44. Information About Kate

“It's getting late; we'll stop the search here. We should go home now to rest. We'll resume the search tomorrow morning.” Leonardo made a decision.

They got back into the car and drove at high speed back to the base.

Alex drove with his gaze focused on the road. While Leonardo stared out the window. His gaze focused through the window glass. While his mind drifted somewhere.

Leonardo played with Dante's ring in his hand. There is only one question that is now lodged in his mind: Is Caterina okay now?

The car stopped when they arrived at their destination. Leonardo got out without saying a word; he walked with an empty feeling towards his luxurious mansion. Ben immediately ran over. The man's face looked very radiant.

“Sir, I found evidence of Kate's whereabouts at a convenience store in the city of Taxco.” Ben gave an impassioned report. Taxco is three hours away from Mexico City.

Leonardo was quite surprised when he heard Ben's report. How could that be? If Caterina can go in and out of the convenience store, it means that Caterina is fine. Was Caterina actually never kidnapped? Maybe everything was arranged by Caterina to eliminate her traces.

“Where did you get this photo?” Leonardo asked for confirmation. He didn't want to drive straight to Taxco City because he didn't want to be disappointed again. If Ben had met Caterina there, he should have gone straight to her and brought her back.

“I got it from someone on a poster I put up.”

“You distributed posters?” Leonardo was very surprised when he heard his men's answer. He had already said that spreading posters about Caterina and Dante's disappearance would provoke other enemies to come out and hunt Caterina. It was an act that endangered Caterina's life. Why was Ben so careless?

“I spread the posters in the school's alumni group. It just so happened that one of my friends worked at the convenience store and saw where Kate was. He wasn't sure it was really Kate, so he took a picture of her and sent it to me.”

Leonardo breathed a sigh of relief after he heard Ben's explanation. He had been anxious, fearing that Caterina's life would be further endangered if his men worked carelessly.

Leonardo looked at the photo carefully. At first glance, it was very similar to Caterina. But who was the man beside her? The man was wearing a mask and hat, while his body was covered by the hoodie he was wearing. It was hard to recognize him. If Caterina had been kidnapped and hidden, she would never have been brought into public view. Especially without using disguises to cover her face, such as a mask and hat, like the man beside her.

“She looks happy.” Alex commented.

Leonardo was silent. She looks happy. The words rang in Leonardo's ears. How could Caterina be happy with another man out there while he was being tortured by longing? He does not accept if there is another man who now inhabits Caterina's heart. Only he could live in her heart; there was no place for another man in that heart.

“Is that Gabriel?” Leonardo wondered.

“Isn't Gabriel already dead? There's no way he could have survived with such a fatal gunshot wound.” Alex reminded.

Remembering his cruelty to Gabriel, Leonardo became a little regretful. Because he shot Gabriel, Caterina came to hate him. At that time he was carried away, so he could not control himself not to shoot Gabriel. His power made his empathy disappear.

“We'd better get there now.” Ben said excitedly. Finally, the effort he had put in this month had paid off.

Leonardo looked discouraged.

“I think it's just someone who looks like her. Kate must be being held captive right now.” Leonardo still followed his ego. He couldn't accept seeing Caterina happy with another man. He dismissed the fact that it was a picture of the woman he had been searching for for a month. He dismissed the fact that Caterina had really stopped loving him.

“Sir, I don't think it would hurt for us to go there and check. It could be Kate. If we misidentify people, at least we'll only waste time and effort. If we don't go there to confirm and it turns out to be Kate, we'll just be wasting more time and effort elsewhere.” Alex made a suggestion.

Leonardo looked very indecisive. He was not ready to accept the fact if it turned out to be Caterina with the new man in her life. He couldn't believe Caterina could move on so quickly. While he was made to suffer from feelings of guilt and longing.

“Alex is right, sir. We better make sure it's Kate or not. If you're reluctant to leave, just give us the order.”
