My heart thrummed as I studied the map glowing on the table. It blew my mind that Holden had been able to invent such a device. Sure, I’d seen something like this in the movies on TV, but it was something else altogether when it was displayed right before our eyes.

All the information seemed overwhelming. The threat was real—I had no doubt about that—and it was lurking like a dark shadow on the edges of my pack’s borders. A lump of fear clogged my throat. Traces of the metallic shimmer flickered in my vision. If it weren’t for Ciara’s hand on my knee, keeping me grounded, I think it may have barreled me over.

A warm tingle came over my body and my thoughts. I knew Ciara felt my panic more than the rest of the pack. She squeezed my knee, reassuring me all was fine. As much as I wanted to believe that it was, a new panic coursed through me.

What if I’m not good enough? What would Titus do in this situation? Would he plow through the forest and take them down right now?
