LEAH
The first thing I noticed was the cold. Not the sharp bite of winter or the brush of an open window, no, this was different. It sank deeper. Into my bones, my blood, my soul. A cold that said something was terribly, irreversibly wrong I tried to move, a stupid instinct, really but the second I shifted, white-hot pain exploded at my wrists and ankles. A whimper slipped out before I could bite it back. Pathetic. Weak. I’m suddenly reminded by Darren’s words as my body in more pain than I could ever imagine My vision swam in and out of focus. Darkness twisted around me, thick and suffocating, and when I blinked, it felt like prying open rusted shutters. My head pounded with a slow, vicious rhythm, each throb pulling me further from the comfortable ignorance of unconsciousness and back into reality. Where... where was I? My mind raced to what was going on and what had actually happened but everything was blank till it began to rush in like a fog making me groan out loud. Sunlight dancing across the gardens. The Lunas laughing, smiling. Then chaos. Screams. The gate crashing down. Rogues pouring through like a flood. The metallic taste of blood in the air. And then something pressed over my mouth and nose. A sharp, chemical sting that made my limbs go heavy made the world tilt and spin then... nothing. I tried to suck in a deep breath, but the air smelled wrong. Stale. Moldy. Metallic. My stomach twisted in immediate revolt. I tried to move my hands and that’s when realization dawn upon me I was chained. I knew it before I even looked. I could feel the cruel bite of iron cuffs at my wrists and ankles, the raw skin beneath them already slick with blood but it was coated with silver which made burn and worse, I could smell the wolfsbane. What the hell is actually going on? No wonder my limbs felt like lead. No wonder my mind was so railed up and a bit foggy, the bastards had drugged me. Restrained me and now... now I was goddamn trapped but to make it worst I didn’t really know who it was, I had too much enemies that I couldn’t even trace who did this The perks of being a queen they never tell you about Panic skittered through me, sharp and frantic. I blinked harder, forcing my sluggish mind to focus. The room swam into view, dim and cavernous, lit by a sickly green light that made everything look diseased. Stone walls. Steel reinforcements. Faint symbols etched into the surfaces, binding runes meant to suppress power. My powers, this person knows me well enough to know I had powers which made my heart launched for my throat as my fear took the best of me A chair, bolted to the ground. My body strapped to it like I was some specimen in a lab. My heart slammed against my ribs. Dante, Where was Dante? Did anyone even know I was gone? Had they found the blood, the broken flowers, and the signs of a struggle...? I tugged against the chains on instinct, raw and desperate. The iron sizzled against my skin, and a broken sob ripped from my throat before I could silence it. No...I couldn’t panic. I couldn’t fall apart, I had to think. They all might be watching me through a camera of sort; I couldn’t let them know am... A low, mocking chuckle rolled through the room. My entire body stiffened. My head snapped toward the sound but see no one. I looked closer but still no one, I could feel a pair of gaze upon my skin but I couldn’t see anyone which made my heart go into further panic A figure peeled itself from the shadows, moving with an easy, predatory grace and I felt the air in my lungs being knocked out not out of shock for his beauty but the scar on his face that also gave me chills Victor. Even if I never met him before it felt like him He wore black, his long coat swallowing the light around him. His smile curled at the edges like something rotting. "Awake at last," he purred his voice a smooth caress over broken glass. He stopped a few feet in front of me, arms folded lazily behind his back, like he had all the time in the world. "I was beginning to think I’d have to throw cold water on you." I stared at him, forcing my expression blank even as my pulse hammered against my throat. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. I wouldn’t let him see the terror crawling up my spine like a thousand spiders. He tilted his head, pretending to be disappointed. "No threats? No desperate little insults?" His eyes gleamed. "Good. Save your energy. You’re going to need it." "You’re a coward," I rasped, my voice raw but steady. "You drugged me. You attacked from the shadows. You know you’d never win if I could fight back." Victor’s lips twitched, like he was amused. "Oh, Leah. This isn’t about winning a fight." He spread his arms wide, gesturing around the sickening room. "This is about winning everything." I followed his movements and froze. Behind him loomed a machine even if I wasn’t very vast in my studies I knew that machine when I saw one. A monstrous, patchwork thing built of pipes, pulsing crystals, and tangled wires. It looked alive, breathing, watching. "What the hell is that?" I whispered before I could stop myself, my voice barely a thread of sound. Victor smiled all teeth and cruelty. "A marvel. A union of magic and science." He walked to it like it was something sacred, running his fingers along the humming surface. "You, Leah, possess a power you don’t even begin to understand. A power that could tip the balance of the world. And I," he said, turning to look at me, "intend to take it." My stomach knotted painfully. I shook my head. "You’re insane. You can’t just steal someone’s magic. It doesn’t work like that." Victor chuckled, a soft, pitying sound that made my skin crawl. "That's what they want you to believe. But with the right... persuasion," he said, tapping the machine with an affectionate pat, "anything is possible." He flipped a switch. The machine whirred to life with a low, predatory hum. The crystals embedded in its core brightened, casting the room in a hellish red glow. I didn’t know if he could do what he claims but I had no intention of waiting to see that happen I yanked against the chains again, desperate, frantic but the wolfsbane sapped my strength, made every movement feel slow, dull, and useless. Victor busied himself at a control panel, flipping switches and turning dials. "You should feel honored," he said without even glancing at me. "You’ll be the first of a new age. The beginning of something... beautiful." "I won’t let you," I hissed, pulling until I felt iron slice deeper into my flesh. Blood trickled down my forearms, hot and sticky. Victor finally turned back, his expression alight with something dark and fervent. "You don’t have a choice." Two mechanical arms descended from the ceiling with a soft, mechanical whir. One clamped around my upper arm, hard enough to bruise. The other forced my chin back, exposing my throat like I was some animal about to be slaughtered. I fought, goddess, I fought but my body betrayed me at every turn. Sluggish. Weak. Slipping away. Victor crouched in front of me, holding a thin, gleaming needle. He smiled almost tenderly. "This will hurt," he said. "A lot." I bared my teeth at him, pure hatred blazing through my veins. "Go to hell." Victor just laughed. He connected the needle to the machine, and then reached for another switch. The hum deepened, rattling the very walls around us. Light burst from the crystals, blinding and red-hot. The machine clamped tighter. I had just enough time to suck in a breath and then the pain hit. Agony like I’d never known tore through me, ripping me apart molecule by molecule. It was like my very soul was being unraveled, pulled screaming from my body one delicate thread at a time. I screamed. I couldn’t stop it. Tears filled my eyes as I struggled, the sound ripped itself free, raw and broken and real, echoing off the stone walls in a symphony of suffering. Victor watched. He watched with fascination, bathed in the pulsing red glow of the machine, his eyes wide and hungry. Tears burned down my cheeks. My vision blurred. More of my strength slipped away with every passing second. I could feel it. Feel myself fading, somewhere deep inside, through the haze of pain and terror and rage, I clung to a single thought. A single name. Dante. I wrapped my mind around it like a lifeline, like a prayer, even as the darkness rose to swallow me whole. Please, I thought. Find me.DANTEMy body hadn’t stopped trembling with anger ever since she went missing, I couldn’t think straight and even if I ran as fast as possible I couldn’t catch up to them that day, hell I couldn’t even see them, they were too fast because I could still perceive her scent faintly but she was nowhere to be foundI returned to the kingdom and turns out the news had already reached before I arrived, mournful cry echoed through the castle walls, vibrating in my bones, rattling the very air I breathed. It was a sound that spelled one thing and one thing only, chaos.Panic.Desperation.And at the center of it all, I stood there silent, seething; my fists clenched so tightly that my claws had torn clean through the skin of my palms. I barely even registered the blood dripping onto the marble floors of the war room."Lock it down," I snarled, my voice a raw thing dragged from somewhere deep and violent inside me. "Lock the entire kingdom down. No one leaves. No one enters. Not without my expl
LEAH Pain and I… we’ve been longtime companions. Breathing heavily, I looked front, and my body felt like it had been dragged through hell though I’ve fought through broken bones, bled for wolves who never once deserved my loyalty, and carried grief like a second skin. But this… this is a different breed of agony. One that doesn't just rake its claws through flesh, it scrapes against the soul. The machine strapped to my chest hums like a predator, its silver gears whirring in time with the pulses of torment it feeds into me. Every time it surges, I feel something being pulled from my core, like muscle torn from bone. I bite down hard, swallowing a scream that claws its way up my throat. My back arches violently, involuntarily. My breath hitches. The cuffs around my wrists burn like open fir soaked in wolfsbane, they sear through skin and muscle, keeping my wolf sedated, quiet, caged. My ankles are locked down to the legs of the chair, chained with old iron laced in suppressive magic.
LEAHMy freedom began with a click and I still stuck on that click even if it felt good, it felt like a relief, but I couldn't keep myself in this position, I had just few hours before they come back, and I needed to get out of here quietly It was so soft I almost thought I imagined it. Just a quiet snick of metal giving way, but it roared through me like thunder. The first shackle was off. Three more to go, I took a deep breath not blinking an eye as I pushed further knowing my life depended on the outcome of my predicament. I didn’t sleep, I couldn't bring myself to do that when freedom was just few hours away, I looked through the window and relief coursed through my veins knowing I still had time, but I needed to hurryI took a breath before I continued to move knowing I could not afford to stay another day not with that monster of a machine humming beside me like it owned my soul, not with Victor’s voice echoing in my mind, claiming me like some lab rat he'd broken. My body was
DANTE The hall was filled to the brim with the senior members of the pack. It was a well-designed and modern hall that was just opening today, designed to hold the pack's meetings. Alpha Dante Lockwood always had a thing for breathtaking architecture, it was of no surprise that after his father left the pack for him 10 years ago after he died, he dedicated his blood, sweat, and tears to making his pack the most perfect there is in that part of the world. He made it the first first-world wolf country in the history of werewolves and that was why it attracted the most tourists every year like witches, vampires, and even dragons. Supernatural creatures loved coming to his city since they couldn't go out to the human world and see what civilization is like without being stigmatized and other times killed. "Welcome to the first meeting in our newest hall." Beta Louis stood up from the chair that was next to Alpha Dante's, but significantly lower to show him the respect. T
Jacob Blackwood looked for his son everywhere. After he heard what happened in the pack meeting with Alpha Dante, he knew he had to find him and talk some sense into him before he spoilt everything for them. He has always known his son to have anger issues and with the bubbling hate he had for Dante, he knew he was bound to explode someday like an active volcano, which was why Charles was doing everything in his power to stop it. He got to his son's chambers even though he knew he had very little chance of meeting him there since he wasn't the type to come home to his mate after a bad day. When he got to his house, he left his car which was imported from the human world for the royal family only. There were other means of transportation amongst the wolves but there was none that matched the luxury cars Alpha Dante brought in for them. He headed to the door and knocked on it until Cassandra, his son's mate opened up the door. She was clad in a matching lacy thong and g
LEAH I strolled down the palace with my comfortable shoes to supervise the work of the Omegas that worked in the pack. Other times when I was less busy, I would go on to help them do one or two chores before I go back to my room to paint something out of boredom. My life used to be interesting before I got married to Robert. I mean, even though my parents weren't rich and we were practically Omegas, I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted without being restricted because of my duties as the wife of the pack's Alpha. I used to be a bubbly little girl up until marriage ruined me. Now, I would never have the chance to experience what love was like because no one will dare to go for the woman Alpha Dante was married to, or even was once married to if we ever get separated at all. "You need to put in more effort in ironing Alpha Robert's clothes," I told one of the Omegas. "I don't want to see a wrinkle on it after you finish or I'll simply have to relieve you of the duty and g
DANTE The sun was about to set when Alpha Dante started to get ready for his meeting with his sister. He picked up the cloak they'd usually wear back when they were kids and their parents would force them to wear them for their family meetings. Even though they detested it back then, it was one of the few things that reminded him of his childhood and their parents. He stared at himself in the mirror as he went over his outfit then once again, got lost while looking into his own eyes. They were a light shade of brown and had an innocent round look to them. He had long thick eyelashes that were mostly covered by his jet-black hair. He had a chiseled strong jaw that gave most of his face its shape, and full pale pink lips that sat under his clean-shaved mustache. He had just shaved his face some minutes ago and the spicy scent of his after-shave filled his room. He looked over at his bed that had his clothes that were sprawled over, which he all tried on before he found the one t
The days went faster than the nights because of dealing with Paula when I got back to my chamber. I was starting to get irritated with her with every day that passed, and I knew it had everything with her changing an environment because that was certainly not how she was before. “When do you plan to clean up the goddamn room Paula?” Anger seared through my body as I found her laying on my bed with a box of chips made for me by the maids. It was hard to make them because of our potato scarcity, and I craved them all the time. So now that I had the power to have it whenever I wanted, I took the opportunity faster than lightning. “I will clean it, stop whining. You know you don’t have to go through all these if you just tell Robbie about our plan right?” I folded my hands over my chest which was covered with a dry towel I just wrapped around me after bathing. “You don’t tell me what to do Paula.” I turned my head away as a weight settled in my chest when I remembered our l
DANTE Alpha Dante toasted a cup to his uncle with a smile on his face as they went down the memory lane. He laughed as his uncle reminded him of all the goofy things he had done when he was young, all the sacrifices he made for the pack and all his parents did for love. He convinced him that no matter what, love always came first for the wolves in their pack. His father may not have done worse when it came to love but he knew if he was in that situation, he would do it without thinking twice. It was a day before Alpha Dante left the Aurora pack to the Tick moon pack with nothing but a carry-on of his clothes and money. He was going to make a brand new life in the neighboring pack since he had never shown his face, or had a meeting with anyone from the pack. Whatever relationship the both of them had come as a result of the pack members, and barely ever from the pack Alphas. “You have always been successful Dante, it wouldn’t be any different this time. I promise.” He placed
LEAH We got to the palace late at night. The doors to the palace were closed, the Omegas were back at their log cabins but the bodyguards still stood, the night shifters who I’m sure came in just a few minutes ago. I was sure Alpha Robert was in our room, trying to get some sleep after a long day. I’m sure he hadn’t fallen asleep because I could peek at some light right from the threshold of the palace. “You should get my clothes upstairs,” I told my maid as I stepped into the house. The bodyguards were surprised to see me, but they greeted me nevertheless and welcomed me back. “Okay, ma.” She nodded before she headed upstairs to my room where I kept some of my stuff. Alpha Robert didn’t allow any Omega into our room because of reasons unknown to me, but I knew it had to do with his mother. She was that way towards the Omegas too, even though Robert was softer than she was to them. I headed towards the fridge that just had its position changed recently. We always did
DANTE Dante's days were getting longer and each day that passed. He was barely able to have a good night's sleep before waking up in sweats and horror, unconscious of his surroundings. He was getting tired of it and taking Maria's advice suddenly didn't seem like a very bad idea. He was at the pack meeting, but he was barely concentrating on what the pack's committee was saying because of his lack of sleep in him. He caught himself dozing off a few times since the meeting started, which confused both his Beta and the rest of the committee because they knew Alpha Dante never showed a weak side. Even when he was sick, he would rather stay back in the palace than come down to the meeting and show a sign of weakness like sleep. "Alpha Brain," Beta Louis, who was closest to him touched his arm which jerked him up from his reverie. He brought his hand up to his forehead and massaged it before he turned to look at him. "What is it, Louis?" He asked. Beta Louis looked at him in
LEAH The next few days at my home were the best. I loved how I was being treated by Alpha Robert, which was strange compared to who he was a few days ago. It was quite surprising for a man that had that sort of tantrum to turn out to be all forgiving and loving in the next second. I was surprised but I knew I had to enjoy it while it lasted. “Are you done dressing up my queen?” He asked, planting a subtle kiss on my cheek and hugging me from behind. My body radiated with heat as thoughts of last night came rushing into my mind. I loved having sex with him, but I knew deep in my heart he wasn’t the one I wanted to be with. He was not my mate, he was my sister’s. It felt wrong letting him fuck me with every chance he got after I came back, even though I knew it had a lot to do with Paula. “Yes.” I nodded, a fake smile appearing on my lips as I tied my hair into my usual hairstyle. I decided to change my choice of clothing today because Alpha Robert’s mother would be here to ta
RACHEL A sharp scream evaded my throat as I got to my chamber and found the lock broken and droplets of blood at the threshold of my house. I was too slow and had gotten there way before Alpha Robert did, and I could see he had succeeded in breaking the locks of my house with his hands which only meant that his wolf side was beginning to show, and it only happens when he is extremely angry. I pushed the door open and rushed to my room where I could hear a little bit of whisper coming from it. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I prepared myself to see the worst before I opened the room, and what I saw there made my fear rise a notch. My room was completely scattered, my furniture broken and my walls scarred with punch marks. I brought my hand up to my mouth and covered it in shock as I analyzed the damage Alpha Robert did to my room before anger started to sear through my veins. But this wasn't the time to be angry, especially because of what I did to him. I didn't k
DANTE Alpha Dante tried to get the thought of what Maria told him out of his head. He used his usual tricks of making himself forget what was going on- like burying himself in work or going out hunting during the full moon when he transformed but all that didn’t work. He was still stuck in his sad little bubble that was getting worse and messing with his head with every day that passed. Today, he resorted to doing something he had not done for a very long time. Sex. He used to be able to keep it in his pants for an incredibly long time because of the self-control he learned to have ever since he was young but he knew he needed it now. If not, he would either go spiraling or go ahead with what his sister told him which was the last option in his mind. He called in one of his many royal concubines that were just living, waiting to be called by him. Every Alpha that didn’t have a Luna yet had a bunch of them provided by the pack but Alpha Dante slept with them only once in a blue
