Chapter 2

Ten minutes earlier, Quinn's mother, Laura Wallace, had barged into the house with her son, Hugo Langdon.

She looked inside the empty house and gave a long sigh of relief.

"That good-for-nothing, Evan, actually went to create trouble at the wedding. I was worried he would take this house away. If that happens, you won't be able to get married."

"Take this house away?" Hugo, who looked like a young university student, spat the words out with disdain.

"He's not good enough. He's meant to be a deliveryman. My girlfriend said that she'll only marry me if I have a house, and Quinn already promised to give this house to me."

He mumbled as he picked up his phone and started playing with it while seated on the couch.

Laura called Quinn on the phone. She was relieved to find out from Quinn that they had managed to throw Evan out of the wedding.

"That's enough, Hugo. Stop playing with your games. Your sister is still waiting for you. The wedding is important. That good-for-nothing hasn't…"

The door was suddenly pushed open, startling Hugo and Laura. They immediately got unfriendly when they saw who it was.

"Evan?! How dare you come here?!"

"Why can't I be here? You've taken everything I own. I'm the victim. I should come here and take a look."

Evan smiled while he was saying this, but his gaze was cold.

"I don't need to hold back on my words now that I'm here."

Laura was taken aback, but a look of disgust quickly appeared in her eyes.

"I'll be straight with you. You're just a lousy deliveryman now. You should take a good look at yourself in the mirror. You have no money, no car, and no house. Who do you think you are? My Quinn is meant to marry an important man like Sean!

"A good-for-nothing like you should know what's good for you and get out right now. Otherwise, we'll take action against you!"

Evan threw them a strange look. He was completely disgusted with them.

He had houses, cars, and money.

However, it was because of love that he chose to unconditionally provide for whatever this family wanted no matter how twisted their demands were. Yet, all he got from this was shameless rebuke from them.

"You wanted 880 grand as a betrothal gift, and I delivered. You wanted ten bars of gold instead of three, and I gave you that. I even gave you 660 grand on the day of the wedding."

The look in Evan's eyes turned increasingly cold.

"When you told me you had no insurance for your old age, I transferred 20 grand to you every month for your expenses. Even when I was bankrupt and could only give you five grand, I had never stopped giving you money for the past four years. How could you point fingers at me now?"

The most painful thing to experience in this world was to be betrayed by the people one trusted the most.

"I expected you to know right from wrong as a mother, but I was too naive. How can a dirty sewer produce a perfectly clean rat?" Evan said coldly.

"A rat will always be a rat. It'll forever be dirty and despicable, always disgusting.

"I've changed my mind now. You have to return every cent of my money that you've spent over the past years. I won't let you have this house either!"
