Kit’s POV

The feeling of a cool cloth on my face startled me awake, as my eyes focused on Ms. Caroline standing over me. “Easy child. I felt a fever coming on, and I am just trying to bring it down before it escalates.” She said to me with kindness in her eyes, and I let myself relax back onto my pillow, knowing that it was her, and that she was trying to help me.

My nerves were on edge with what had happened earlier, and I found myself uneasy, but knowing that Ms. Caroline was here, I knew that I was in good hands. “I never thought that they would come for you.” Ms. Caroline says as she pulls the cloth from my head, and puts it in a basin of water, I am sure to cool it back off.

“I was more concerned about your sister and her children’s wellbeing. I never would have thought they would have come for you. I should have insisted on staying on staff.” Ms. Caroline now says to me, as if she was taking responsibility for what had happened to me, but I was ha
