Chapter 91

AP’s voice crackled like a jackhammer, disrupting the peaceful darkness that cocooned me. For a moment, I wondered if what I was hearing was real or just part of some new dream I was stepping into. But with each new beep, I knew I wouldn’t be able to claw my way back to sleep.

Slowly, I lifted an eyelid as I stretched my arm across the bed, hunting for Cillian to make it stop. The cold sheets shocked me awake and I shot up, searching for Cillian. A sudden panic came over me like a blow dart to my stomach. The panic was fleeting as I let my mind wander and sniffed the air. Cillian’s musky scent hit my nose, and I instantly relaxed as the crackling from a walkie-talkie caught my attention.

Looking around the room, I tried to find the walkie talkie but couldn’t see it. I pulled the sheets to my chest and tilted my head as I concentrated on pinpointing where the noise was coming from.
