Bright Golden Light (Cooper)

2025-03-19 18:59:58I cry out as I open my eyes, and I find myself in my own tent, sweat covering my body. That was the scariest nightmare I have ever had. I sit up and look over and find Natalie still sound asleep. I have to get out of here and go hunting before I freak myself out even more.
I grab my gear for hunting and head out towards my dad’s hunting trail that he made before he died. Walking along I set up several traps so I have a high chance of catching something for Natalie and myself to eat. So I stumble through the woods which are still filled with darkness from the night before which causes me to remember my dream. I couldn’t stab Natalie not unless something had over powered me. Plus Natalie was wearing the same cloths in the dream, to what she is wearing now. She is just so beautiful I couldn’t imagine hurting her; I even hate seeing her in pain. As I walk back towards my camp and Natalie, I check the traps and what I find is a young deer. This is going to be great breakfast, I grab the sack, that I had over my shoulder and stuff the deer into the sack. I then haul the bag over my shoulder again and start walking but the deer is so heavy it still drags along the ground. Returning to my campsite takes twice as long because of the deer. Arriving back I drag it around and start cutting it up allowing Natalie and myself to have small but nice pieces of meat. Just as I finish cutting the young deer, I see a shimmer of light coming from the side of the clearing, it gets brighter and brighter. Then suddenly it appears right in front of me. I let out a small scream before racing into the tent to describe to Natalie what had just happened. “Natalie we have a problem, something weird has happened.” “What?” she screeches “Natalie come on!” “Cooper you have to pick me up, I still can’t walk.” she yells. I quickly grab her and practical run out of the tent. I sprint around the tent towards the other side. I go flying past the forgotten carcass and stop were I had been standing before the bow and quiver had appeared. “Will you be able to stand?” I ask, she nods her head. I slowly put her down, when she finally touches the ground she wobbles a bit. Then she takes a step forward and her ankle gives way, instantly I reach out and catch her, slowly pulling her back up into a standing position. Finally she is steady on her feet, and she takes a hesitant step forward, she wobbles a bit but does not fall, slowly but with more confidence she takes another step then another. Still the bow and quiver haven’t shown themselves and I am starting to think that I imagined them, Natalie probably thinks I am delusional. Suddenly she glances at me, I can see the question in her eyes “What was it?” I shrug and motion her forward inspired by the bright light that had suddenly appeared at the each of the clearing, but this time it seems brighter fuelled by something. It slowly comes closer and as it does the golden light around it gets brighter and brighter, then it is suddenly right in front of her. She reaches out a tentative hand and grabs the bow. Then just like that the golden light recedes and she is left with the most beautiful bow I have ever seen, it’s golden with small gems that line the wooden frame, the string is a nice silver that is really strong and the quiver is the same colour, the arrows are silver with a golden tips and there seems to have come with small throwing knives. Natalie slowly places the weapons on the ground and turns to me. Before I have a chance to move she throws her self into me. Her arms fly around my neck and she buries her head into my chest; slowly I wrap my hands around her small waist and hold her against me. I wish it could be this way between us. It just feels so natural, and then all too quickly she pulls away. “Thanks Cooper, thank you so much.” She says before she slowly walks back into the tent, and I return to the forgotten carcass.

Finding the bow and quiver had excited me and I wanted to get out here and find Ash and hope that he has also found his weapons so we can continue this war. I know I still have to relax my ankle and my back as well as my rib. This time my sleep is plagued by nightmares and dreams alike. But I only remember one dream, that still plagues my mind when I wake up. I cry out from shock as I am pulled out of the nightmare. My whole body is trembling and I am covered in sweat, which has drenched my clothing making them stick to my body. The image still haunts me, Ash calling out my name, his hand reaching down to grab my hand as I fall. Then suddenly the dream freezes and words appear in the sky in blood red writing. ‘There coming’ then it flickers ‘were coming, be ready.’ Then suddenly I am falling again, than just before I hit the ground it blacks out. That’s when I woke up. I lie there as still as possible, too scared to move. What if the dream was real? What if it was a warning? This dream makes me more motivated to speed up my recovery and find Ash, my adrenaline speeds up and I begin to feel restless. I have to find Ash but I will need Cooper’s help, which means I will have to tell him all the things he do

All I can think of is running, I can hear it coming behind me, giving chase like any predatory animal would do if they sensed easy prey. It’s morning and I don’t remember anything that happened last night, so when my alarm goes off saying it’s 7am, I climb out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen where the rest of my family should be. Slowly Ash climbs into the driver’s side of the vehicle and starts the car. At first there’s an awkward silence, because neither one of us knows the other. So Ash decides to start the conversation. “That was the best punch I have ever seen.’ At this point I’m too confused to reply because I have a billion thoughts going through my head, but he continues on without any comment from me anyway. “He didn’t even see it coming. I don’t think he was expecting you to punch him even though he was being a douche bag. At first I think he thought I was the one that punched him because he was looking at me and his eyes were screaming bloody murder. You were amazing, I didn’t think he would go so low to punch a girl, but I apparently was wrong about that too. I knew if he hit you that second time you would have got really injured so I jumped in front.” he concludes. This makes me lift my eyes to meet his. This stranger actually took a hit for me, a stranger I don’t even know, took a hit for me!

For a long while we just sit there in each other’s company, I look at the time and see that it’s all most 7pm. We’ve just been hanging in the car for more than 9 hours. My tummy grumbles and I realise I haven’t had any lunch let alone breakfast yet. “Would you like to come back to my place and finish this chat?” He agrees, as we begin to drive back Ash asks “Won’t it be weird with your family there?” I shake my head. Honestly my parents wouldn’t give a shit if I brought home a boy; they don’t even care about me to begin with. When we pull up at my house we see that the house is deserted, I simply pop the roller door and tell Ash to park on the far right because everyone in my family likes their own different spots and this one ended up being mine. “Natalie?” I say, trying to talk to her. “Yes, I was just thinking.” She says randomly, I chuckle at how stupid she just sounded. I was on my yearly hunt, but normally I would be with my family, except they died a few weeks ago. I don’t know what or how it happened I had just come home and they were all lying on the floor with pools of blood surrounding them. At first I had thought someone had murdered them but now I am not so sure. As I walk along a path my dad had made when we first started hunting, I find a rabbit trail that looks really fresh. As it gets later and I still am unable to stand, Cooper asks me if I would prefer to stay with him or if I wanted to leave. “Staying with you is probably safer then going out there into the wild when I can hardly walk.” He nods his head in agreement. I wake up to find that I am in someone’s arms, at first I think that Ash has found me, but I can tell by his deodorant that, that’s not the case. My body aches all over; it feels like I have broken every bone in my body. But at least I feel secure in who ever these arms belong too. So I drift back to sleep trying to get rid of the throbbing headache that now plagues me. When I wake up again, I am still in the stranger’s arms and he is still walking steadily, I feel slightly better this time. With only a small headache but my whole body is still on fire. And it flares up every time this guy takes a step. After what feels like an hour we arrive at a small clearing, in the clearing is a small tent, not much different from Ash’s and mine. Once out in the fresh air, I take a deep breath and zone in on all my 5 senses, I feel the warm breeze blowing my hair back from my face, smell the freshness of nature, taste the small mint that is still left in my mouth, I hear all the birds singing in the trees, all the crickets making buzzing noises in the grass surrounding me, all the larger animals running around and snapping leaves and small branches with there feet and of course the leaves rustling over head, due to the wind. I see hundreds of tree trunks, grass covered with leaves and small branches that have fallen from the trees. It is also very gloomy because it is still quite early in the morning and the sunlight rains down in patches landing in certain spots. As I daydream Ash walks up behind me and puts one of his hands on my shoulder. Snapping me back to reality. “Let’s get moving, do we have everything we need?” I run off a checklist “Sword, Shield, Bow, Quiver, Knives, water and food, including fruit and Vegetables
