Chapter 14

KODAN POV

I could smell her, but her scent wasn’t right, it kept changing. Flickering between her normal and a scent that was nothing like hers, if Jase had marked her, it was already changing her and we didn’t have long.

Brody was on intent on finding her and kept stopping sniffing the air, images flashed across his mind of a basement and a hut. I hadn’t told anyone but Brody could sense a lot more from smell than most werewolves, the more exposure I got to the scent helped Brody locate someone faster he could see where they were as if they were looking through another’s eyes.

“Zev needs help. I have to go.” Zante calls out and I turn to see him running back to the house. I had a wave of anxiety wash over me knowing Brody was now alone and didn’t have Zante to calm him. He continues running and the images got brighter and more frequent until Brody came to a sudden halt. He drops low and sniffs the air, His head flicking around as if waiting for someone.

A growl comes from a bush before a fighter launches himself at Brody. Brody easily step out the way and starts circling, his canines dripping. He was a lot bigger than the fighter; I mean A LOT bigger. The fighter launches and Brody braces as their body hits his. He bends down and drags the fighter by the neck and shakes them until they go limp. That was too easy.

MAGGIE POV

I come to and Damon is sat staring at me. He presses his face against mine and runs his hand down my body. He leans in to kiss me when suddenly the basement hatch is ripped off and the shock of it causes Lyra to break through and partially shift. Damon stumbles back as I break through the wraps on my wrists and ankles and he is thrown to the floor by a blur of black and red.

My limbs no longer feel heavy and feel Lyra’s anger bubbling, she wanted to kill. She hadn’t completely taken over which I was grateful for. I hear bones snap and I look to see Damon fully shifted trying to keep Brody from ripping his throat out. I walk towards them and they both turn their heads to me. Sensing a free moment, Damon breaks free of Brody and Lyra instinctively takes over. I am forced to the back of my own mind and can only watch as Lyra launches herself at Damon, tacking him to the floor.

Damon’s wolf stares at Lyra in shock, as she drags him to the table he had tied me to. He struggles against her and releases a horrific growl only to have Brody latch onto his leg and break it with ease. Through sheer adrenaline Damon breaks out of Lyra’s grip and embeds his teeth into her side pinning her to the floor. She turns her head and snaps at Damon’s face, writhing to get out from under him. Brody grabs him by the throat and drags him off her and pushes Lyra towards the hatch before turning on Damon.

Lyra whimpers and I slowly start to shift back. I watch as the teeth marks on my side heal quickly but I was exhausted.

I watch as Brody fights against Damon when I hear a crash above us. I look up through the hatch just as Zantes head appears in the gap. As soon as I meet his gaze flashes of Alpha Jase are in my mind and I try to shake them away.

“Thank goddess you’re okay” he sighs in relief. Zante pulls me out of the hatch and I struggle against him as he stands, his skin burned against mine. Zev rushes up and steadies us running his fingers through my hair and I swat his hand away trying to get out of their grasp. He looks between me and Zante and backs off.

“Shhh Maggie.” Zante purrs. He offers a hand to Kodan who was climbing out of the basement, removing the stairs entirely after he climbs them. I glance down and see Damon’s twisted body on the floor. “Tie them up” he says pointing at Jase and Leo who were surrounded by a group of wolves.

Zante carries me to the sofa and lays me down, Kodan and Zev join us and hold my arms.i stare between them and cringe as their touch burns against my wrists.

“This is going to hurt Maggie but it’s the only way I can stop all this” he purrs into my ear while moving my hair away from my neck, revealing Jase’s mark. A low growl rumbles from Zante and he pins Jase with a glare.

“How much if a disgusting and desperate person do you have to be to steal someone else mate, if you stopped killing yours, you may have been happily with pups but because you don’t listen, this is what has happened” Jase opens his mouth to protest, but the shock on his face

ZANTE POV

I didn’t have long to stop Maggie forgetting that we were her destined mates. I couldn’t have Jase own her forever. Another wave of pain rips through all three of us and I move Maggie’s hair out the way. Jase’s mark was throbbing on her neck but it was healing, I look between Kodan and Zev and they grip Maggie tighter. I hated the fact this was the way I was going to mark our mate.

Gripping her head, I plunge my teeth in Jase’s mark covering it with my mouth. Maggie’s scream pierced through me and struggles under us as she is filled with pain. I suck on her neck waiting for my teeth to pierce the new skin below the mark. I pull my teeth out and plunge in again harder, double marking to make sure it remained. I looked down and realise Maggie had another mark on her thigh, which as healing a lot quicker.

“You need to break the mark on her thigh.” Kodan immediately moves Maggie closer to him and pushes a thigh at Zev for him to hold. Kodan bites down and another scream rips from Maggie, but she doesn’t struggle. Her eyes roll to the back of her head as she falls unconscious from the pain, just as Zev moves and marks her other thigh. A low purr came from Maggie as she remained unconscious but I watch as the two bite marks on her disappear. I stalk towards Jase and his eyes widen as I bare my canines at me.

“If I hadn’t made a promise to my father not to kill you, believe me Jase, you would disappear very quickly. Fortunately for you my father and your father had a close bond and they made a deal to protect each other. I’m regretting this now” I growl at him. Jase pulls at the bonds that tie him to the chair and exchanges glances between Leo and the basement door. I grin and open the basement hatch, keeping my eyes on Jase.

Kodan and Zev hesitantly leave Maggie laying on the sofa, she would come around soon and now she is safe and help me move Leo and Jase towards the basement. I chuckle as we push them in to join Damon and lower myself into the basement. I pull Jase to one of the cells and tie him tightly to the bed, I do the same with Leo and Damon. I don’t even give them a backwards glance before I leave and seal the hatch. They can work their way out of that.
