Chapter Seventy Three - Research

“What are you so mad about?” I asked, my voice rising as I watched Giovanni tighten his grip on the steering wheel.

“You’re lying to me, that’s why,” he shot back, his tone matching mine. Suddenly, I screamed as the car swerved dangerously close to the vehicle in front of us when the traffic light turned red.

“Are you crazy? Giovanni, stop! You could get us both killed!” I yelled, my heart pounding in my chest.

Giovanni’s jaw clenched, but he didn’t respond. The rest of the drive was silent, filled with tension. When we finally got home, I headed straight to my room without looking back. I expected Giovanni to follow me, to yell, to punish me, but he didn’t.

I didn’t care that he was mad, what is it to him that I lied? I am more worried about my life span whenever I am with him. One wrong move, he could end me.

Fine, let him stew in his anger, I thought. I had more important things to worry about. I needed to start my research.
