"Good morning, lady. You’re even shining today though you’ve always been this bright,” He cheered.
“Please be quiet, I can’t even hear myself losing the will to live,” I groaned. This man can’t be serious. Why is he here, early in the morning? And what’s with the introduction of being my fiancée? He’s making my head hurt more.
“As a proper fiancée, I need to make sure my future wife had a good sleep.” He raised his shoulders, offering me his assistance. Of course, I hesitated at first but I accepted it anyway.
“Accepting that means you said yes to my offer?” He sneered which made me roll my eyes and almost retrieved my hands away from his grip but the hands that snaked around his shoulders were sandwiched even more. I frowned.
“No, take backs.”
“What are you, a child?”
“Probably, if you want me to.”
I realized that I cannot win a conversation with this man. Starting one with him is a suicidal move. He’s annoying but I know I can’t get rid of him.
The walk towards the dining room was awfully quiet but I didn’t mind it since I needed this, to begin with. When we entered the place, I saw the strange blonde guy and my sister sitting together. I was confused to see the empty seats where my grandmother and father usually seats. What day is it today?
“Good morning.” The first one who greeted me was the stranger who happened to save my life yesterday night.
Navia didn’t even glance at my side. I felt sour. Why is she acting so different with this man around? What’s their relationship? I thought Navia loves June?
“Ah, I forgot to introduce myself properly.” The young blonde man broke the awkward silence between the four of us, “As you can see, I’m Van and I’m here to –“
“He’s here for our marriage.” Navia’s words cut off Van’s.
I was startled by the sudden revelation that I dropped the fork I was holding. It made a clanging noise that echoed in the room.
“M-Marriage?” The word didn’t almost come out of my mouth. My throat went dry.
This never happened before. The events are getting more and more out of hand.
“Yes.” Today, Navia’s voice sounds dull, like she’s drained and tired. Her expression is the total opposite of last night. The way she talks and moves is strange.
“Well enough about us, how about that man? What’s he here for?” Van asked using his mouth to point Gin who’s calmly sitting right beside me. When he noticed that it was his turn to introduce himself, he let out a small chuckle and held my hand that was lying free on the huge white wooden table.
“I’m her fiancée,” He phrase sweetly that even I almost believed those words were true.
“Your fiancée?” Navia’s eyes went straight in my direction. Her expression is unreadable. I cannot say whether she’s displeased or shocked or joyous.
What’s on your mind, Navia?
“Dad would be surprised,” She murmured but the surroundings were too quiet that they reached my ears. Then she smiled at me, that kind of smile she was wearing on the day I died, “He’s on an emergency business trip in Europe with grandma last night,” She added
I let out a long sigh. That’s why they disappeared without notice. I wonder what’s the sudden problem for them to go together, it only happens on rare occasions. They have a different role to fill in there, I suppose. I grabbed my fork once again and started eating when I felt the hunger kicking in.
“How about your boyfriend then?” Van, the strange blonde guy questioned and smiled at me.
My brows almost met each other by his question, “Do you know my boyfriend?” I asked him.
“Probably,” He winked at me.
Why can I see a resemblance between Gin and this man? Are they perhaps, long lost brothers? Both of them have the same energy to annoy someone.
I didn’t bother talking to him anymore. Gin squeezed my hand before letting go. When I glanced at him, I saw him smiling like a baby at me.
“Why aren’t you eating?”
“I ate before coming here.”
I shrugged, “Alright.”
The dining hall is quite peaceful after those words. Navia was quietly eating while Van gives us some creepy smile once in a while. When we finally finished eating, I didn’t waste any time and dragged Gin’s ass to my room.
“Hey, you’re not going to take advantage of me right?” He exaggeratedly curled his voice like a madman. I know he’s joking but this made me glare at him once again.
“It’s early to annoy the hell out of me, Whinston.”
“Darling be gentle.” He joked once again but I just ignored his nonsense reaction and continued to pull him up in my room.
I need to talk to him about everything that happened and probably things that will happen sooner or later. We need to clear things out especially this contract that needs the consent of both parties.
Why did he even announce his existence as my fiancée when I didn’t officially break my ties with June?
When we reached the stair, a person barged in the door and that resulted in us stopping and looking at the person wearing a gloomy look. His dark and cold expression made the room chilly. In my peripheral vision, I saw Van and Navia getting out of the door where we were from. Van was smirking while Navia’s face is only a blank expression.
Why do I feel like this?
Even though I was given a second life and was transported back in the past, it feels like I still know nothing at all. The future I once knew and held on to as a chance for survival is slowly changing.
When I took a peek at Gin, his face was serious. Unlike his usual appearance that seems happy-go-lucky, this man standing beside me is scary different. He’s looking straight ahead at the new visitor.
I bit my lower lip before speaking the name that sometimes made me tremble in fear because of what happened in the past.
“June.”
“What the hell, Freya?” The angry voice from June roared. I saw the sky outside getting gloomy, it feels like a sign that today will be another stress in a cup. “June,” I called his name once again. His eyes drifted down at my hands that were holding Gin’s wrist. I can see how it angered him more. He openly gritted his teeth so hard that I saw his jaw move. I let Gin go and gave him a knowing look. I need him to stay out of sight for a bit so things wouldn’t get messy. “Alright,” He backed up. June took wide steps to reach where I stood. He even tried to grab Gin who’s walking towards Navia and Van but I immediately stopped him by snatching the hem of his white polo t-shirt. “Let’s talk.” June’s expression softened when we met eyes. “Freya.” Now that we’re standing close, I can see how pale he is. His breath is shaky and heavy. I grabbed his hands and guided him to the place where I should’ve brou
Hearing his word made me realize how much of an asshole he really is. He’s not the June I imagined him to be. I was so blinded by love that even his flaws became perfect to me and I ignored the red flags before thinking that he’s just an imperfect human being that loves me too. I went on my knees to look at June’s eyes. “You’re not the man I love.” “After a year you’re going to have a change of heart? We promise each other!” He cried out. “You probably love me because of my money, right?” “Freya, t-that’s not it! I love you, honestly-“ A slap landed on his face again. “Leave,” I stood up, “You’re not welcome here or in my life anymore.” With that, I opened the door and went outside. I waited for him to get out before closing it. “Freya…” He called lovingly. It made my heart sting in pain again. How could he sound so sweet despite the things he has done? I want to shout at him. To question him why he pushed
“Have you ever considered talking to birds?”“What? Are you stupid?”Gin chuckled after hearing my statement. How can he make such a stupid question every time we see each other?“Shut up and start acting your age, alright?” I whispered back to him when we finally sat at the table. It’s been a week since those incidents happened. That week made me feel hell for a bit. Yesterday, my dad and my grandma came back from the business trip they had gone through. Of course, the next thing would be predictable; he finds out that both his daughters have a fiancée and keep on visiting and staying at the house every day.Surprisingly, it was peaceful between the four of us. Navia didn’t pull any tricks or stunts to me, which seemed suspicious. On the other hand, Gin keeps on asking dumb questions every God damn time that it irks me, but it also helps me get my mind off my problems. I think my feelings for
The police asked the father to come with them for interrogation, and Gin insisted on coming along with my father. At first, my dad complained, but he couldn’t argue with Gin, who seemed determined. The police also asked for assistance for Navia and me, but my father intruded and said we were too shocked and left us for another day, to which the police agreed immediately. It was not a surprise since my father is influential enough to sway this case. I hope nothing worse will happen.I paced back and forth in my room. The last words of that strange maid echoed on my mind.Everyone in the house gossiped about the sudden death of that maid. Everywhere I go, I always hear what happened, and it can’t get off my mind. I can’t even calm down a little bit. I was sweating all over my body while that creepy voice of the maid played like a song on loop on my head.Someone knows something about my past self. Why are they after me? Why is it that they intend
Those days passed by like nothing had happened. The death of a stranger seems meaningless. I waited for a family, at least, to show up and claim her body at the morgue, and no one came. I have no idea what is it, even my father. On the other hand, my grandmother is busy handling the company affairs since this month is a rush sale.“You’re pouting again.” Gin’s voice knocked my senses, “You okay?”“What do you think?” I sarcastically bite back.“I think she’s far from that.” The blonde freak sitting on the back of the car squished in.I rolled my eyes. “A-Aw – hey, watch it, man!” Gin lets Van go soon after he shoves him inside the car. I just shook my head in disbelief and at how much noise they are.“Let’s go.” My reflexes went ahead of me. Sure, I was in denial about it two days ago. I honestly have a little resentment towards him, and I feel a little bit awkward. My feelings can’t help it since I was betrayed by the people I thought loved me dearly. It’s a trauma response.“Are you angry?” His voice sounded worried.I shook my head. "No, just a little tired.” Then J leaned on the car seat and sighed deeply. I haven't started with my plan yet, but
“A date? Did you hit your head or something?” I asked in disbelief. He chuckled. “Come on, you're acting as if I'm not a sweet person.” He turned in a corner. “Plus, we're a team. I need to know the whole plan, your enemies, your doubts,” he continued.I crossed my arms in my chest and stared blankly at the man driving while wearing a smug look. “Why so?” I questioned his skanky ass. For some reason, he's a little more energetic today. “Stop pouting.” He reached out and pinched my nose gently. I slapped his hands away and glared but he just laughed and shrugged it off.I rolled my eyes, looks at the window and sighed.
