I cry out as I open my eyes, and I find myself in my own tent, sweat covering my body. That was the scariest nightmare I have ever had. I sit up and look over and find Natalie still sound asleep. I have to get out of here and go hunting before I freak myself out even more. I grab my gear for hunting and head out towards my dad’s hunting trail that he made before he died. Walking along I set up several traps so I have a high chance of catching something for Natalie and myself to eat. So I stumble through the woods which are still filled with darkness from the night before which causes me to remember my dream. I couldn’t stab Natalie not unless something had over powered me. Plus Natalie was wearing the same cloths in the dream, to what she is wearing now. She is just so beautiful I couldn’t imagine hurting her; I even hate seeing her in pain. As I walk back towards my camp and Natalie, I check the traps and what I find is a young deer. This is going to be great breakfast, I grab
Finding the bow and quiver had excited me and I wanted to get out here and find Ash and hope that he has also found his weapons so we can continue this war. I know I still have to relax my ankle and my back as well as my rib. So I will hopefully still be able to stay with Cooper for a day or two, the problem with that will be him asking questions, I can’t continue to lie to him, I have never been good with lies. I also fear growing to attach to him, which will cause a lot of problems as well. Sometimes I wish Cooper could see the monsters but I know he can’t. If he could that would mean he is the bad Ma Vista and he would have killed me while I was unconscious. So far this power I have is horrible and I could endanger a lot of people, especially the ones close to my heart, and I don’t want anything to happen to them. It’s an hour later and I smell something really good coming from outside, I also have not seen Cooper since the small incident that happened earlier; I hope he is no
This time my sleep is plagued by nightmares and dreams alike. But I only remember one dream, that still plagues my mind when I wake up. I cry out from shock as I am pulled out of the nightmare. My whole body is trembling and I am covered in sweat, which has drenched my clothing making them stick to my body. The image still haunts me, Ash calling out my name, his hand reaching down to grab my hand as I fall. Then suddenly the dream freezes and words appear in the sky in blood red writing. ‘There coming’ then it flickers ‘were coming, be ready.’ Then suddenly I am falling again, than just before I hit the ground it blacks out. That’s when I woke up. I lie there as still as possible, too scared to move. What if the dream was real? What if it was a warning? This dream makes me more motivated to speed up my recovery and find Ash, my adrenaline speeds up and I begin to feel restless. I have to find Ash but I will need Cooper’s help, which means I will have to tell him all the things he do
We sit in silence for a few minutes while Cooper processes what I have shared with him. I’m secretly hoping that he has finished asking questions but I’m wrong. “What do the monsters do?” “That’s a hard one, monsters are the cause of human deaths and abductions.” Cooper sucks in a sharp breath, then releases “How can I help you?” “Well first off, we need to find Ash, he will be the only other person in these mountains and if that’s not true, we are in trouble.” Cooper nods several times then without further conversation stands up and walks outside. I lay there stunned at how quickly he believed me “Cooper?” I call out “Yes.” Is his reply, but it sounded very far away. “What are you doing?” “I am starting to pack away all the stuff outside so we can make a quick get away tomorrow. If you wouldn’t mind, could you start shoving all the stuff that is not in a bag, into a bag? That would be lovely. I will tell you more when I am finished out here.” As I go through all of
While Cooper places all of his luggage and possessions into his car that is parked about 5 kilometres away from the campsite. I grab my new bow and have a bit of a practice. My ankle is still a little sore and my rib is taking it’s time to heal, but all I want to do is get away from this place and far away from Aidan, whoever that guy was. With the bow in my hand I feel complete as I walk into the undergrowth of the trees, that once was my greatest enemy, now my greatest ally. I set up several targets, carving crosses into the bark of the trees, some in front, some behind and some to the sides, so I can practice speed and change of direction. I start with the ones in front making sure that I have my usual rhythm then I speed up until I am shooting 1 arrow a second. Every arrow I release thunks as it hits its target. Then I start to move around changing directions really fast and still every arrow hits it’s target. While I do this I let go of all of my frustrations, confusion, anger
We make our way through the trees until we come to a clearing. We spread out so we can search the clearing faster, Cooper knows we are looking for Ash but Lyrica doesn’t know the full story yet. Once we have thoroughly searched the clearing we head on our way, continuing through the dense trees that surround and swallows us whole. I allow myself to look at the beauty that surrounds me, not for the first time I am completely taken by how well preserved it is, thanks to most of mankind because they are to scared to come here, the beautiful forest still remains intact and complete. I look around searching for all the animals and the animals that are making the sounds that fill the silence, there are some birds chirping in the trees, but the animals are to well hidden by the thick layer of leaves that block out the sunlight and the sky. I imagine myself in thirty years from now still looking the same age and still felling young running around the mountains with Ash who is now my husband
We search for hours, with no sign of him and as soon as the sun disappears behind the trees, we have to give up the search until tomorrow. We set up camp and we are lucky to find out that Lyrica has her own tent that she can sleep in, we all say goodnight and go to sleep. The next morning as soon as the sun’s first light shines onto the tent I am awake. My heart beats fast as I remember what the monster had said. You have three days to find him, 3 days and I am already down one day. Which means if I don’t find him soon, he dies, or I die, I don’t know which one, and so I need to find him soon. Quickly I change out of the clothes I was wearing last night and into my other clothes, which are Cooper’s; but they fit me, just. I climb over Cooper and exit the tent. I grab my bow and quiver as well, just in case they plan a surprise attack. I run around the clearing searching for anything that could resemble something of Ash’s. It isn’t until I roll my ankle by falling into a hole that w
Natalie grabs my hand and glances towards the pile of bones. “We will have time to talk later, but right now we have to go, we are running out of time.” She says. I nod my head in understanding and grip her hand even tighter and she returns the gesture. We crawl through the tunnel side by side; the tunnel is quite dark and smells really bad which I am guessing is because of the rotting dead bodies that are at the end of the tunnel. The tunnel feels like it goes forever just because I really want to talk to her. Finally we reach the end of the tunnel and find ourselves in a large hole. Natalie climbs out first and then she takes off running in the direction of the tents that are on the other side of the clearing. When we finally make it to the tents, Natalie calls out “Cooper? Lyrica?” A million thoughts are travelling through my brain. Who is this Cooper? And who is Lyrica? What happened to Nat when she fell? Should I tell her all about finding the sword? All about what happe
Then I look back up at my dad, he seems worried, really worried. The light from the sun is starting to disappear so it must be getting late. He glances back in the direction that I just ran off in, before turning and sprinting off in the opposite direction. After running a kilometre or so, I realise that we are at the same clearing that Natalie found Ash in. Dad keeps looking around, and as I follow the direction of his gaze I finally see what a monster looks like. I can’t tell if it is because I can see with dad’s eyes or if the master is allowing me to see it. But it is the most grotesque thing I have ever seen in my life, slowly the monster approaches, it’s massive. The colour of it is so dark it’s looks like it is as black as night, with the most crimson eyes I have every seen. Dad grabs an arrow and aims it at the monster. Abruptly, a deep raspy voice emits from its mouth “I wouldn’t do that if I were you Ma Vista.” I am taken aback, wait, what did he just say? I know what he
As soon as the battle started, everyone was lost in the fray, I saw Natalie run in one direction and Ash tried to follow but I am guessing to many monsters had crowded him because he had to stop and all I could see was the light reflecting off his sword as he cut them down, well I think he cut them down. I decide to stick with Lyrica, more so now after our new relationship has bloomed. I see people being cut down everywhere, most injured but others it’s hard to tell. I also see a lot of sand bags bursting as they hit the hidden monsters. It doesn’t take long before Lyrica and I are standing back-to-back, surround by the invisible monsters. I swing my sword sometimes I feel the hit but other times it only feels like air. My sword just seems to never find a purchase; I can tell that Lyrica is finding it to be quite frustrating as I hear her swinging her sword and hearing the sound of the air swishing past the shape blade. We must fight for hours, before long I am exhausted and I still h
It’s not long until I find both of them standing in a corner out of sight from the street in case any monsters decided to attack them. I race towards Ash happy that he isn’t injured yet. “It’s so good to know that you are okay. Have you heard of any losses yet?” “I saw one of Riley’s group go down, but that’s all I know of. How are you going?” “I’m okay, that’s not good, have you seen Cooper or Lyrica or Alex?” “No as soon as the battle started I lost sight of them.” “Okay, well I came to find you so we could stick together and watch each others backs.” “Yeah, that’s a great idea. By the way have you seen the large black monster that appeared in our last nightmare?” “No, but when I do I’m taking him down.” “And I will be right beside you.” “Okay we should probably head back out, remember we are looking for the master, I have tried to get into his head but he seems to be blocking me and I have a feeling that some of the monsters are helping with that.” “How do y
By the time we have everyone up and in the lounge room we have lost half an hour. Everyone looks panicked and unfocused. “Alright guys, the time has come for us to band together to beat this evil that has descended upon us.” With that I grab Ash’s hand and walk towards the front door, they quickly fall into step behind me. We walk onto the street and then onto the main high way that runs through Frostvale. I make sure that everyone still has all their weapons as well as their sand bags and then we stand in a line, restricting any of the monsters to penetrate further into the town. We stand for close to maybe an hour, waiting, just waiting for any sign of movement or panic. Just when I am about to give the signal to dismiss and go back to the house, we hear screams in the distance. Then sure enough I see the monsters and my brain nearly explodes. There must be hundreds of them, maybe even nearly a thousand. They are all walking along the road and in the hands of some of them, are th
While Ash and I are collecting the last weapons from the garage to hand out among the fighters, I am struck by a message, and it doesn’t take me long to realise that I am not meant to hear it. A small voice in the back of my head calling me “Come now monsters join the battle, I need you here now. It’s been a long time since we have had the chance to destroy the Ma Vista’s and that time has come.” The voice stops. I look at Ash; he must see the horror in my face, because he immediately drops the weapons that are in his hands and runs over to me. I look into his brown eyes and see the question he doesn’t want to ask. I nod my head; he grabs my hand in an iron tight grip and grabs the weapons he dropped earlier. We race out the door and head toward where the rest of the group are waiting. As we arrive, everyone that has agreed to fight against the invisible monsters walk into Ash’s lounge room. “Everyone the time has come. We need to take arms, fight together and work togethe
We lay tangled in each other’s arms for what feels like ages before I finally decide that I should have a shower, and I disentangle myself from him. Then suddenly a thought of a Blue monster flicks through my mind. Oh, shit we forgot about Blue, we left him at the front door. “Ash?” “Yes, Nat?” “We completely forgot about Blue.” “Shit, okay you go have your shower and I will go check up on him and make sure that everything is going okay.” “Okay that sounds good.” I walk over to him and claim his lips one more time before I leave the room. As I walk down the hall I run into Lyrica. “Natalie oh my gosh, you’re back.” “Yeah it’s so good to see you Lyrica.” She seems to take in my appearance and smirks. “And it seems as though you have been quite busy since you got back.” I feel my cheeks redden with a slight blush as I drop my head to look at the floor. “Don’t feel ashamed honey, at least no one walk in on you.” I look at her in confusion before the answer hits me.
“I am so happy that you are back.” “Not as much as I am, I was so sick of being stuck in a cage, the master visited me like every day. And most of all I just missed you.” “All I could remember was, what happened before the shower and how it was my fault that you were taken because I went to have a shower and left you unprotected.” “Ash, don’t be ridiculous, it was not your fault I should have had my bow with me.” We make it to the door and stop walking, Ash looks at me and I see longing in his eyes. “Nat, I have so much to tell you, so much happened and I don’t know when I will get the time to tell you about it.” “Tonight, after we have seen everyone, I am really tired and would love to have a proper bed to lay on.” “Hahaha, so true, well lets go in then.” We walk through the door and I see people everywhere. “Who are all these people?” I ask with wonder. “All of them are willing to lay down there life in order to save the world against the monsters.” He points
The escape from the house was easier then expected, as we race across the yard there are no monster insight. Blue had chosen the right moment for my escape, and now I owe him. Once we are outside the houses boundaries Blue pulls up and stops running, which causes me to dive to the side to prevent running into the ginormous monster, and even though he is young he is still quite big. “This is where we must disappear.” I look at him, and nod, “Okay.” He grabs me under the shoulders and under my knees then lifts me up before we disappear. Disappearing is so weird; it’s so hard to explain. I feel wind pushing against my face; it pushes me back against Blue. I can’t see anything, it’s just black all around and yet I can’t actually tell if my eyes are open or closed. All I can hear is Blue’s breathing, there is no wind blowing and yet I can feel it against my face. There is no smell; actually I don’t think I am breathing. We seem to be in the void for what feels like hours, but turns out
Quickly I dial Riley’s number and wait for him to pick up. “Hello, who is it?” “Hey Riley, it’s Ash.” “Yep, what’s happening?” “I need you and your friends to come back to my house, are you nearly finished with all the sand?” “Yeah, we are about to leave.” “Great I have sent Lyrica to get bags to put the sand in, and I have also got one of Natalie’s friends out collecting people that are willing to fight for our cause.” “That’s great, okay well I will meet you at your house in about 10.” “Okay that sounds great, so where did you get the sand from?” “I know this person that works at the zoo, and he said I could take some sand from the enclosures.” “Perfect, okay see you soon.” “Yep, bye.” “Bye.” As soon as he hangs up I walk into the kitchen and sit down. This would be so much easier with Natalie here; I hope she is okay and that the master and the monsters haven’t hurt her. I can’t wait until I can have her in my arms again, and this time I don’t plan on letting go. The
