“What were you doing with her?”

“It's not what it looks like, Odessa. I promise. She was…” He sighed, almost as if he was thinking of how he would explain himself without worsening the situation. “She walked in a few minutes before you did and saw me struggling to put on my robe. She offered to help, at first I declined. But it became harder and she just jumped in to help.”

“No woman would volunteer to help a man who's about to become her future husband! You should have mind-linked me!” Odessa yelled.

“I tried!” Kaiden yelled in his defense, “But your barrier was up and I couldn't get through to you no matter how hard I tried.”

“And your guards? Were their mind-barriers up as well?”

“Odessa, I–”

“You have no excuse, Kaiden. You know how I feel about you being close to that woman and now I find her in your bedroom! You haven't visited me once throughout last week and the week prior. So I took it on myself to come see you myself and guess what your guards told me.”
