Allison's POV
I don't know what I expected Xander's request to be, but it wasn't this. He had told me to meet him at a different noodle shop from the one we went to last time.
I figured it would be a date of some sort, even though he was being very mysterious about his intentions.
The last thing I expected was for him to drive us to, of all places, the biggest mall in the city.
I stare at the large building through the car window, then turn to stare at him with my mouth open.
"What are we doing here?" I ask.
"What does it look like?" he replies, already about to get out of the car.
I grab his hand before he can open the door, staring at him in shock.
"We can't go in there," I say desperately.
"Why not?" he asks, giving me an odd look.
"People would see us together," I reply.
Why is he acting like he doesn't realize that? I think.
"They won't," he says.
"Why, does being Alpha grant you the power to blind people?" I ask, too scared to bother about how the question sounds.
"No," Xander says with a chuckle. "But it does give me the influence needed to have a private shopping experience."
"A private…" I blink. "I don't understand. What?"
"You'll see," he says. Then looks pointedly at where my hand is still gripping his on the door handle.
"As soon as you let us leave the car," he adds.
Blood rushes to my cheeks, no doubt turning them a bright shade of red. I let go of his hand like it's burning mine, and my cheeks grow hotter when he chuckles again.
"I'm so glad that you find me entertaining," I mumble.
Only for him to chuckle yet again!
I'm about to die of embarrassment at this point. Thankfully, he chooses that moment to get out of the car. I take a deep breath to calm my racing heart, then turn to my door only to see him already holding it open. My heart skips a beat at that, and I can only stare for a full moment.
"Allison?" he calls.
I blink, then gulp, looking up at those intense hazel eyes. For a moment, I lose myself in them, and find myself fighting the urge to lean forward and claim those full lips with mine…
Yeah, no, I think, scolding myself firmly. Get a grip, Allison.
"Thank you," I say, stepping out the car.
My heart is racing again, but I'll dig a hole and bury myself in it before I let him know that. So I slap a big smile on my face like I usually do when things get awkward.
"So," I say, knowing I sound way too cheerful, "why don't we take a look at this private shopping experience?"
……
I'm used to walking around while shopping, going from aisle to aisle and taking the clothes that catch my eye to the dressing room. But Xander just takes me to a large, tastefully furnished room where all I have to do is sit in a comfortable sofa and sip from a tall glass of chilled orange juice while several young women bring out several lovely outfits for me to try on.
The sight of all these clothes I can't afford even now is too much for me. I can't help leaning over to speak to Xander in a low voice.
"What are the clothes for?" I whisper.
"The Tech Wizard competition," he replies. "You have a better shot at getting the judges to take you seriously if you're dressed elegantly. And we're going to make them take you very seriously."
I gape at him.
"So the thing you wanted in return… was for me to let you do my shopping for the Tech Wizard competition?" I ask.
It's too hard to believe.
"Well," he shrugs, "you wouldn't have let me do it if I hadn't used that opportunity, right?"
My cheeks flush.
He's right, I wouldn't have let him, I think. Even now, I want to reject the offer. He's my superior, and we're not really dating. I don't want to take advantage of his wealth like this.
But I can already tell that he won't listen to me if I raise these concerns. I just have to admit that he has outsmarted me on this one. I don't have any other choice at this point.
So I obediently try on every outfit they hand to me. Each time I step out of the changing room, I can't help the shiver of pleasure that goes through me at the look in Xander's eyes. He finds me beautiful, and that alone makes taking these outfits worth it.
I don't know how long it takes, but when we're finally done shopping, two of the young women carry the bags of clothes and walk us to the car.
"You don't have to," I say. "I can do it myself."
But they just smile and politely wave my offer aside. After they've dropped the bags in the backseat and gone back inside, Xander and I sit in the car for a while.
I would have worried that someone would see us, but luckily the windows are tinted.
"Thanks for the clothes," I say. "You really didn't have to."
"I know," he replies, a small smile on his lips. "But I don't mind doing things for you, Allison."
I don't know why those words make me blush. I turn away to hide my reddening cheeks from him, pretending to be looking at something outside.
"Anyway, um…" I say, feeling awkward. "Thank you. Really."
"Sure," he replies.
I'm grateful that he doesn't ask why I'm staring so intently out the window. He just reminds me to put on my seatbelt, because of course being flustered comes with forgetting something so simple. I put it on, feeling my cheeks growing hotter as he puts the car in motion.
"Is there something you need to do after this?" he asks.
"No," I respond.
"How lucky," he smiles at me, and my heart nearly leaps out of my chest, "I know a good place we could have lunch."
Xander's POVI should stop finding Allison adorable. Our relationship is purely out of necessity, and thoughts like that are what's going to make things needlessly difficult for the both of us. But it's not easy to hold onto this decision when she just keeps being so cute.Especially that blush of hers. I think I'm starting to get obsessed with that flustered look of hers, with the way blood steals up her cheeks and the sides of her neck.I used to think that her choice of clothes hid her beauty, but now I wonder if I was just being blind. She's dazzling. I can't take my eyes off her, messy hair, baggy clothes and all. I can't take my eyes off her now, as she turns in a near circle, glancing around the five-star restaurant I've brought us to with a look of pure wonder on her face.I can't help the warm feelings that go through me at this sight. I'm starting to learn just how much I love impressing Allison Carter.Dangerous thoughts, Xander, I think, scolding myself.I'm not naive. I k
Elsa's POVI've never thought of myself as capable of murder, but perhaps I should have. I'm this close to grabbing a pen from this table in front of me and slashes the throat of this idiot that just won't stop saying nonsense. But that would be messy, and I would have too many questions to answer, and I would be punished at the end of all that drama.Besides, I'm supposed to accompany Ian on an errand today, and I got my nails done just this morning. It would be a waste to ruin them with the blood of fools. So I'm forced to continue sitting still and listening to this waste of space and oxygen as he goes on and on about how finding Peterson is not of great importance."I know you're acting as her representative," he's saying, "and to be honest, Miss, I really don't think you should be doing that. I don't see why you would choose such a role. But anyway, a job given to us by an Omega goes to the bottom of the list. If she wants our help in finding this man, she will have to exercise s
Allison's POV"Oh my gosh!" I exclaim, staring at my phone.Elsa chokes on her lemonade out of surprise and drops the glass quickly, coughing."What the hell, Allison?" she asks.I pat her back, smiling sheepishly. I look around the company cafeteria to see if anyone saw what happened. Sure enough, there are a lot of people staring at me like I've gone crazy. I quickly return my gaze to Elsa, rubbing her back gently till she stops coughing."I'm so sorry, Elsa," I say."It's okay," she replies, straightening up and picking up her glass from the table. "But seriously, what was that for?"I stare back down at the screen of my phone."It's five days to next month," I say."Okay…" she says, raising her eyebrow. "And?""You're hopeless," I say with a sigh. "It's less than two weeks to the Tech Wizard competition, remember?""Oh!" she exclaims, "I totally forgot. How are your preparations coming along? Are you ready yet?"I have to sigh again."I actually haven't made as much progress as I

Allison's POVOn a typical work day, I am usually awakened by the gentle stirrings of my alarm clock, but today, I am woken by the intrusive wail of my phone's ringtone. With a grunt, I toss around on the bed, gripping my pillow and burying my face into it. But the ringing of my phone does not stop. Instead, it continues to ring continuously and I mutter a cuss under my breath before blindly stretching my hand to my bedside table and reaching for my phone. I almost drop the phone but the gods are merciful and I successfully grip the phone with my hand. Grumbling, I fumble with the phone and bring it to my ear with another irritable curse. The high-pitched voice of my best friend, Elsa, erupts into my ear, nearly causing me to drop the phone a second time.“Where the fuck are you, Allison Carter?!” “Where else am I supposed to be?” I answer, my voice gruff and scratchy from sleep. My eyelids remain closed, still heavy with drowsiness as I lean into my pillow. “I am in my apartment of
Allison's POVIt is closing hours after work and I am standing at the lobby, my eyes fixed on the entrance as I wait for Elsa. I do not fail to catch the front desk staff staring at me and whispering to each other. It doesn't move me anymore because I am already used to the constant gossip about me. They are gossiping about the same old thing. The low class omega girl who somehow managed to secure a job at this prominent company, yet lacking in the fashion flair that most of the employees here possess. “Who even wears that to a corporate job?” One of the ladies whispers and the second one replied.“I know right? Even if she works in the tech section, that doesn't give her a right to wear that to work. She is so embarrassing.”“I heard she is quite good with what she does, though. Matter of fact, she is the best software developer the company has. Rachel's dead jealous of her.”The ladies immediately fall into a reverent silence as a tall figure strides into the lobby, radiating an
Allison's POV“Yo, Allison!” The bar guy greets me with a wave, his friendly voice echoing through the bustling bar. “You’ve been coming around a lot lately. I hope it's not some sort of work drama driving you here, eh?”He flashes me a teasing grin, one of the many reasons I like hanging out at this bar. “I'm fine, Graham. Nothing to worry about.” I lie through my teeth as I sit on the bar stool, flashing him a fake thinned smile. But what Graham doesn't know is that my life has turned into a shitshow. My best friend is angry at me and wouldn't pick up my phone calls or reply to my messages, while Peterson, the jerk who I had believed was my soulmate, is going behind my back with some woman. And on my own bed too! If Graham knows all this, he would understand why I would be practically camping out in his bar these days.“I'll have the usual.” I say to him and Graham nods at me. “You've got it!” Graham pours my shots, handing them to me like he knows what my night needs. And he doe

Rachel's POVIt seems I have begun to hallucinate, because there's no way Xander just said that to me. Allison Carter obtained permission from him? When? How?Since when does one bypass the CEO's personal assistant and obtain permission directly from the CEO?That's against company protocol. And wait, if Allison Carter really got permission to leave from Xander, was she just watching me make a fool of myself this whole time?Did she plan all of this, even provoking me so that I would call Xander, all to make me humiliate myself?I glare at her, but she just stares defiantly at me. She's not gloating or anything. Was it not an act, then? Or is this just another ploy to embarrass me once again?Damn it, I hate not knowing, I think."I beg your pardon?" I say to Xander. He just goes on talking calmly, as if all of this is normal."I gave Miss Carter permission to leave that day," he says. "I
Rachel's POVEver since she stepped her filthy feet into our company, I've always wanted to break Allison Carter. Yet she always brushed off whatever I did with that big, idiotic smile she always wears. It was like nothing could shake her or hurt her.Until today.I can't keep a smirk of satisfaction off my face as I watch her tremble. She looks like her whole world is crumbling around her.I would make her whole world crumble around her if I could. But for now, I'll have to be contented with snatching the one thing she wants so desperately from her. It's an even more satisfying feeling than I expected."My office gets dirtier the longer you stand there," I say, returning to my book. "Get lost. I'm done with you.""No."That one word, delivered with enough poison to kill me where I sit, makes my head snap up and my jaw drop in shock."What?" I demand, certain that I've heard her wrong."I said no," she replies in a cold voice. "We are not done here, Rachel Fisher."The words hit me li
Allison's POVAs I settle into my desk, I can't help wondering what would have happened if I had missed work today. Nothing good, that's for sure.Thankfully, I didn't have to, since I was able to find out something about Peterson's location last night. I would have loved to find out the exact place he is, but I was able to find out where he was last seen, so that's something. I already had Elsa send the information to the security personnel searching for him, and now all I can do is hope that they find him.Not a very reassuring activity, but I'll survive.I'm about to get started for the day when I feel someone glaring at me so hard that it's a wonder they haven't burned a hole in the back of my head. I turn around, only to have my suspicions confirmed. The person staring is Amy. While I'm not surprised that she's the one, I'm quite surprised by the speed with which she abandoned her false niceness tactic. She must have realized that I would never fall for it, but I didn't expect he
