Chapter 2: Taking a stranger home

After what felt like an eternity but was actually about thirty minutes, Alexandra finally got closer to her apartment building. She would have gotten home much earlier if not for the injured man she was supporting with her hand. She felt like her body was about to give out.

From the distance, she noticed the security guard standing at the gate eating something. He had the habit of sneaking out to eat his snacks so that his co-workers wouldn't stop him because he has a junk eating problem. She increased her pace so that she'd get to him before he entered inside. It was way past her curfew and she didn't want to encounter Mrs Smithson, her landlady who had the habit of acting like a security camera.

"Hi, Good evening sir" Alexandra said in an overly sweet voice which made her wince internally. "Please can you open the gate…my friend here is seriously injured" She continued, looking up to her landlady's window but luckily her lights were out. The guard glared at her as he was trying to enjoy his late night snack.

"I'm not going to let you in, it's already past the curfew so just go to the hospital or book a hotel" He said, eating his snacks as he tried to ignore her presence.

"I didn't mean to come back this late but it's not my fault" She said, her voice not hiding the tiredness in them. She glanced at the stranger who leaned on the pillar behind her. All she wanted was to take a warm bath and get under the covers.

The guard raised an eyebrow at her as he stared at her as though she was crazy. " I'm sorry, it's clearly my fault" he said, sarcasm dripping from his tone.

"M…My friend here is seriously injured and we couldn't get a cab" Alexandra stated. "Plus my phone was down"

The guard looked at them from the other side of the gate, still not bothering to open the gate. "It would have been better if you had gone straight to the hospital," He said, taking a bite out of his snack.

Alexandra released a tired sigh. Today was already stressful enough, now this. She was about to say something but the injured stranger stepped forward obstructing her view from the guard. She didn't realize at first but then her eyes widened as she saw him bring a gun from his pocket. She froze as she watched him raise the gun to the frozen guard. "What's he doing with a gun?" She screamed in her head.

She didn't know what a normal man was doing with a gun.

"Of course he's not a normal man" she scolded herself mentally. "I should have known when I saw the gunshot injury"

"Don't fucking let me blow your brain out, I'm not in a pleasant mood right now" The man said in a low voice still pointing the gun at the guard. " Now open the fucking gate"

Without giving it a second thought, the guard hurriedly opened the gate, fear written across his face. His hands shook as he struggled to open the gate. His gaze glanced at Alexandra as his feature was scrunched in confusion. He didn't expect Alexandra to associate with someone with a gun. He's always seen her as a sweet girl.

The guard opened the gate wide enough for the both of them to pass through. The man walked in first with Alexandra following a few steps after him. The guard watched them as they walked closer to the apartment, contemplating calling the police but decided against it. "As long as I'm okay" he muttered in the dark before shutting the gate with a soft click.

Alexandra felt like her heart was going to jump out of her chest. She won't be surprised if he could hear her heartbeat. Her body was hyper aware of the gun that was in his back pocket. The stranger walked ahead of her before waiting for her to get closer.

When she got closer she remembered that he was injured. "Your wound?" He nudged her towards the entrance with a firm hand on the small of her back. She couldn't help but steal quick glances at him,her eyes mostly moving to the huge red patch on his shirt. The sight made her slightly nauseous. She hasn't always been a fan of blood.

"Ummm… my apartment is the one on the end of the hallway" She said, swallowing the thick lump in her throat. "Does your wound still hurt? You don't look like you're in pain"

"It hurts like shit. Like someone took a knife, stabbed it in my gut and fucking twisted it" he snap at her, walking ahead of her towards her apartment. She frowned thinking if it was a good idea bringing a stranger home.

She opened the door and watched as the man walked into her apartment. He scanned her living room before turning to Alexandra. "Do you have a first aid kit and a mirror?"

" Huh… yea, I have one" she said before entering into her bathroom. She grabbed the kit from the bathroom cabinet and grabbed a mirror from the sink before returning to the living room. She handed it to him and watched as he cleaned and covered his wound.

Once he was done, she gave him a blanket. " You can sleep here and leave tomorrow" He collected the blanket from her, his gaze lingering on her face, making her a little bit self conscious. He nodded before saying a low thank you to her.

Once she had locked her door, she went to her bedroom, locking the door behind her to offer a sense of security before lying on her bed. It didn't take long before she drifted into the warm embrace of sleep.

The sunlight shone through the window onto Alexandra's face waking her up. She checked the time and it was only thirty minutes after seven. The sun casted a warm glow in her room. She groaned before rolling out of bed.

"Ahhh,I overslept!" She said out loud before the thought of last night came rushing in. The man from last night, she thought before making her way towards the living room.

When she got there,There was no sign of the man anywhere. "How did he open the door?" She remembered carrying the key to her room. The thought that he had entered her room made her skin crawl. She walked to the door, locking it before leaning her back on it. She noticed something on her table and when she got closer she noticed that it was a huge wad of cash and a note.

Her eyes widened at the sight of such an amount of money. That looked like her salary for three months. She picked up the note reading the words on it. "Get yourself a new phone" The money was enough to sought herself now.

" I didn't even get his name," she said as she grabbed the money before going to her room to hide it.
