Chapter 4

Hugo was too scared to say anything and stared viciously at Evan instead.

Deidre followed behind Evan as she quietly thought about how cold Evan was. She was the young heiress of the Nolans. Many young heirs and successors of influential families could not wait to shake her hand.

Yet Evan refused to even give her a second look when she held her hand up to him.

Hugo quickly stood up from the ground after Deidre and Evan left to wake Laura up.

Laura woke up in a daze. "Argh, it hurts."

She touched her swollen face and said hatefully, "Where's Evan and that slut?"

Hugo was still feeling scared about what happened. "They're gone."

"Gone? How could you let them leave just like that?"

Laura was unhappy about this. "Get up. Come with me to go after them. That damned Evan found himself a mistress to hit me. I've never suffered like this before. I can't let them get away with this. I want them dead."

"Mom, let's not do that."

Hugo was still fearful. "We should go home and ask Quinn to get revenge for us. That slut has muscular bodyguards. I won't be able to fight them on my own."

"Alright. Let's go home to see Quinn right now and get her to take revenge for us."

Laura decided to hold back her anger for now as she was reminded of how she had passed out from just one slap from them.

Hugo and Laura walked out of there with each other's help.

That was when Hugo was suddenly reminded of something. He said, "By the way, Mom, Evan said that he's taking the Lush Riviera villa."

"He wouldn't dare!"

Laura's eyes widened with anger. "The villa is under Quinn's name, not his. He has no right to take it back. He shouldn't dream of taking anything from our house. Also, he has to give us back that Dragon Emerald no matter what!"

They walked into the street and suddenly saw a convoy of Maybachs parked tidily opposite the street. There were more than ten of them there.

"My gosh! Which rich family do they belong to? What an entrance!"

Hugo gulped as he watched in shock.

Laura was in a daze. "If only our family could do that one day too."

"Mom, I… I think I just saw Evan in one of those cars!" Hugo pointed at the convoy in shock.

"Were you beaten silly?"

Laura rubbed Hugo's head. "Evan is a good-for-nothing. He can't afford to be in that kind of car. I know you hate Evan. Don't worry. I'll make sure to drag him in front of you and have him kneel in apology!"

Evan's eyes were closed as he rested inside the car.

Deidre watched him from the corner of her eye. He looked ordinary from afar, but her father had told her before about Evan being extraordinary. She was wondering if she had gotten the wrong person.

"Mr. Carlton, I'll explain the situation to you."

Deidre spoke up slowly, "Last month, several high-management executives from the Nolans contracted a strange disease. We spent a lot of money to hire renowned doctors from all over the world, but none of them could figure anything out about it.

"Many of our projects were forced to be stopped because of this, but fortunately, news of it hasn't leaked yet. Otherwise, it would've affected the Nolans badly. You're the only person we can depend on now.

"These are their medical reports. Please have a look at them, Mr. Carlton."

Deidre passed the reports over to Evan.

"That's not necessary."

Evan opened his eyes. "You wouldn't have come to me if I couldn't treat them."

Deidre was taken aback. Did he really think he was able to cure them without reading the medical reports?

From her point of view, Evan was not confident but rather arrogant. However, this piqued her interest in him.

"Alright. I'll trust you with this, Mr. Carlton."

She leaned in closer to Evan and gave a soft laugh. "If you can help the Nolans get through this, I'll do whatever you want, Mr. Carlton."

Deidre crossed her long, slender legs to showcase her sexy charm.

"I'm not interested in whatever you're offering."

Evan did not give her a glance and even pushed her aside. "You don't need to give me anything."

Deidre was taken aback. She did not expect Evan to push her away so unfeelingly. She had a great body and a beautiful face. She had a cold and distant personality that evoked men's desire to conquer her.

However, Evan was not interested at all.

Was she not charming enough, or was Evan not a normal man?

It was the first time Deidre doubted herself.

Meanwhile, Laura and Hugo returned home with bruises all over them.

"Mom, Hugo, how did you get hurt? What happened?"

Quinn was shocked to see them that way.

"This is all because of that bastard, Evan! Hugo and I wanted him to hand the necklace over, but he refused and even beat us up!"

Laura accused him angrily, "We used to feed and house that ungrateful bastard for free, but he turned his back on us the moment you got divorced. If we hadn't been quick to escape, we would've died in his hands."

Quinn frowned. "Evan was the one who hurt you?"

Even though she looked down on Evan, Quinn knew him well. Evan had always been gentle and had tolerated the Langdons for the past three years. He would never hit anyone.

"Who else if not him?" Laura clenched her teeth and continued, "He lied to you, Quinn. He only pretended to be a good man. Evan was mad about you getting together with Sean and divorcing him, which was why he hit us."

Hugo said viciously, "Quinn, Evan is seeing another woman behind your back. That slut even brought bodyguards who almost killed us."

"Evan has another woman?" The look on Quinn's face changed. "Did you make a mistake about that, Hugo?"

Evan was supposed to be an honest man. Had he been cheating on her?

"It's no mistake. Just ask Mom!" Hugo grunted coldly. "Evan has been pretending to be pitiful, but he showed us his true colors this time. He even said he wanted to take back that villa in Lush Riviera and refused to give it to us. Just ask him if you don't believe it."

"He's right." Laura was seething. "Quinn, I suspect Evan took your money to support his mistress!"

Quinn's expression turned dark when she heard this. If that was true, she would not let this go. It was fine if she cheated but not when it came to Evan!

Evan was a useless man who was not good enough for her. She had a reason to cheat. What reason could there be for Evan to cheat?

"Mom, is Dad home?"

That was when her daughter, Ruby Langdon, walked out of the room.

Laura got mad just looking at the tender little face and slapped Ruby. "Your father is dead, you little bastard!"
