Chapter 6

I fumbled for my phone on the hospital bed when suddenly, Edward fell to his knees with a loud thud right in front of me.

I stared at him in shock, unable to process what I was seeing.

“Molly, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault, and I hate myself for having raised kids like this. I thought they were just extreme but not bad at heart. I never imagined they’d do something so horrible—leaving you like this, hurt and broken. I’m so sorry, Molly.”

I watched my nearly 80-year-old brother, trembling on his knees, and felt a storm of emotions inside me.

I was furious that he would even think of protecting those monsters. However, my heart ached to see him, so old and frail, kneeling before me, begging for forgiveness.

That was when I learned that after his wife passed away years ago, Edward had to raise those kids alone. As he was always working, he left most of their care to the nanny.
