Such a pity

The door creaked open, and I turned to see Mia standing there. She didn't look so good, especially with the frown marred on her face. Her usually bright eyes were dull and filled with unshed tears. My excitement about her dinner date with Liam instantly turned into concern.

“Mia! How did it go?” I asked, trying to keep my voice light and hopeful.

She didn’t respond right away. Instead, she moved to the sofa and collapsed onto it, her shoulders sagging as she heaved a sigh.

“It started well… but it ended badly,” she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“What happened?” I pressed, wanting to get a grasp of what happened. She was excited when she left and I thought she would be happier coming back. I wasn't expecting her to come looking like this, like an abandoned puppy.

Mia took a deep breath, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I asked Liam to be my chosen mate… to complete the mating bond and awaken my dragon. And he turned me down.”

She revealed, her face crestfallen.
