CHAPTER ONE
AVA
I couldn't help the countless tears that dripped down from my eyes as I sat on the cold hard ground, tears of unbelieve, betrayal and anger, anger that the people I love and cared about could not even stand up for me, people who were supposed to have my back at all cost.
Now I found myself locked up alone with no one to stand by me.
I was cold, hungry and shattered, I had even gotten multiple bites from insects I couldn't even see.
I had no idea for how long I had been here, since the dungeon was always dark and I could not even discern between day and night.
But all of these physical pains I felt right now were no match to what I felt in my heart the hurt I felt I'm my heart was nothing I had ever felt before. My heart churned over and over again whenever I remember the disgusted look on Theodore's face when I tried to explain to him that I was not guilty of what I was being accused of.
Just few days ago we were just okay, everything was going well for me, we were even planning a possible relationship between us, I had confessed to him how I really felt about him, and he had also confessed that he felt the same way for me too. Until that night.
I and Theodore were in the woods, just outside the pack house. Everyone in the pack knew about our romance and were rooting for us to become a thing.
"Looks like even the stars are rooting for us" Theodore said as he held my hands under the moonlight.
"And the moon too" I pointed to the moon. "It's super bright today" I said blushing.
Theodore lifted his hands and tucked some strands of hair behind my ear.
"You are so beautiful" he said, causing the butterflies in my stomach to dance around in ectasy. I looked into his face, he was handsome, I don't think I had ever met any man more handsome than Theodore. I knew I would be the subject of envy of the other girls in the pack because Theodore had chosen me.
I instantly felt like kissing him as I looked at his beautiful face glittering under the moon, and I made to do just that. I leaned gently towards him, I did not mind giving him my first kiss, after all he was my first love.
Holding me by the shoulders, Theodore pulled me even closer to himself till our breathes collided forming a blanket of warm air right in front of us. Intoxicated by his scent, I closed my eyes in anticipation of what could have been the most blissful experience I would ever have. Our lips slightly brushed against each other before I suddenly heard someone call my name from behind. Quickly disengaging from him, feeling a bit disappointed, I turned around to see who it was that had called me. It was Lina, my best friend.
"Hey Lina" I said walking up to her, a bit disappointed that my blissful experience was cut short.
"What are you up to?" She asked with her arms folded, giving me a knowing look.
"Well...." I gave Theodore a look and then turned back to Lina, a blush was obvious on my face.
"Well we do not have time for all of this romance, alpha Lucas wants you".
"Alpha Lucas?" I asked with open eyes.
Why would alpha Lucas send for me? The last time he had sent for me like that was the night I and some other girls in the pack had wandered into the nearby forest to pick rotten fruits, I was severely punished for it because it was all of my idea. Even till this day the experience still felt funny to me. I wondered what I might have done now to warrant this.
I was surprised to see everyone including alpha Lucas standing in my room when I got there, the room I shared with Lina and two other girls. I immediately walked into the middle of everyone
.
"Is that how desperate you are?" Those were alpha Lucas first words the moment he sighted me.
I looked on in surprise, wondering what could be the problem. Clueless, I looked form one person to the other, I particularly looked at Lina, my best friend but she looked away immediately.
"I don't understand" my lips shook as I spoke.
I was about asking another question before I saw what alpha Lucas had in his hand, it was the packs sacred wolf's claws that had been used in training the young ones of the pack into their full potentials. It had always been reserved in a special room and was only used on special occasions, although I had never believed in the powers of that claws, "after all they were just claws right?" I told my friend Lina once while we talked about it.
I was still wondering why alpha Lucas was holding the claws and standing here with most of the pack members, or was it an emergency midnight training? I remembered that he had called for such training sometime in the past. I had always hated training time, I found them boring.
"You don't understand this?" Alpha Lucas asked angrily, waving the claws in front of my face.
I shook my head, having no idea what he wanted me to understand.
"You have become so desperate for power that you have decided to acquire it through dubious means?" He barked. "That you had the audacity to go into the sacred room to steal the claws.
"Steal?" I asked surprised, "I didn't steal the claws". I stammered.
"But it was found under your bed" one of the girls said rudely with her arms folded.
"What?" I heard Theodore's voice from behind.
I turned around to look at him, the look on his face was not the normal looks of admiration he used to look at me earlier, it was a kind of look that broke my heart.
"Do you have any explanation as to why this was found under your bed? Why did you steal it?"
I shook my head, unable to say anything as tears gushed from my eyes.
Despite all of my pleas and explanation, no one believed me, not even Theodore.
"There is no way it would have been found under your bed of you did not steal it, just admit to what you did maybe you can be pardoned" Lina said with her arms folded.
I could not believe what I was hearing from my best friend.
After much begging and pleading, alpha Lucas decided that the best was to find out if I did it or not was to call a witch from the neighboring town.
I agreed whole heartedly to it because I knew I was innocent.
I can't forget the disgust on alpha Luca's voice when he ordered for me to be locked up in the dungeon until the witch arrived.
I wiped the tears from my eyes, at least the witch would arrive soon and my innocence would be proven.
I soon heard the door of the dungeon open from outside, I squinted my eyes as the rays of morning sunlight hit my eyes. The witch had arrived and alpha Lucas had called for me.
The witch was sitting on a mat that was spread on the ground in the open space, she had long black hair with a sprinkle of grey that covered her face.
After mumbling some words to herself, she finally looked up.
I stared at her with utmost anticipation, I could not wait to hear her utter the words that would prove my innocence and restore my honour.
CHAPTER TWOAVAHer lips trembled as she spoke, I was told it was as a result of all the spirits they had to consult. "The person who stole the claw is the same person who has it under her bed" the witch suddenly said. I was shocked by her words, I looked around to be sure that everyone else had had heard the exact same thing I heard from the witch. But my heart was broken into a thousand pieces when I met Theodore's eyes, he was looking at me with a mixture of disgust and disbelief. I took a step closer to him, my lips trembling, my eyes misty. At that moment nothing else mattered to me except him, only if Theodore could tell me he believed me then I would be completely okay. "Theodore trust me, I didn't take the claws, you believe me right? You know I would not do something like that, I don't steal" I said as I walked up to him, trying to stretch my hand to touch him. "But the divination said otherwise Ava" I heard Lina's voice from behind. I turned around quickly to loo
CHAPTER THREEAVAI wiped the tears in my eyes as I slowly walked away from the pack house, into the forest. Although I had no idea where I was going, I had never left the pack house before, I had lived my entire life there and had never had a reason to leave, even I did not even have a single idea who my real parents were, I just found myself here and had lived all my live here and also loved and was loved by everyone here. I turned back to take several looks at the pack house, I might likely not be coming back here again. As I walked further into the forest, unable to believe the betrayal from my friend. I angrily wiped the tears flowing from my eyes with the helm of my cloth, the sadness that once clouded my heart was quickly replaced by anger and deep seated hatred, I could not believe the words I heard from somebody I considered a friend. Her words kept echoing over and over in my ears till I punched a nearby tree angrily. "Good thing she is going to leave, I would finall
CHAPTER FOURI was awoken by the flickers of light that seeped in from the small patches and blinded my eyes forcing me to squint as I opened my eyes slowly. I sat up immediately and looked around the small tent I had made with leaves and sticks I had collected from the forest. I was late for my morning training. It's been a few weeks since I had been in the forest and I had learnt to make the forest my home. I had created a routine for my morning trainings which I never missed, I was determined to train myself to the top and acquire as much power as I could, all the people that had betrayed me would surely pay for everything they had done to me. So far I had made a lot of progress and I was really happy with the progress I had made. I found out I could now do the things I was not able to do while I was in the pack house, I noticed some improvements on my speed, I had also improved in my shape shifting abilities and I could now control my transformation. I had fought a few wild an
CHAPTER FIVE"You have really developed some balls then" a voice said as the figure emerged from the darkness. The voice sounded familiar, I started to rack my brain where I had heard this voice from. "I expected you to also run away like your colleague" he said again as his whole body emerged fully from the darkness. I stared at him wide eyed as I suddenly realized who he was. My heart suddenly started beating uncontrollably at the sight of him. I could not explain the emotion I felt as I stared at him, and he stared back at me with his deep blue eyes. "Are you happy to see me?" He asked with an amused look on his face. I immediately felt ashamed of myself, he might have seen through me and saw all of the shameful desires I harboured about him in my heart, I felt like he could see through me with those magnificent eyes of his, and he might have seen all of the things I had imagined he would do to me with those lips of his, and those beautiful hands. But he can't really blame
CHAPTER SIXLESLEYI slowly opened my eyes a few seconds after the spark, looking around wondering what kind of spark was powerful enough to throw me that far away, and then who was this girl?I stood up from the ground and dusted my body, while feeling embarrassed at myself that I let myself be thrown that hard. I was supposed to be one of the most powerful and most feared alpha around. But then I tried to console myself with the fact that it came unexpectedly.Just as I was about going my way, I thought a little about the strange she wolf, I thought it would be unfair leaving her there alone, and most importantly, I was curious. I needed to know more about her, and why the spark.I remembered her telling me she was homeless, then I considered the possibilities of inviting her to my pack. She was unconscious when I walked up to where she was lying, I found it a bit strange. Especially since I was about accusing her for what happened."Hey!" I whispered hovering over her, but her eyes
CHAPTER SEVENAVAI was terrified with the speed at which that animal ran into us, I had never come across an animal as big as this in my entire life, not even in all my stay at the pack house, not even all the time I had spent in the forest training alone.Even though I had made up my mind from my time in the forest to never let myself get scared of anything, I was still startled by this creature. But still I did not give up. After Alpha Lesley was thrown away by the animal, I made it a point of duty to fight alongside him and get rid of the animal. It was a bit challenging, but I held on. And within the twinkle of an eye alpha Lesley was back on his feet and we both fought the animal hand in hand. I gained a little upper hand, holding onto its horns. I tried to slit its throat by jumping on its back. But little did I know that I was setting myself up for a long run. With just a little flip, I was thrown far away, not only away from the back of that mighty attacker, but far away fro
CHAPTER EIGHT I felt a surge of anger coarse through me as he immediately lifted me into his shoulder without even letting me make a decision on my own, is that how domineering he can be? I scoffed. Of course he is Alpha Lesley, I should even be surprised that he was being nice in the first place. Despite my anger, I still felt a rush of relief knowing I was in safe hands. I knew he was right, I couldn't keep going on my own, my limbs acted like they were would give way at anytime, and him offering his help even though it was unsolicited saved me from crashing down. Aside the feeling of resentment that I had because he would not just let me make my own decisions, I mean staying alone in the forest for that long had taught me how to be independent and not wait on anybody to be my saviour. But I still had a strange feeling of gratitude and I had to admit that I was glad he was there. First he saved me from the forest, then he saved me from the trap and just when my legs were about to
CHAPTER NINESara's POVThe rising sun hung high in the sky casting an orange glow over the Luna pack's territory.I had just come out of my room, and was immediately welcomed by the beautiful sun. I had always loved the rising sunlight, it had a way of bringing back memories, sweet memories.I smiled up at the sky as they soft wind blew my hair.I thought about alpha Lesley. I had heard rumours last night that he returned with a she wolf from where he went to hunt for rogues. At first I had felt apprehensive about it, and then I had dismissed it not until this morning when I heard he had even gone out again with this she wolf and they were yet to return. This made me feel like there was more to all of these. And it brought a pang of pain that gnawed desperately at my heart. And just like it had been perfectly timed. I was about walking over to the Alpha Lesley's chamber to have a look, to be sure if he was really out with another woman when I witnessed the most heartbreaking scene of
CHAPTER TENAVA'S POVMy heart beat increased with every passing second, I wondered what was up with the she wolf and why she was suddenly attacking me.I kept moving backwards as she advanced towards me, until I almost hit the bed if not for my elbows that I used to wedge my body. The murderous looks in her eyes did not evade me as she leaned towards me, her voice sounding like she was ever ready to kill. There was cold silence in the room as we both stared into each other's eyes. Soon, the murderous glare in her eyes disappeared and was replaced by a fake smile."I see Alpha Lesley brought you, I have no choice than to be nice to you."I gasped and let out a deep breath when she pulled away."I actually came here to take a look at your wounds, I was told you were injured. Was she the one Alpha Lesley had sent to look at my wound? Why was she being so aggressive at first? She pulled out the first aid box which she had earlier kept under the bed and opened it, then she knelt in front
