My heart skipped a couple of beats and an awkward smile forced its way across my face as I leaned forward, tipping the chair so much that it was almost resting on only its front legs.

“Evelyn, you can't be serious…look, I know you're upset with me right now and you have every right to be about that…but you can't really...you mustn’t…”

I tried to string my words together but failed miserably, nothing I was saying seemed to get through to her.

“Is this because you don't believe what I told you?” I said, lowering my voice, she shook her head and she was once again looking directly at me, “It is precisely because I'm believing you, that is why I'm letting you go.
