I cry out as I open my eyes, and I find myself in my own tent, sweat covering my body. That was the scariest nightmare I have ever had. I sit up and look over and find Natalie still sound asleep. I have to get out of here and go hunting before I freak myself out even more.

I grab my gear for hunting and head out towards my dad’s hunting trail that he made before he died. Walking along I set up several traps so I have a high chance of catching something for Natalie and myself to eat. So I stumble through the woods which are still filled with darkness from the night before which causes me to remember my dream. I couldn’t stab Natalie not unless something had over powered me. Plus Natalie was wearing the same cloths in the dream, to what she is wearing now. She is just so beautiful I couldn’t imagine hurting her; I even hate seeing her in pain.

As I walk back towards my camp and Natalie, I check the traps and what I find is a young deer. This is going to be great breakfast, I grab the sack, that I had over my shoulder and stuff the deer into the sack. I then haul the bag over my shoulder again and start walking but the deer is so heavy it still drags along the ground. Returning to my campsite takes twice as long because of the deer. Arriving back I drag it around and start cutting it up allowing Natalie and myself to have small but nice pieces of meat. Just as I finish cutting the young deer, I see a shimmer of light coming from the side of the clearing, it gets brighter and brighter. Then suddenly it appears right in front of me. I let out a small scream before racing into the tent to describe to Natalie what had just happened.

“Natalie we have a problem, something weird has happened.”

“What?” she screeches

“Natalie come on!”

“Cooper you have to pick me up, I still can’t walk.”

she yells.

I quickly grab her and practical run out of the tent. I sprint around the tent towards the other side. I go flying past the forgotten carcass and stop were I had been standing before the bow and quiver had appeared.

“Will you be able to stand?” I ask, she nods her head. I slowly put her down, when she finally touches the ground she wobbles a bit. Then she takes a step forward and her ankle gives way, instantly I reach out and catch her, slowly pulling her back up into a standing position. Finally she is steady on her feet, and she takes a hesitant step forward, she wobbles a bit but does not fall, slowly but with more confidence she takes another step then another. Still the bow and quiver haven’t shown themselves and I am starting to think that I imagined them, Natalie probably thinks I am delusional.

Suddenly she glances at me, I can see the question in her eyes

“What was it?” I shrug and motion her forward inspired by the bright light that had suddenly appeared at the each of the clearing, but this time it seems brighter fuelled by something. It slowly comes closer and as it does the golden light around it gets brighter and brighter, then it is suddenly right in front of her.

She reaches out a tentative hand and grabs the bow. Then just like that the golden light recedes and she is left with the most beautiful bow I have ever seen, it’s golden with small gems that line the wooden frame, the string is a nice silver that is really strong and the quiver is the same colour, the arrows are silver with a golden tips and there seems to have come with small throwing knives. Natalie slowly places the weapons on the ground and turns to me. Before I have a chance to move she throws her self into me. Her arms fly around my neck and she buries her head into my chest; slowly I wrap my hands around her small waist and hold her against me. I wish it could be this way between us. It just feels so natural, and then all too quickly she pulls away.

“Thanks Cooper, thank you so much.” She says before she slowly walks back into the tent, and I return to the forgotten carcass.

Finding the bow and quiver had excited me and I wanted to get out here and find Ash and hope that he has also found his weapons so we can continue this war. I know I still have to relax my ankle and my back as well as my rib. So I will hopefully still be able to stay with Cooper for a day or two, the problem with that will be him asking questions, I can’t continue to lie to him, I have never been good with lies. I also fear growing to attach to him, which will cause a lot of problems as well. Sometimes I wish Cooper could see the monsters but I know he can’t. If he could that would mean he is the bad Ma Vista and he would have killed me while I was unconscious. So far this power I have is horrible and I could endanger a lot of people, especially the ones close to my heart, and I don’t want anything to happen to them. It’s an hour later and I smell something really good coming from outside, I also have not seen Cooper since the small incident that happened earlier; I hope he is no

I’m secretly hoping that he has finished asking questions but I’m wrong. “What do the monsters do?” “That’s a hard one, monsters are the cause of human deaths and abductions.” Cooper sucks in a sharp breath, then releases “How can I help you?” “Well first off, we need to find Ash, he will be the only other person in these mountains and if that’s not true, we are in trouble.” Cooper nods several times then without further conversation stands up and walks outside. All I can think of is running, I can hear it coming behind me, giving chase like any predatory animal would do if they sensed easy prey. I know it’s catching me, the heavy footsteps following in my wake. I scan the wilderness looking for a way to escape this nightmare, but there’s nothing, no tree high enough, no branch long enough. My only hope is to keep running. Flashing back to seconds earlier, the look on my best friend’s face as the beast appeared from the shadows of the trees is all I can see. We were in the mountains camping for our summer vacation, enjoying our time away from school. When this summer ends, I will be going into senior year, getting ready for college and life ahead. Now everything has changed. Alexandria and I were just sitting on the logs that surround the flickering flames of the fire. We were roasting marshmallows and enjoying our freedom away from home. When it emerged. Alexandria saw it first. At first it looked like a bear, but it was too big. Then it s

  • Nightmare   Summer Vacation (Natalie)

It’s morning and I don’t remember anything that happened last night, so when my alarm goes off saying it’s 7am, I climb out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen where the rest of my family should be. It’s a surprise when I enter the room and there’s no smell of toast or coffee which my mum has every morning before work. No smell of pancakes that my brother, Zac, cooks every morning before school. After I search the kitchen with no sign of any of them I go to their bedrooms and find them all still sound asleep. Is my clock wrong? I check mums nightstand and see that her clock reads the same as mine. Nope. Then it hits me, it’s the first day of summer vacation. Well that’s just great! There’s nothing I can do now so I go back and lay down on my bed. As I waited I glanced over at the mirrors on my wardrobe. My golden mane of curls looked like a tumble weed on my head and while this hair usually framed my pale face nicely, made it look like I’d tossed and turned all night. My usual s

  • Nightmare   Nick! (Natalie)

Climbing out of the car I try not to stare at the “good looking man” at the pump across from me. As I’m trying not to look like a complete stalker while filling up the car I see a flash of movement out of the corner of my eye. Turning slowly I see a familiar car pulling in behind me. Oh no, Nick. Okay, I know what you probably thinking. “Natalie, you have a crush on Nick!” Well that’s not true! The truth is, I use to have a crush on him when I was younger, but I’m over that now. Even though he is still pretty hot, I am over it, I swear. Nick is 18, one year older than me. As Nick gets out of the car I make a run for the cash register. I know Nick will recognise my Swift out the front and realise I’m inside. He will most likely come looking for me because we haven’t seen each other for one year, but I don’t want to see him right now. As I pay for the petrol I step backwards and bump into someone. I turn around and look straight into the good looking man’s deep brown eyes. At first I’m

  • Nightmare   Mysterious Ash (Natalie)

Slowly Ash climbs into the driver’s side of the vehicle and starts the car. At first there’s an awkward silence, because neither one of us knows the other. So Ash decides to start the conversation. “That was the best punch I have ever seen.’ At this point I’m too confused to reply because I have a billion thoughts going through my head, but he continues on without any comment from me anyway. “He didn’t even see it coming. I don’t think he was expecting you to punch him even though he was being a douche bag. At first I think he thought I was the one that punched him because he was looking at me and his eyes were screaming bloody murder. You were amazing, I didn’t think he would go so low to punch a girl, but I apparently was wrong about that too. I knew if he hit you that second time you would have got really injured so I jumped in front.” he concludes. This makes me lift my eyes to meet his. This stranger actually took a hit for me, a stranger I don’t even know, took a hit for me!

My tummy grumbles and I realise I haven’t had any lunch let alone breakfast yet. “Would you like to come back to my place and finish this chat?” He agrees, as we begin to drive back Ash asks “Won’t it be weird with your family there?” I shake my head. Honestly my parents wouldn’t give a shit if I brought home a boy; they don’t even care about me to begin with. When we pull up at my house we see that the house is deserted, I simply pop the roller door and tell Ash to park on the far right because everyone in my family likes their own different spots and this one ended up being mine. As I give him the usual house tour he asks “Have you ever met someone you thought might be evil?” “No.” I say “but I have always wondered if the monsters in my dreams were real.” That makes him laugh, I’m not entirely sure why but I start

“Natalie?” I say, trying to talk to her. “Yes, I was just thinking.” She says randomly, I chuckle at how stupid she just sounded. She roles over and winces from what I believe is pain. “We need to do something about your injuries are you comfortable enough with me to let me do it.” I ask she looks me in the eye and nods. As I check over her body I notice that she has a sprained ankle or twisted ankle and might also have a broken rib. She also has several bruises adorning her body, especially over her back. She ask me what time it was that I found her, but I have no idea what time that was because I didn’t have a watch so I just make it up. Her face seems to pale from the information I give her; I wonder how long she had been lying there before I had found her. “When I found you at the bottom of the hill, my first thought was that you were dead. Then I noticed that you were breathing, so I calmed down a bit then I started wondering what you were doing in the mountains, that

I was on my yearly hunt, but normally I would be with my family, except they died a few weeks ago. I don’t know what or how it happened I had just come home and they were all lying on the floor with pools of blood surrounding them. At first I had thought someone had murdered them but now I am not so sure. As I walk along a path my dad had made when we first started hunting, I find a rabbit trail that looks really fresh. I follow it through the woods until I see something that makes my insides freeze. There only three meters away from me lying on her back is a girl, her arms and legs going in many different angles. Slowly I walk towards the body, unsure whether she is alive or dead. As I get closer I am relieved to see a small rise and fall of the girls chest. What the hell is she doing here alone? When I am standing above her I look down at the girls face and I am struck with a strange emotion I have never felt before. But the girl lying before me is gorgeous; I have never seen any

As it gets later and I still am unable to stand, Cooper asks me if I would prefer to stay with him or if I wanted to leave. “Staying with you is probably safer then going out there into the wild when I can hardly walk.” He nods his head in agreement. I glance up for the first time and actually look at him. He has bright orange hair, greyish-blue eyes and a small amount of freckles that dash across his cheeks, his hair is cut short like Ash’s but his fringe is shorter. He is lean and muscular, I should have figured that out when he said he carried me for three hours. He looks very athletic and is pretty attractive, he also has a nice personality and is very caring, and I immediately take a liking to him. Before we go to sleep Cooper moves the sleeping bag so I have my own room, he then puts all his luggage in the middle and makes himself a bed on the other side. Before I go to sleep I have to ask “Cooper?”
 “Yes.” he mumbles.
“Why are you in the mountains?”

I wake up to find that I am in someone’s arms, at first I think that Ash has found me, but I can tell by his deodorant that, that’s not the case. My body aches all over; it feels like I have broken every bone in my body. But at least I feel secure in who ever these arms belong too. So I drift back to sleep trying to get rid of the throbbing headache that now plagues me. When I wake up again, I am still in the stranger’s arms and he is still walking steadily, I feel slightly better this time. With only a small headache but my whole body is still on fire. And it flares up every time this guy takes a step. After what feels like an hour we arrive at a small clearing, in the clearing is a small tent, not much different from Ash’s and mine. He must sense that I am awake because he starts talking to me. “Hi, you’re lucky I found you, a few hours longer and you would have died.” His voice is smooth and light it almost most makes me go back to sleep. “You know, you could actually say

I see hundreds of tree trunks, grass covered with leaves and small branches that have fallen from the trees. It is also very gloomy because it is still quite early in the morning and the sunlight rains down in patches landing in certain spots. As I daydream Ash walks up behind me and puts one of his hands on my shoulder. Snapping me back to reality. “Let’s get moving, do we have everything we need?” I run off a checklist “Sword, Shield, Bow, Quiver, Knives, water and food, including fruit and Vegetables
