Allison's POV
I gulp, willing my heart to stop beating so fast. I can't believe that I'm being attacked inside a noodle shop, of all places.
Who even is this person, and what the hell does he want? The hand clamped heavily over my face is making it difficult for me to breathe. I go very still, hoping that will make him let down his guard enough for me to escape. It doesn't. Instead he leans closer, leering at me.
"That's a good girl," he says, leaning even closer.
The stench of garlic hits me like a punch, and I can feel tears pooling in my eyes.
"Now," he continues, "you're going to keep being a good girl. You're going to follow me out of this place, and you'll act natural so everyone thinks we're together. Do you understand?"
Wait a second, am I being abducted? In this fist-size noodle shop, and by a homeless looking man with bad breath no less?!
When I don't respond, he clamps his hand tighter over my nose and mouth, giving me a rough shake.
"Do you understand, bitch?" he hisses in a harsh whisper.
I gulp again, nodding. Best to play along until we're back in the dining area. I can get help then. Whoever this man is, I can tell that he's stronger than I am. I can't take him down with brute force, so I'll have to be smart to get out of this situation.
He removes his hand, but before I can breathe in relief, he grabs my upper arm so tightly that it's a wonder how my bones don't crack. Tears spring up in my eyes from the pain, but I blink them back.
No way in hell am I giving this guy the satisfaction of seeing me cry. He steps closer so that we're walking side by side, and I feel him press the tip of a blade against my ribs. A silent threat.
I gulp, trying not to let my legs tremble as he leads me out of the bathroom area. As we walk through the dining area, I feel the knife pressing in closer, like he intends to put a hole in my side right there and then.
He's trying to get me to the exit without anybody finding what he's doing, I realize.
Hell no!
I'm not going to let some sicko take me to who knows where. As we walk past a teenage couple, I pretend to stumble, my hip knocking against their table. This makes him lose his balance, and the hand holding the blade slips. Seizing his moment of distraction, I drive my elbow into his stomach and shove him away.
"You bitch!" he yells, doubling over.
People turn to stare, but I'm not looking at them. I'm looking for Xander Black, and I can't find him. I can't see him at our table, and I don't know where he could have gone…
"Xander!" I call out.
That's all I'm able to shout before the man grabs me from behind and shoves me against the wall. My back hits the wall so hard I'm surprised my spine doesn't crack.
He lifts one large hand to slap me, but before the hit can land, Xander appears between us. So fast that I almost don't see it, he slaps the man's hand away and follows that up with a strike to his chest.
The kidnapper that had looked so strong to me topples like a sack of potatoes, falling to the floor with a thud.
……
I stand to the side as Xander makes a call, summoning some of his agents to apprehend the man. He and I are probably going to be long gone before the agents arrive. We can't have anybody asking questions about why we're together, least of all them.
I watch him walk back to me, his movements graceful like those of a predator. He had been so beautiful, taking down that man. He is so beautiful now, despite the anger in his eyes and the vein pulsing in his clenched jaw.
"I'm sorry," I say as he reaches me.
He looks at me, his anger giving way to obvious surprise.
"Sorry for what?" he asks.
"I'm sure this isn't how you thought the date would go," I reply.
"It's not how I imagined it would go," he agrees with a shrug, "but I don't see how that's your fault."
He stops in front of me, looking me over carefully.
"Did he hurt you?" he asks.
I stare at him. I know that Xander Black has a strong sense of responsibility, and that this is simply concern for the mother of his child, but it still feels strange to see him showing me concern at all.
Perhaps that's why, despite the fact that I'm throbbing with pain in a number of places, I just shake my head and say "I'm alright."
"We should go somewhere else," he says. "Is there anywhere else you want to go?"
I blink at him in surprise.
"You… still want to go ahead with the date?" I ask.
"Of course," he replies. "Don't you?"
"I do!" I say quickly. "How about a drive, then? Around the city?"
It's a favorite pastime of mine, to drive around the city with no destination in mind.
I expect him to brush the idea aside or say it's silly, but he doesn't.
Instead, he's driving us around the city minutes later.
I lean back in my seat and close my eyes with a smile, savoring the cool breeze rushing past my face and blowing strands of golden blonde hair around my face.
Feeling Xander Black's gaze on me, I open my eyes and look at him. He's looking at me with a soft expression that is unlike him. It's the sort of look I would wear if I was watching a lovely sunset.
"Mr. Black?" I say, confused.
He blinks, as if waking from a dream, and turns away to look back at the road in front of him.
"Rides make you really happy, don't they?" he says.
I feel a smile stretch on my face.
"Yes," I say cheerfully, "they really do."
He's watching me again, and I can't read the expression in his eyes.
"Then," he says, "let's do this more often."
Xander's POVMaybe I should not stare at Allison Carter this way. She's smiling so brightly and in such an unguarded way that it somehow feels like cheating to watch her like this. But she's right here beside me, acting so delighted about something as small as a car ride around the city. Her eyes are closed, her head thrown back and her sun-kissed blonde hair dancing around her face. With this sight filling my senses, the most ridiculous thought blooms in my mind.Damn, I think, Allison Carter is beautiful.I've always known that Allison is beautiful, even if she kept it hidden under the shabby fashion and her meek manner. But here, it feels like she has tossed everything that held her down aside. She looks so unburdened, so free.So beautiful. It's like she's radiating some sort of light. I've never seen her like this before. She looks younger and fresher.Suddenly she opens her eyes and looks at me, clearly confused to have found me staring."Mr. Black?" she says.I blink, turning
Allison's POVXander Black must have been born to distract me. Once again, he has me staring at my system for a full ten minutes without doing anything, and he didn't even have to be here to do it!I sigh, staring at the screen to remember what I was doing before the memories of yesterday swept me away.Memories of Xander's eyes, and the unusual softness in them. Memories of his concern and his kindness. He had gone to a noodle shop just because I wanted to, and let me spend a foolishly long time at the fountain without complaining, even waiting for me and driving me home afterwards. All rather small things to be gushing about, I know, but dating Peterson for four years does that to a person. And that look in his eyes…I had turned away from the fountain at one point, looking around to see if he had gone, and there he was, drawing my eyes like he always does. His warm gaze had been fixed on me, an alluring smile playing on his lips. It had looked… almost like he might maybe somehow lo
Allison's POVI don't remember terminating the call. The second my mind registers Elsa's words, I'm out of my seat. As I hurriedly pack my stuff into my bag and turn off my system, I can hear Amy saying something in an annoyed tone. I don't bother listening.I'm too busy rushing out of the office.Peterson has disappeared. That's all I can think about as I take the stairs two at a time. I know I'm panicking, but I can't help it. Peterson could be anywhere. He could be doing anything, now that I can no longer keep an eye on him. He might be a useless bum, but even I have learnt from experience how dangerous Peterson can get when I take my eyes off him. He could be putting plans in motion to ruin my life at this very moment. I have to find him immediately, and I have to start now. I know that leaving the company during work hours without obtaining permission is going to get me into serious trouble with the higher-ups. Especially with Rachel Fisher, but I can worry about that later. As I
Rachel's POVGoldbrew cafe is the best cafe in the city, which is why it's the only cafe I ever walk into. Usually, the air-conditioned interior and the sweet aroma of coffee are enough to make me feel good, especially after a hectic day at work. But these days, all this place reminds me of is that bitch called Allison Carter, and how she humiliated me by making me come to the Omega outskirts.I had to scrub my skin for hours just to get the disgusting stench of that filthy place off myself. I even had to burn the clothes I had worn to the place. Who knows how many germs they had picked up? Way too much for simple washing to have been enough, that's for sure.As if I didn't already have enough reason to despise that bitch. I've always known I would never be able to stand her, from the very first moment I saw her. She had the guts to show up for an interview, taking advantage of Xander's kindness. She didn't even have the good sense to know that just because he said that employment in
Allison's POVAs I settle into my desk, I can't help wondering what would have happened if I had missed work today. Nothing good, that's for sure.Thankfully, I didn't have to, since I was able to find out something about Peterson's location last night. I would have loved to find out the exact place he is, but I was able to find out where he was last seen, so that's something. I already had Elsa send the information to the security personnel searching for him, and now all I can do is hope that they find him.Not a very reassuring activity, but I'll survive.I'm about to get started for the day when I feel someone glaring at me so hard that it's a wonder they haven't burned a hole in the back of my head. I turn around, only to have my suspicions confirmed. The person staring is Amy. While I'm not surprised that she's the one, I'm quite surprised by the speed with which she abandoned her false niceness tactic. She must have realized that I would never fall for it, but I didn't expect he
Rachel's POVEver since she stepped her filthy feet into our company, I've always wanted to break Allison Carter. Yet she always brushed off whatever I did with that big, idiotic smile she always wears. It was like nothing could shake her or hurt her.Until today.I can't keep a smirk of satisfaction off my face as I watch her tremble. She looks like her whole world is crumbling around her.I would make her whole world crumble around her if I could. But for now, I'll have to be contented with snatching the one thing she wants so desperately from her. It's an even more satisfying feeling than I expected."My office gets dirtier the longer you stand there," I say, returning to my book. "Get lost. I'm done with you.""No."That one word, delivered with enough poison to kill me where I sit, makes my head snap up and my jaw drop in shock."What?" I demand, certain that I've heard her wrong."I said no," she replies in a cold voice. "We are not done here, Rachel Fisher."The words hit me li
Rachel's POVIt seems I have begun to hallucinate, because there's no way Xander just said that to me. Allison Carter obtained permission from him? When? How?Since when does one bypass the CEO's personal assistant and obtain permission directly from the CEO?That's against company protocol. And wait, if Allison Carter really got permission to leave from Xander, was she just watching me make a fool of myself this whole time?Did she plan all of this, even provoking me so that I would call Xander, all to make me humiliate myself?I glare at her, but she just stares defiantly at me. She's not gloating or anything. Was it not an act, then? Or is this just another ploy to embarrass me once again?Damn it, I hate not knowing, I think."I beg your pardon?" I say to Xander. "I'm afraid I didn't quite hear you."If he notices my sinking state of mind, he doesn't show it. He just goes on talking calmly, as if all of this is normal."I gave Miss Carter permission to leave that day," he says. "I
Allison's POVI don't know what I expected Xander's request to be, but it wasn't this. He had told me to meet him at a different noodle shop from the one we went to last time.I figured it would be a date of some sort, even though he was being very mysterious about his intentions. The last thing I expected was for him to drive us to, of all places, the biggest mall in the city.I stare at the large building through the car window, then turn to stare at him with my mouth open."What are we doing here?" I ask."What does it look like?" he replies, already about to get out of the car.I grab his hand before he can open the door, staring at him in shock."We can't go in there," I say desperately."Why not?" he asks, giving me an odd look."People would see us together," I reply. Why is he acting like he doesn't realize that? I think."They won't," he says."Why, does being Alpha grant you the power to blind people?" I ask, too scared to bother about how the question sounds."No," Xander s
Allison's POVElsa and I are alone in my apartment, three different computer systems open in front of us, all in use at the same time. I'm determined to finish my presentation today, and while Elsa isn't a software developer like me, she does know her way around computer systems. Things are definitely faster with her here, and we're almost done at this point.Elsa leans back from the keys she was typing on, cracking her neck and her fingers. Then she stretches until her back pops, before leaning forward to rest her head on the table."Allison!" she whines. "I'm exhausted."I sigh, rubbing my eyes."Yeah, me too," I say. We've been working nonstop for hours, and I'm honestly surprised either of us lasted this long."Let's do something else," she says."Something like what?" I ask.She turns her head to face me, a big smile blooming on her face."Let's talk about your outfit for the Tech Wizard competition, of course," she says. "Have you tried on the clothes Xander Black bought you yet
Allison's POV"Oh my gosh!" I exclaim, staring at my phone.Elsa chokes on her lemonade out of surprise and drops the glass quickly, coughing."What the hell, Allison?" she asks.I pat her back, smiling sheepishly. I look around the company cafeteria to see if anyone saw what happened. Sure enough, there are a lot of people staring at me like I've gone crazy. I quickly return my gaze to Elsa, rubbing her back gently till she stops coughing."I'm so sorry, Elsa," I say."It's okay," she replies, straightening up and picking up her glass from the table. "But seriously, what was that for?"I stare back down at the screen of my phone."It's five days to next month," I say."Okay…" she says, raising her eyebrow. "And?""You're hopeless," I say with a sigh. "It's less than two weeks to the Tech Wizard competition, remember?""Oh!" she exclaims, "I totally forgot. How are your preparations coming along? Are you ready yet?"I have to sigh again."I actually haven't made as much progress as I
Elsa's POVI've never thought of myself as capable of murder, but perhaps I should have. I'm this close to grabbing a pen from this table in front of me and slashes the throat of this idiot that just won't stop saying nonsense. But that would be messy, and I would have too many questions to answer, and I would be punished at the end of all that drama.Besides, I'm supposed to accompany Ian on an errand today, and I got my nails done just this morning. It would be a waste to ruin them with the blood of fools. So I'm forced to continue sitting still and listening to this waste of space and oxygen as he goes on and on about how finding Peterson is not of great importance."I know you're acting as her representative," he's saying, "and to be honest, Miss, I really don't think you should be doing that. I don't see why you would choose such a role. But anyway, a job given to us by an Omega goes to the bottom of the list. If she wants our help in finding this man, she will have to exercise s
Xander's POVI should stop finding Allison adorable. Our relationship is purely out of necessity, and thoughts like that are what's going to make things needlessly difficult for the both of us. But it's not easy to hold onto this decision when she just keeps being so cute.Especially that blush of hers. I think I'm starting to get obsessed with that flustered look of hers, with the way blood steals up her cheeks and the sides of her neck.I used to think that her choice of clothes hid her beauty, but now I wonder if I was just being blind. She's dazzling. I can't take my eyes off her, messy hair, baggy clothes and all. I can't take my eyes off her now, as she turns in a near circle, glancing around the five-star restaurant I've brought us to with a look of pure wonder on her face.I can't help the warm feelings that go through me at this sight. I'm starting to learn just how much I love impressing Allison Carter.Dangerous thoughts, Xander, I think, scolding myself.I'm not naive. I k
