Chapter 2

Margot knew Curtis had given her a lot, and she shouldn't cling to him.

However, she was pregnant with his child, so she must think for her child as well.

"Are you trying to start a fight, Margot?" Curtis' scowl deepened.

Standing beside the bed, he looked down at Margot but didn't explain why he was marrying the other woman.

Margot didn't want to anger him, but she couldn't help but feel sorry for herself.

Working hard to keep her emotions in check, she replied, "I just want to know if you'll stop talking to that woman if I have a baby with you."

She was giving him a chance.

Curtis pressed his lips together, displeased. Without hesitation, he said, "We will still be getting divorced, just not now. Don't worry. You can have anything you want when we get divorced."

Hearing this, Margot shut her eyes as hot tears rolled down her cheeks.

Her heart throbbing, she threw herself across the bed, unable to stop her cries any longer.

Curtis watched her sob, and his heart began to ache.

He sat down on the bed and reached out to touch her. "Margot …"

Margot flung his hand aside, not wanting his touch.

Curtis knew she needed some time to calm herself down, so he left the room after saying, "You should rest early."

That night was a restless one for Margot.

The next morning, Margot freshened up and went down for breakfast.

She was disappointed to see Curtis missing from his seat opposite hers, so she asked Doris, "Doris, do you know who the woman in Curt's study was?"

Doris shook her head. "No. He was already home by the time I came back from grocery shopping. I had no idea he brought another woman with him until I saw her come downstairs."

When Doris recalled that woman's voluptuous figure and pretty looks, she looked at Margot worriedly.

"This is his first time bringing another woman home. Their relationship …"

Margot didn't reply. She haphazardly ate some breakfast before standing up and grabbing her bag.

"I'm going to school now, and I won't be coming home for the next few days. If he asks about me, just tell him I'm staying on campus to prepare for my exams."

"But isn't today a weekend? Do you still have to go to university?"

"Yeah. Finals are coming up, so I need to revise at school."

"Alright, then. Be careful."

Margot hopped into a taxi and headed straight for her university.

Although sophomores didn't have a busy schedule, she wanted to stay away from home to calm down. That was why she decided to spend the weekend on campus.

Fortunately, one of her other roommates didn't go home for the weekend either and was able to accompany Margot.

Margot spent that weekend either reading or staring into space, moody the entire time.

Quinn Cox leaned over and asked, "Are you okay, Margot? Don't you live nearby? Why aren't you staying at home?"

Margot glanced at Quinn before answering, "I'm busy revising."

"I see. By the way, Professor Crosby is hosting a seminar next week! Oh, my God, I'm finally getting to meet him!"

Quinn gushed, "He could've relied on his looks to become famous in the entertainment industry. Yet, he used his own skills to make a name for himself in the business world.

"He even became the richest man in the country. I never imagined I'd be lucky enough to see a billionaire present at our university for the second time."

Excitedly, Quinn rested her head against Margot's shoulder and peeked at Margot.

"You have to get there earlier to reserve a seat for me, alright? There were so many people last year that I didn't even make it into the lecture hall."

Margot didn't answer. She wasn't even aware that Curtis was coming to her university, yet her friend had found out first.

It reminded her of the fact that he had brought another woman home and was planning on divorcing her.

Margot pressed herself onto the desk, desperately trying to hide her misery.

Realizing something was off, Quinn asked, "What's wrong?"

Margot waved her friend away. "I'm fine. It's just my period."

"Oh, I see."

Humming, Margot grabbed her phone and headed to the garden to get some fresh air.

Just as she reached her dorm lobby, her phone began to ring. She quickly picked up when she saw that Doris was the caller.

Doris said, "Ms. Stone, please come home. Sir is waiting for you."

Margot felt something was odd and asked, "Did he say why?"

"No, but he doesn't look pleased. You should hurry back."

"Alright."

Margot hung up and headed toward the campus gates. She knew there were some things she couldn't run away from.

By the time she reached home, it was already 9:00 pm.

As soon as she entered the house, she spotted the man sitting on the sofa, fully suited.

Curtis had unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt and was resting his elbow on his knee as he unconsciously fidgeted with his phone.

Still, his relaxed posture wasn't enough to hide his elegant quality. From where Margot was standing, Curtis seemed like an enticing treasure.

Her chest tightened, and she slowly made her way toward him.

Curtis sat there proudly as he lifted his head to meet Margot's bloodshot eyes.

He frowned slightly but kept his words to himself.

When Margot stood in front of him, she softly called, "Curt."

She wanted to give their marriage another chance, especially for her unborn child. She didn't want her child to be born without the company of both parents.

Curtis looked at her and hummed calmly in response.

Margot felt a pang of heartache. She didn't want to give in, but she didn't want to give up on their marriage, either.

Not noticing the document on the coffee table, she took the initiative by wriggling into his arms.

She pleaded, "Can we stop fighting now? Can we go back to how things used to be?"

As long as he agreed, she was willing to forget about the woman he brought home and his mention of divorce.

Glancing at the coffee table, Curtis spotted the set of divorce papers and tugged at Margot.

"Margot, get up. I—"

Margot cut him off by pressing her lips against his.

Her body was raised over his with her legs resting atop his. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck as she deepened the kiss.

He'd once told her that he liked her body.

So, if resorting to this method meant she could preserve their marriage and give her unborn baby a complete family, she was willing to do it.
