Chapter 14

In her small room, Alice stood by the window and looked out at the huge grounds of the MacPherson estate. The sky was softly colored pink and gold by the rising sun, but she didn't seem to notice how beautiful it was. Her mind was full of feelings and thoughts.

Her breath made the cool glass foggy as she whispered to herself, "Have I made a mistake falling for Carson?" "We clearly can't be together, and I can't lose my job right now... "Ah, I'm being stuck!"

As thoughts of Carson came flooding back to her, she pressed her face against the window and closed her eyes. He smiled sweetly, touched her gently, and his eyes lit up when he saw her. Then, like a dark cloud over the sun, they saw how things really were: his family's demands, problems at work, and the huge gap in their social ranks.

Alice woke up when she heard a soft knock on her door. Right before she opened the door, she quickly wiped her eyes and pressed her uniform. Carson stood there, his fragrance smell all over the place
