More Doubts

Daon’s point of view.

I went from heaven to hell in an instant. My heart shattered just like that plate, and I sighed, stifling the tears that wanted to fall as I clenched my fists.

"What happened, Jane?" I asked, praying she had a good excuse for being so nervous.

"My hand cramped up," she said simply, smiling nonchalantly.

I stared at her hand, praying that was all it was, but I couldn’t come to a conclusion. When we lay down, she snuggled up to my chest, and I wondered if she had done this with him. Had he seen her sleeping with her lips slightly parted? Did she love him? Surely, he had feelings for her, but did she reciprocate?

I couldn’t sleep, staring at the ceiling and coming up with a thousand theories to justify or confirm my suspicion. When it was already past three in the morning, I got up and went to the living room. I poured myself a glass of whiskey and sprawled on the couch, trying to get rid of these thoughts.
