Liam sits in front of me, his casual stance infuriating. How could he be so calm, so smug, when he knew exactly who Mia was to me?

"I’m warning you, Liam," I growl, my fists clenched at my sides. "Stay away from her. Mia is my mate."

Instead of backing down like I expect, Liam throws his head back and laughs, the sound grating against my nerves.

"Your mate?" he repeats, still chuckling. "You act like that changes anything. Do you really think a bond is enough to keep her safe from what's coming?"

My anger flares, the wolf inside me snarling, pushing at the surface. He wasn’t taking me seriously, and it only stoked the rage brewing in my chest. I take a step forward, letting my presence loom over him.

"I don’t care what you think is coming," I bite out. "She’s mine. And I’ll make sure you regret ever crossing her.”
