Chapter 5

Margot was taken aback. "What are you talking about?"

"Listen, from now on, don't bother Tammy. Be good and don't put me in a tough spot, alright?"

Without letting Margot answer, he continued, "That's it. I'm hanging up now."

Before Margot had time to defend herself, Curtis had already ended the call.

Margot's blood began boiling as she came to the realization that Tammy had tattled on her first.

How dare that woman go whining to Curtis when she was the one who approached Margot?

Margot was frustrated but could only drag herself back to campus.

For the next two days, Margot stayed in school and never sent Curtis a single text. However, Curtis didn't take the initiative to contact her, either.

Friday soon arrived, and it was time for the highly anticipated lecture.

Margot was sitting at her desk dazedly when Quinn began to sweep through her things to look for her phone.

Finally, Quinn found it. She was about to run out when she spotted Margot still sitting there, so she asked, "What's wrong, Margot? Let's go. Prof. Crosby's lecture is about to start."

Margot didn't move. "You and the other two can go ahead. I'm not going."

"What? You're not going? But it's Prof. Crosby! God knows how many schools are dying to listen to his lectures," Quinn replied.

"Besides, he's presenting at a large hall that can fit the entire school this time. Why aren't you coming?"

"I'm not feeling well."

"What's wrong?"

"It's fine. You guys go ahead. I'm not interested in the lecture anyway."

Quinn was puzzled. Normally, a studious student like Margot would never be disinterested in a lecture given by an overachiever. Quinn couldn't understand Margot's bad mood.

Still, since the lecture was about to begin, Quinn didn't try persuading Margot again. "I'll leave you be, then. I'm going to the lecture now."

"Mm-hmm."

Once Quinn was gone, Margot was left alone once more.

To be honest, she wanted to listen to the lecture as well, just like last year.

She could remember how Curtis had stood compellingly on the podium. He had entranced all the students and lecturers at the university, including herself.

At that time, she was still ogling him while fantasizing about confessing to him. Of course, at that time, she couldn't imagine that she would one day become his wife.

Margot thought about all the happy memories she'd made during the time they had been married. She decided that she still didn't want to give up.

Even if he told her that she wasn't going to be Mrs. Crosby, she wasn't going to let go of that position. She was going to take control of her marriage.

Draped over the table, Margot forced herself to go to sleep.

She was roused from her sleep when her noisy roommates returned.

"Oh, my God! Prof. Crosby is so hot! I don't understand how someone can be so perfect."

"I know, right? I snapped so many photos of him. I swear, he's going to be my husband from now on."

"With his good looks, it's such a pity that he isn't working in the entertainment industry."

"It doesn't suit him. The entertainment industry is too dirty. He's doing just fine right now. After all, he's the president of Regal Enterprises and the richest man in the country, yet he still comes occasionally to give us lectures."

Margot's dormmate tutted. "I wonder which woman is worthy of him."

"Don't you think Margot seems to be a good match for him?"

Quinn was surprised. "You're right. They would look good together."

When Margot's roommates saw that Margot was awake, they quickly asked, "Hey, Margot, do you know Prof. Crosby?"

Margot didn't answer.

Violet Simmons replied instead, "That's impossible."

Another roommate showed Margot a photo. "What do you think, Margot? Is he to your taste? Did you know that the applauses in the hall were endless today?"

Margot studied the photo. Curtis wore a black suit and gray shirt.

Perhaps it was because of his background, but he seemed to shine wherever he was.

Margot agreed that he looked good today.

Still, she tried to dodge the topic. "I'm going to the library."

Her roommates ignored her and continued gushing about Curtis.

As soon as Margot walked out, she received a call from Curtis' assistant, Chester Yates.

Without hesitation, she answered the call.

"Ms. Stone, please head over to the parking lot. We're here to bring you home."

We? Did that mean Curtis was here as well?

Margot couldn't help feeling angry when she remembered how he accused her of something she hadn't done, so she shot back. "I'll be staying in school to revise, so I'm not going home this week."

Curtis snatched Chester's phone and coaxed, "Come home with me, Margot."

Hearing his voice immediately broke past her defenses.

Still, she held herself together and grumbled, "I'm not going back."

"Are you forcing me to pick you up at your dorm? Be good," Curtis replied in a soft tone.

Margot was unable to resist Curtis. With a pout, she answered haughtily, "Fine."

She ended the call and went back to her dorm to pack up.

When they saw her come back, her roommates asked, "Weren't you going to the library?"

Margot kept on packing. "My family told me to come home, so I'm leaving now."

Her roommates couldn't resist feeling jealous. "You're so lucky you live nearby. You get to go home anytime you want to."

"You should invite us over when you have the chance."

Margot had finished packing. She gave them a small smile. "Sure, I'll definitely let you guys come over when I get the chance. I'll be off now."

"Okay. Be careful."

Margot left her dorm and made her way to the car park.

Her roommates were all good people, and this was the first time they'd mentioned visiting her house. However, the house she was living in belonged to Curtis, and their marriage was still under wraps.

She couldn't bring them over. After all, she was going to get divorced any time now.
