “I want you”, I said. “I have never wanted anyone as much as I want you. I love to catch glimpses of you, to bask in the glow of your smile and drown in the fragrance of your scent. I live for the softness of your skin and the perfection of your body that I now have no doubt that the Moon Goddess made for me”. As she stood in shock, I continued, now taking steps towards her. “This is not temporary”, I said, correcting her earlier statement. “It is my greatest mistake to have not made you understand that. That from the moment I touched you, you were no longer someone casual. That from the moment I kissed you”, I said approached her and punctuating my words with each step I took towards her. “You. Were. Mine”, I said.

A gasp escaped her but I didn’t care. She had to understand.

“I said nothing before because I didn’t wish to scare you”, I continued. “But I need you to understand. You are mine, Jasmine. And I will rip apart anyone, limb by limb, if anyone tries to take you from me”.

I brought my hand to her cheek and softly caressed it even as she remained frozen.

“I do not care what anyone had to say, my pack or otherwise”, I told her. “Anyone that has a problem with us being together can come to my and I will be glad to answer them”, I said with a sinister smile as Rage brought an image of us ripping them apart to my mind. “I will never let you go. Not unless you want me too”, I lied. I wouldn’t let her go even if she wanted me to.

“This is not something temporary. I want you to be my mate”, I allowed that sink in before asking. “Do you know why?”

She could not respond.

It seemed she could not recover from her shock long enough for her to nod or shake her head. So, I simply answered my question.

“Because, aside from the simple fact that I cannot imagine my life without you”, I said. “You are beautiful, and kind and so special even if it is clear to see that you do not believe it”, I told her. “You are loving and so pure that I want to shield you from everything that could taint you”.

I took her face in my hands.

“I know you do not believe me when I say this. But it is I who do not deserve you”, I said as her eyes turned misty and tears began to escape them. “You are more than you know”, I said. “And I would be the luckiest werewolf to have ever lived, if you would agree to be my mate”.

At that, she burst into tears.

I pulled her into my arms as she sobbed, wondering if I had taken it too far.

Perhaps I could have waited on telling her I wanted her to be my mate. It had probably been too much for her.

It was just that I could not bear to let her think she was unworthy or undeserving of only the most wonderful things life could offer.

Although her telling me about her family being from the West brought up concerns within me, I pushed aside the thought to cater to her at the moment.

Since only very few werewolves resided in the West, it was common knowledge that the werewolves of the West often had witchcraft powers since the West was where the witches resides and some witches had affairs with werewolves that resulted in their werewolf offsprings being half witches and possessing such abilities.

If indeed she had been born in the West, perhaps Nana had been right and one or both of her parents had put a containment spell on her to protect her.

The only question that still raised the hair on the back of my head was simple.

From what?

But I decided to think about that later as I pulled her tighter into my arms and planted kisses on the top of her soft hair.

And despite the fact that some of the pack members had openly accepted, even going as far as coming to congratulate me, it didn’t reduce the heat from the glares I could constantly feel directed at me whence I walked into a room. But I had Lena who was determined to shoot daggers at everyone who so much as looked at me in any way she didn’t like. Knowing I had her undeniable support was a big help. Especially since I had decided to quit being sorry for myself or seeing myself as weak. Regan’s POV Even though I did not like the idea of Jasmine training with anyone other than me, I had to admit that if there was anyone else I would ever allow train my future mate on the art of defense, then it was Luke. Her training had begun immediately. Lena was insistent that Jasmine started as soon as possible since we did not know how long it would take for her to learn combat in her human form. Luke came up with the idea of training her in secret, and since it was obvious how much she loved the sanctuary, we decided that it would be the perfect place for her to train. Luke complained and mumbled about having more work to do now that he would have to train my future mate that I had been left with no other choice than to reduce his previous work load. He had been so grateful that he had immediately decided to take a ‘much needed nap’ right there in the sanctuary and proceeded to resume his usual position. Luke had also insisted to have their training sessions at daw

Jasmine’s POV Lena had told me all about the coming of age ceremony. It was supposedly the night where the young pack members shifted for the first time. I had seen Luke training them so that they could endure the pain from shifting for the first time. Surprisingly, I had seen Regan as well. Even though Regan was much loved by his pack, there had always seemed like there was a distance he put between them and himself. He hardly ever related with any other pack members other than his family, Mari and his Gamma. Everyone else was dealt with from arm’s length. So it was a great surprise indeed to see him with a particular young werewolf time and time again. Whenever I passed by the field, I always caught sight of him and the young one, training. What surprised me other than the fact that he was personally training that particular young werewolf away from the rest of his friends and mates, was how much Regan smiled around the young one. I had seen him sever

Regan’s POV As Jasmine had said, I knew Emry would need me for his first shift. And since it was the day of the full moon, it meant that the ceremony would hold that night. I hadn’t seen him all day. Which was unusual since the pup barely ever left my side ever since we began our trainings. I had just finished my work for the day and was making my way over to the healing house, where I was sure Jasmine would be, when the thought of him suddenly came to mind. I had missed her all day and wanted nothing more than to see her, take her into my arms and bury my face into her neck to inhale her addicting scent. But I had not seen Emry all day and that worried me. So rather than go to find my future mate and satisfy my longing, I turned around instead to find the pup. I caught his scent easily and began to track it. It led me towards the woods not to far from the pack’s farm lands and I followed it to the outskirts of the pack, where the stream was, and finally to one of th

Jasmine’s POV While the ceremony took place, I was with Nana, Lena and a few other she-wolves helping set up places for the newly shifted werewolves for when they returned from their first hunt. Since I was indoors during the ceremony, something I knew for certain was planned by Regan to keep me out of any possible harm’s way, I watched the proceedings from one of the widows of the pack house not too far away. I had gone to the stream that morning with Lena to take a cool bath after my morning session with Luke. And even though I was sore all over, it was nothing compared to the pain I had experienced when I had started. It was now a feeling I welcomed in fact. I handed over the pile of black and red robes that the newly shifted werewolves were to change into when they returned from the hunt to one of the young she-wolves working with us. Her brother was one of the newly shifted werewolves and she had been noticeably anxious about his return. “It will all be fine, Amy”

Regan’s POV We returned to the pack from the hunt. A successful hunt. While we had caught a very big deer, the other warriors had caught other smaller animals. When we returned, we went down to the stream first to wash ourselves clean of the blood and dirt gotten from the hunt. Then we made our way to the back of the pack house where a large area was set up with tables and chairs in order to have a celebratory feast under the full moon. The newly shifted werewolves were given their new robes of black and red to change into before they went back to their respective families. I watched as Emry went over to meet his mother and a calm looking girl I guessed to be his sister, judging from the color of their dark hair. Seeing how happy they seemed for him, I turned away to look for the person I was most eager to see. My eyes finally found her to see her eyes already on me, watching me with a smile. Jasmine’s POV I have always wished I could read minds. Not for any particular reason other than to know what others were thinking sometimes. I hadn’t seen Sooni since our encounter in the pack house at the coming of age ceremony and when I had asked Lena, she had simply shrugged and said. “It’s better that you do not know”. That had done nothing to ease my curiosity but I knew better than to ask again. However, the topic everyone had started to ask about and discuss was my mating ceremony to the Alpha. Shortly after the incident with Sooni, Nana had started to insist the we pick a day for our mating ceremony and so, left with very little choice on the matter, we had. Regan had insisted on me choosing the day, saying that if I wanted to become his mate the very next moment, it would still be perfect for him. So, I had talked with Lena and we had finally decided on a date for the mating ceremony to take place. After announcing the date, I had barely heard any sentenc

Jasmine’s POV I and Lena had finally spoken. We talked late into the night and eventually fell asleep around the late hours of the morning. Regan had not returned and I knew it was because he knew that Lena and I needed each other. It was another reason why I loved him. He was very thoughtful and always put my needs before his. When Lena and I woke up the next morning, we held each other for a while before leaving the bed to go about our daily routines. Lena returned to her room and I washed us before Regan returned. When he finally did, he knocked once in the door to let me know he was coming in before pushing the door open and entering into our room. I took one look at his face and knew that something had happened. “What has happened?” I asked, making my way over to him and taking his hand. He simply shook his head, a sad look on his face that worried me. I pulled him over to the bed and gently pushed him to sit, before taking my place beside him. “Please,

Regan’s POV I spent the night in my study after leaving Lena and Jasmine in my room together. It was clear to see that what they both needed at the moment was each other so I let them be. When I went up later to check on them, I could hear them talking quietly from where I stood outside the room and figured I would just let Lena spend the night with my mate. After all, she had been the one to save her life. Ever since she had woken up from her unconsciousness at the healing house, I had found it impossible to ask her what had happened. Partly because I could clearly see that she did not wish to speak to me about it. That was why I was glad she had Lena. That they both had each other in fact. The second reason I had not asked was because a part of me did not want to know just how deeply I had failed her since I knew that it had been my fault she had gone to the stream in the first place. I had thrown a ridiculously jealous fit simply because she had teased me. She h

Jasmine’s POV The darkness that surrounded me was familiar. I knew for certain that I had, not for the first nor second time, passed out once again. However, this time was different. As I gained consciousness, the first thing I noticed was the pain in my head. It wasn’t so bad that it was unbearable, but it was quite easy to notice. I tried to observe if I could feel pain anywhere else on my body but other than the ache in my head, I felt completely fine. Slowly, I opened my eyes, blinking at the brightness from the windows that illuminated the room I laid in. I was in a strange room, although something about the room looked familiar. Slowly, I moved my head to the side to see that the room was indeed familiar. I was in one of the rooms in the healing house. I looked towards my other side to see my mate still asleep, holding onto my hand with both of his. A smile pulled at my lips as I watched his handsome face while he slept. It was my first time seeing hi

Regan’s POV I could hardly recall the times in my life that I felt fear. The one that stood out the most was the terrible memory I shared alongside my pack on the day of the massacre when I was younger. Ever since then, I could barely recall a time when I felt afraid. After all, I was Alpha. But the second I had heard Lena’s shaky voice mind link me and simply caught the words ‘Jasmine’ and ‘attacked’ in the same sentence, I had once again felt the icy hands of fear claw down my spine as they had only done once before. I had been on a run with Rage and had just settled down under the tree in his sanctuary when Lena had mind linked me. Since I was still in my wolf form, I ran as fast as could towards the pack house. As soon as I approached the clearing just outside the woods, I saw Luke already standing there with a small pile of clothes in his hands. He said nothing, his face completely devoid of emotion. Something I knew for certain did whenever he was worried. De

Jasmine’s POV When I woke up from my exhausted sleep, it was already dark outside. I felt sated and spent. Completely and utterly satisfied and unable to move due to how comfortable and exhausted I was. I turned to the other side of the bed to find it empty once again. Once again, I had woken up alone in our bed. However, I was too tired to think deeper on what that could mean. Regan had explored every inch and dip of my body and had brought me to heights I had never known existed time and time again. I had lost count of how many times I had cried out his name as I ascended new heights. I had never imagined that anything would have felt like that. And if that had felt incredible, I wondered what fully mating with him would be like. I felt a blush heat my cheeks as the memory of earlier in the day flooded through my mind. Before I could think on it further, I heard the door to our room crack open to reveal my mate. He came in with a tray filled with food and

Regan’s POV I knew exactly what she was doing. And I only knew because I knew who exactly would advise her to act like that. Jasmine had started to avoid me. And rightly so. I knew I had not behaved too well. But I didn’t deserve to be avoided and ignored. The reason I knew the game she was playing was because I knew the person who invented it. Nana. And since Lena was quite similar to Nana In almost every way, I could only conclude that she had been the one to insist my mate start treating me in the manner she was. But her avoiding me made me realize the error of my ways. I had always told Lena to never allow a mate treat her in an undeserving or disrespectful manner. I had taught her to know her worth and not stand to receive anything less. So if Lena was advising my mate to act in that manner, it simple meant that she believed I had not treated my mate as well as I ought to have, and it made me feel guilty, sad and ashamed. I should have just explained to h

I looked around at the room I was in. I had never been in his room before and I took a deep breath to inhale the masculine scent that was all him. The room was masculine and practical with only the essentials needed. It would have been completely masculine if it wasn’t for the few of my things that now occupied a space in the room. I stood up from the bed to further inspect the room. Noticing the designs and furnitures in the large space. It was three times the size of my own room. Or former room rather. I went to what looked to be the wash room, realizing that I was right when I pushed the door to the space open. Seeing some of my things already there, I decided to wash up and make my way to the Lena’s room as I did each day. I knocked once on her door before pushi

Regan’s POV The mating ceremony passed by in a blur. I could barely pay attention to anything else that happened and I honestly did not care. My entire being was simply ensnared by the beauty that was my mate. She was beautiful. More beautiful than I had ever seen her before and Rage howled with pride that she was now ours. The thought of someone else having Jasmine as their mate made me want to go on a rampage. She had on her ceremonial dress and her hair was styled perfectly. She was perfection and I could barely take my eyes off her. “You will burn a hole through her if you keep staring at her like that”, Luke said from where he was seated to my left. The truth was, I could not help it. “Be quiet”, I told him, absent minded as I continued to stare at her. “If I had known you would behave like this, I would have helped her escape”, I heard him say and whipped my head around so fast that he moved away. “What did you say?” I asked, Rage already growling in

Regan’s POV It was the day of my mating ceremony and I had been informed that Luke had disappeared with my mate to be for a while. Of course I knew it was due to her training sessions but other than Nana and Lena, no one else had any knowledge about that. I had noticed that Jasmine and Luke had grown closer. It was clear as day to see. Luke had even gone as far as calling her by a new name he had coined from her name. I had known him all his life and had yet to get the same treatment. It caused Rage to growl in jealousy each time we heard him call her ‘Jazzie’. Partly because we had not thought to do something like that, but also because it showed just how close they had become. However, seeing the smile on Jasmine’s face each time Luke called her that was enough to make me endure the annoyance and jealousy it brought. I was anxious for some reason. One reason if I was being honest. And that reason was simple. ‘What if Jasmine changed her mind?’ That though
