“Oh really? I was curious since you both looked perfect so I came here and asked,” Gin laughed. His words made me want to throw a punch on his face. What an excuse.
“I see. Is she your wife too?” June pointed at me, hiding in the cloth. I buried my face harder on Gin’s chest, trying to hide my wet eyes. I wiped it using the cloth that I hung around my head.
“Probably.” Gin’s voice almost sounded like he’s angry but maybe I just didn’t hear it correctly. His grip on my shoulder tightened even more but not to the point where it hurts.
After wiping the tears of the sudden shock, I looked at them again. The girl was just sitting quietly. Her long brown hair was covering her face and she’s crouching so it’s hard to see most of her features but I saw some bruises on her wrist.
“Oh.” June laughed at Gin’s remarks. He then tapped the shoulder of his wife, “Say hello,” Said June.
Like a doll, she turned her head to look at us and I was shocked to see a huge scar on her face. It looks likes it was burned. My heart dropped. What happened to her? By the looks of it, she’s in very bad condition. I can see her twitching every time she tries to make an expression or move something on her face.
“H-hello.” She awkwardly bowed.
“What happened to her face?” Gin asked after greeting back the girl. I really can’t see his face properly and he’s still holding my shoulder and gripping me to lean on him. This is weird but I can’t say anything! June will find out about me if I’d speak now.
I still need June to squeeze in some information about Navia.
“Just an accident.” He answered us with an innocent look.
I tugged the end of Gin’s polo shirt and tiptoed to reach his ears.
“Let’s go,” I whispered. He looked at me and then at June then back at me again.
“Why?” He whispered back.
I furrowed my eyebrows on him even though he can’t see it since the only thing visible on my face are my eyes, “I’ll kill you.” I gritted my teeth while whispering again to him.
He smirked at me before looking back at the couple sitting in front of us, “We’ll go first. My wife still needs to attend something,” Uttered Gin.
“Oh really? It was nice talking to you, I hope we’ll get to see each other again soon.”
I groaned in annoyance. Soon my ass. I wish I’ll never see you again. If only you’re useless then I would throw you away immediately after going back in time.
When Gin and I finally got outside and walked away from the restaurant, we sat on one of the benches behind the big tree where we can also see a lake. And again, we have this awkward silence between us.
“Why’d you let him do that to you?” ?” Gin broke the silence with that question.
“What?”
“June.”
I shrugged as an answer. What would be the best explanation from the ‘lovesick’ puppy like me? But the most important thing of all, June has a wife? Since when? How? Argh. Thinking about it makes my head hurt and maybe, my heart too.
“Don’t you love him?” I can feel his intent stare burning in my bare skin.
“I…. Don’t know.” I honestly stated and hugged my knees. It’s a good thing that I’m wearing a jogger and a t-shirt I’ve never worn before since being in a relationship with June made me want to impress him all the time so I dress myself up like a pretty Barbie doll.
“Well then, just break up,” Said Gin in a cold tone. I looked at him this time and our eyes met, his right brow raised while having an expression of disappointment. I giggled.
“You’re not supposed to care you know, Mr Gentleman.” I teased.
“There’s no rule in the contract about that.”
“What?”
“I can care if I want to.”
I can feel my face heating up. I know he doesn’t mean anything about that but still, it was an unexpected answer from him. I don’t know what to say next so I just looked away and stared at the peaceful lake in front of us.
This place will be swarmed with people at weekends so I’m glad today is Tuesday. It’s relaxing when it’s peaceful like this. My past life almost feels like a fever dream. Sometimes the thought that maybe that was just some nightmare always crossed my mind but witnessing things happen again pulls my thoughts back to reality.
“Does it hurt?” He asked again in a very serious tone.
“Kind of.” I honestly answered. It’s true. But the feeling of getting betrayed was far greater than the love I am feeling. I remembered the sick expression he have when he pushed me off the rooftop and how he shows no remorse after. That scene was engraved in my head and my heart.
“Will you be taking revenge then?”
“You ask a lot of questions.” I rolled my eyes and tucked some hair behind my ear. I heard him chuckle.
“You want to learn from me to take revenge right?” He muttered in a low tone.
“I- No.” I stuttered. How the hell did he come up with that thought? I mean I know he’s smart but I didn’t think he was this ‘smart’ to connect the dots.
“Your face says otherwise.”
“Stop talking.”
“I was right, am I?”
I flipped my hair, “Nonsense.”
“You don’t need to deny it.”
Psh. I stood up and turned to look at him who is still sitting, “Stop getting curious and know your boundaries.” I pointed at him while glaring before walking away as fast as I could.
When I got in my service car not too far from where I was, I remembered June. I still don’t know what to do. The thought that he has a wife and kept it a secret all this time irked me. But according to him, he was single all this time. How the hell did he get a wife? Is he so good at hiding things that he completely went through the hole of the needle? It hurts to even think about it.
“Going home, ma’am?” The driver gently spoke. I smiled at him and nodded.
“Manong, what would you do if someone you like has a lover?” (‘Manong’ is a term used in the Philippines that most people call to stranger older men) I blurted out of the blue while the engine starts. He looks at me using the rearview mirror and smiles.
“I’d probably stop if I knew I wasn’t the first.” He answered.
I sighed. Ah, whatever! Enough of June, I still need to deal with the upcoming drama later. I looked at my wristwatch and smiled. It’s a perfect time to go home and watch Navia’s little performance.
“I-I saw Miss Freya going into your room…”I scratched my ears as I listen to their nonsense story. The same thing happened before. My dumb self was framed and no one believed except for Navia who acted like a savior right in front of me. Well, now that I know this, I prepared a little bomb to drop for them.“What?” My grandma raised her voice, “Are you implying that my apo is the culprit?” (‘Apo’ is the Tagalog of ‘grandchild’) Her angry voice boomed and I saw how the maid’s hands shook in fear. I almost smirked but I kept it in. If it was in the past, I would cry immediately and deny things and that made everything worst. So right now, I’ll let my grandma handle this.“N-no, ma’am.” I can hear the maid’s sniffs. Poor girl. Bribed by the money of evil, now she’s in that situation.“My goodness!” Grandma t
“What the hell are you doing here?” I half-shouted at the man climbing towards my window. When he finally gets inside my room, I smacked his head.“Harsh.” He groaned but then laugh after. He faced me and waved a brown envelope in front of my face.“What’s that?”“Your weapon.”I scoff at his response. What? A weapon? Did he bring in some lethal things so I could get my revenge?“Are you stupid?” I glared at him. If looks could kill, he’d probably be dead by now.He shrugged and handed me the envelope, “Look at it,” Said Gin and sat on my bed as if nothing happened.“I’ll look at it after you tell me what the hell and how did you get in here?” I put my right hand on my waist and raised an eyebrow at him.“I sneak in of course.” He laid on the bed comfortably and closed his eyes, “It was a little difficult hone
“M – Marry?” I almost shouted in shock. This guy is making a deal by getting us tied? “Yes." His tone of boredom made me more nervous. This guy is something else. How could he talk about marriage like it's no joke? "Ah, seriously." I closed my eyes and calmed myself first. He's so annoying! How can a person be like this? Even the sound of his breathing annoys the hell out of me! “Think about it, pretty lady. Use that head of yours.” He rise up and went to my window, “I’ll get your answer next time we meet.” He winks and opens it. My eyes went wide when he just jumped off without hesitation. I quickly ran to see his state. I know that my room is located on the second floor and it’s not that high but still it can cause certain injuries if you jumped from this floor. “Are you crazy?!” I mouthed at the guy who’s standing like he didn’t just jump from a high place. He waved his hands at me and turned his back around before starting to run. That guy!
I was waiting for the painful impact but I felt none after a while. So I slowly opened my eyes to see my condition, maybe it’s a miracle that I can still walk or use one of my hands after this. I’ll surely find out who pushed me off!“You okay?” An unfamiliar voice caught me off guard. I look up to see blinding blonde hair and shining blue eyes.Who’s this?“Who’re you?” I raised my eyebrow instinctively. He looks like an American and I’ve never seen this man before. Not in my past nor in my current memories.“I’ll tell you once you get off.”I gasped when I finally assisted what situation I’m in. Basically, when I fell, this guy out of nowhere appeared and saved me like a knight. He has fast reflexes, I suppose. But who’s he?I quickly escaped away from his embrace, even if I was struggling in shock, he made sure to let go of me slowly and gently. I couldn&r
"Good morning, lady. You’re even shining today though you’ve always been this bright,” He cheered.“Please be quiet, I can’t even hear myself losing the will to live,” I groaned. This man can’t be serious. Why is he here, early in the morning? And what’s with the introduction of being my fiancée? He’s making my head hurt more.“As a proper fiancée, I need to make sure my future wife had a good sleep.” He raised his shoulders, offering me his assistance. Of course, I hesitated at first but I accepted it anyway.“Accepting that means you said yes to my offer?” He sneered which made me roll my eyes and almost retrieved my hands away from his grip but the hands that snaked around his shoulders were sandwiched even more. I frowned.“No, take backs.”“What are you, a child?”“Probably, if you want me to.”I realize
“What the hell, Freya?” The angry voice from June roared. I saw the sky outside getting gloomy, it feels like a sign that today will be another stress in a cup. “June,” I called his name once again. His eyes drifted down at my hands that were holding Gin’s wrist. I can see how it angered him more. He openly gritted his teeth so hard that I saw his jaw move. I let Gin go and gave him a knowing look. I need him to stay out of sight for a bit so things wouldn’t get messy. “Alright,” He backed up. June took wide steps to reach where I stood. He even tried to grab Gin who’s walking towards Navia and Van but I immediately stopped him by snatching the hem of his white polo t-shirt. “Let’s talk.” June’s expression softened when we met eyes. “Freya.” Now that we’re standing close, I can see how pale he is. His breath is shaky and heavy. I grabbed his hands and guided him to the place where I should’ve brou
Hearing his word made me realize how much of an asshole he really is. He’s not the June I imagined him to be. I was so blinded by love that even his flaws became perfect to me and I ignored the red flags before thinking that he’s just an imperfect human being that loves me too. I went on my knees to look at June’s eyes. “You’re not the man I love.” “After a year you’re going to have a change of heart? We promise each other!” He cried out. “You probably love me because of my money, right?” “Freya, t-that’s not it! I love you, honestly-“ A slap landed on his face again. “Leave,” I stood up, “You’re not welcome here or in my life anymore.” With that, I opened the door and went outside. I waited for him to get out before closing it. “Freya…” He called lovingly. It made my heart sting in pain again. How could he sound so sweet despite the things he has done? I want to shout at him. To question him why he pushed
“Have you ever considered talking to birds?”“What? Are you stupid?”Gin chuckled after hearing my statement. How can he make such a stupid question every time we see each other?“Shut up and start acting your age, alright?” I whispered back to him when we finally sat at the table. It’s been a week since those incidents happened. That week made me feel hell for a bit. Yesterday, my dad and my grandma came back from the business trip they had gone through. Days have passed. I don't know what to do since I've witness a lot of things I didn't remember in the past. I've been trying to connect a lot of things to figure out what to do next.I'm no stupid enough to depend on my memories of my last life, but atleast it will be a basis of my next moves.Surprisingly Navia didn't do anything at the moment. It's a little scary because even her moves are now different.Right now, I'm contemplating life alone in my room. Father is at work, my grandmother somehow wanted to visit the orphanage that she grew up with and Navia went out with Van.I don't want to doubt my memories but...What if everything was just a dream? What if it really didn't happen? Cause it's the only right reason for these things. It makes my heart throb. It makes my heart also drop down my gut. The feeling is heavy. What if it's all in my head? That Navia hated me? And what if June really did love me?Wait — Scratch that jerk. He lied about being married.I jolted up when I re
“A date? Did you hit your head or something?” I asked in disbelief. He chuckled. “Come on, you're acting as if I'm not a sweet person.” He turned in a corner. “Plus, we're a team. I need to know the whole plan, your enemies, your doubts,” he continued.I crossed my arms in my chest and stared blankly at the man driving while wearing a smug look. “Why so?” I questioned his skanky ass. For some reason, he's a little more energetic today. “Stop pouting.” He reached out and pinched my nose gently. I slapped his hands away and glared but he just laughed and shrugged it off.I rolled my eyes, looks at the window and sighed. Should I continue entertaining my hatred towards my sister and my ex-boyfriend who killed me in the past? The thing is, they're different now and it's understandable since I'm the only one who knows what happened. But... the things that are occurring is making me falter. It's obviously not the same before. Sure there are other similar things t
“A-Aw – hey, watch it, man!” Gin lets Van go soon after he shoves him inside the car. I just shook my head in disbelief and at how much noise they are.“Let’s go.” My reflexes went ahead of me. When Gin was about to grab my hands, I quickly flinched away.I have no idea why I did that, but I guess it's because of my reflexes and how stress is throwing me under the bus this past few days.I mean, who would be relaxed after everything that happened?Gin looked surprise at my reaction but I just smiled awkwardly. Sure, I was in denial about it two days ago. I honestly have a little resentment towards him, and I feel a little bit awkward. My feelings can’t help it since I was betrayed by the people I thought loved me dearly. It’s a trauma response.“Are you angry?” His voice sounded worried.I shook my head. "No, just a little tired.” Then J leaned on the car seat and sighed deeply. I haven't started with my plan yet, but
Those days passed by like nothing had happened. The death of a stranger seems meaningless. I waited for a family, at least, to show up and claim her body at the morgue, and no one came. When we buried her body, not even the other maids who claimed to know her attended, it was just me, Gin, and dad. It’s been three days ever since I’ve confronted Navia, too, and just yesterday, I found out that she’s no longer staying in the house because she’s starting a business. I have no idea what is it, even my father. On the other hand, my grandmother is busy handling the company affairs since this month is a rush sale.“You’re pouting again.” Gin’s voice knocked my senses, “You okay?”“What do you think?” I sarcastically bite back.“I think she’s far from that.” The blonde freak sitting on the back of the car squished in.I rolled my eyes. I completely forgot about his e
The police asked the father to come with them for interrogation, and Gin insisted on coming along with my father. At first, my dad complained, but he couldn’t argue with Gin, who seemed determined. The police also asked for assistance for Navia and me, but my father intruded and said we were too shocked and left us for another day, to which the police agreed immediately. It was not a surprise since my father is influential enough to sway this case. I hope nothing worse will happen.I paced back and forth in my room. The last words of that strange maid echoed on my mind.Everyone in the house gossiped about the sudden death of that maid. Everywhere I go, I always hear what happened, and it can’t get off my mind. I can’t even calm down a little bit. I was sweating all over my body while that creepy voice of the maid played like a song on loop on my head.Someone knows something about my past self. Why are they after me? Why is it that they intend
